The New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has made serious corrupt conduct findings against former premier Gladys Berejiklian and former Liberal MP Daryl Maguire.
Key points:

    The report found Gladys Berejiklian breached the public trust in 2016 and 2017
    ICAC did not recommend criminal charges be pursued against Ms Berejiklian
    Ms Berejiklian resigned as NSW premier two years ago

The report was delivered to parliament just after 9am today, almost two years after Ms Berejiklian resigned from the state's top job.

The ICAC was probing whether Ms Berejiklian's secret relationship with Mr Maguire, the former MP for Wagga Wagga, influenced her conduct in office.

It found Ms Berejiklian breached the public trust in 2016 and 2017 by overseeing the awarding of a grant to the Australian Clay Target Association (ACTA) in Wagga Wagga without disclosing her personal relationship with Mr Maguire.

At the time she was treasurer and the ICAC found her actions created a conflict of interest between her public duty and private interest.

The watchdog also found she was influenced by her relationship with Mr Maguire, or by a desire to maintain or advance the relationship, when she promised funding for a recital hall at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music (RCM) in Wagga Wagga in 2018.

Mr Maguire was an "enthusiastic advocate" for more funding for the ACTA and RCM, according to ICAC, and Ms Berejiklian presided over the Expenditure Review Committee that approved the grants.



The ICAC is not, however, recommending the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)
pursue Ms Berejiklian for any offence.

Poor Gladys broke the most serious and only unforgivable rule for the right, she got caught.

Now Now John - The question for the right isn't if they are corrupt or not just if they got caught or not.

Corrupt politicians should be stripped of their reward for public service...... changes are needed, the first being far away from their massively preferential 'superannuation' scheme that offers millions out of the public purse over a lifetime.

Federal ICAC doesn't start until tomorrow (new financial year). They already have a backlog of investigations lined up. It'll take time before they get to skin their cats

Yeah - but there's core and non-core corruption, you know - and the determining factor is the popularity level of the guilty bastard.

Just turning a blind eye to your boyfriend's thievery while knowing about it full well is not corruption in a state Premier - not by a long shot - it's just business as usual, and business is good!!
