Woolworths supermarket to remove all lollies and chocolates from checkouts

This will make it easier for all us mums who do our shopping in store.

It will also give our husbands the freaking sh1t$ as they will no longer be able to sneak lollies and chocolates into the trolley at the checkout. 😂🤣😆

Oh, well. I suppose the worst that will happen to me is injuring my hand as I punch the end of the conveyor belt, not getting my sugar fix.

Sounds good on the face of it, but I can't help thinking that this is a gimmick deigned to increase profits under the guise of doing the right thing. The plastic bag gimmick comes to mind. Much virtue signalling about the removal of plastic bags from checkouts to save the planet, but the bags are still there, but instead of being free you now have to pay for them.

You of all people should be thankful that you will no longer be tempted to buy lollies and chocolates at the checkout! You might lose a little weight.

I’ve NEVER been into sweets. For me it’s always been
savoury.

So this move by Woolworths will not affect me in any way. My husband is going to have the biggest sook once he sees this new policy in action. I’m not going to say a thing until it actually happens.

Lollies and chocolates are not good for your teeth, your BSL’s and your purse/wallet. As far as I’m concerned they’re utter rubbish.

Edit : Except for cough lollies. I still need those. Especially over Winter 🥺

It will take him 1.2 seconds to work out that there is a full isle of what he wants.

It’s definitely a positive spin in order to gain more traction in the highly competitive area of brand segregation.  Even so, its spillover effects will have a lot of mums like myself singing the Woolworths jingle when it comes to choosing which store’s glass doors we will go through. These bloody lollies and chocolates are behind all sorts of health issues. In children we’re looking at ADHD and obesity and tooth decay. And that’s just for starters 😐😩

The plastic bags are being removed (for good) this month, so I've heard.

Oh look .... another one who’s married and knows how to circumvent THE WIFE system 😐

But you’re probably right. I guess I’ll have to come up with some last minute excuse to rush home.

Even then I bet he’ll buy some chocolates and lollies when he next gets petrol for his car. I (accidentally) discovered his secret squirrel stash yesterday when I was trying to find a tissue (for my sniffles) in the glove box! It was like some blooming treasure chest FULL to the brim with all the brightest colours and flavours you could ever want.

I was left absolutely speechless (and you all know that I’m NEVER speechless).

I was always pondering the meaning of those "Confectionery Free Checkouts" that Woolworths have had for quite a while now.

Does it mean:

(a) You can't pay for confectionery at those checkouts?

(b) The staff member at the checkout isn't allowed to eat confectionery while working there?

(c) You get some free bonus confectionery from the staff member when using their checkout?

or (d) You don't have to pay for any confectionery you've bought when using that checkout?

I asked about that when I was in Woolies one day a while back and all I got was a laugh and a funny look from the staff member.

Can't imagine why?  :-/

;D ;D ;D

The ends of the aisle in question usually is loaded with chocolates and lollies on special. He will probably see that before he sees that the counter section is bare of sweets. But, I think Lisa means that her husband limits the purchase of chocolate to what he can find at the checkout counter.

I had a habit of buying one chocolate block during my fortnightly shopping. I would also purchase a packet of chips, and a bottle of softdrink -- as part of the treats I would give myself. However, after continuously falling asleep in front of the television, simply from having a diluted orange juice after getting home at the end of a work shift, I decided to go low sugar diets.

It kind of hurts, so far.

Um, I think Dna was pointing out the Woolies has an aisle full of chocolates and lollies. Simply not having the checkouts with lollies there will not make much difference. In fact, someone might be willing to buy more from the confectionery aisle.

Maybe this is a strategic move by Woolworths?

The aisle full of chocolates and lollies??? The RUBBISH aisle you mean? Oh he knows it’s an out of bounds area of the supermarket. We bypass that aisle every time. I find he goes strangely quiet when we do that 😂🤣😳

Chips, chocolates and lollies 👈 should be banned IMO. Can you imagine how dreadfully healthy Australians would be after just a few months of NOT eating these items ???

Don’t forget there’s always biscuits and cakes which we can have with tea, coffee and hot cocoa. I’m sure we won’t die 😂🤣😆

Woollies wouldn't be doing it if it hurt profits.
There will be an agenda.
Companies pay for shelf space.
What will be there instead?

the mindset of a lot of the big corporations is this

"we are making obscene profits, so what silly little games can we play with the public , so they focus on the silly little game and dont come after our cash"

things like token gestures to

environment with plastic bags
or mental health with quiet hours
or painting a delivery truck with dot paintings for naidoc week
or moving the lollies to pretend you care about peoples health.

they would rather forums like this or social media discussions focus on the trivia and no one asks questions like

"how come you buy your milk for 19 cents a litre and sell it for 3 dollars a litre."
"ho come you pay your vegetable growers peanuts but sell brocholli for $5 a kg"

they dont want you focusing on anything that affects the bottom line.

but ask them to have a welcome to country ceremony or a day where staff wear the rainbow shirt and they are all in.

We buy lots of these for our kids (refer attachment)

All come with PAPER straws now which don’t work half the time when you try to put them through the little hole 🕳 to get to the juice.

And .... each PAPER straw is carefully wrapped in freaking PLASTIC and stuck onto each pack.

Yes, the rubbish aisle. There is also the soft drink aisle with cheap colas. I would buy 2 or 3 bottles of cola to mix in with my scotch, instead of paying 3 for $9 at the bottle shop for cold drinks. Saves up to $4. If I was craving soft drinks, I might buy a bottle of 600mL cola at the checkout. But, there might be more of a chance of me grabbing a bottle of cola from the soft drink aisle and chilling it with ice once I got home.

Yes, I know what it is like to go without soft drinks, lollies and chips. I am 10 days into a second attempt at sobriety this month. The first time was a 2 week sobriety. Already, I can feel the skin loosening around my body. It is a bit of torture being 20kg overweight and a 5kg drop in weight in a month has meant that I look more like the Michelin Man because of the sagging skin. Sorry, were you eating when you read that?

Not everyone is into self sabotage (Drunk obviously is...but he’s a reclusive incel dumbarse tosspot who’s clinically insane and demented). I can see you’re trying hard to be a better version of yourself and for that you have my respect.

Just remember that you’re not the only person who has gone through a lot of crap in life.

We may never get over things in life but we can still CHOOSE to get ON with life.

Don't mix cola (or anything) with whisky.

One small block of ice, maybe - that's all you need.

Nothing worse than watered down scotch

Indeed.

I only ever use one very tiny ice cube, but that's rare.

Mixing with cola is just soooo wrong.

Yes Ma'am.
I've been on it for nearly 60days.
Started late April.

The results are truly amazing.
We've been lied to.
I'm a pretty fit person and I couldn't work a few things out.
Namely inflammation and joint pain. Inflammation being the #1 target of my change.
Problem now solved.

It sounds wrong in all parts.
I told myself that I would try it though.
I will not go back.
Truely eye opening.

Also....
My wife tells me that my snoring is gone.
I sleep like a log, from waking up every time I turn over.
My mood has chilled.
My hair has gone from a woollen mat, to healthy again.
I sweat nowhere near as much as I did.
Going to the toilet does not require pushing.
I could keep listing benifits...

My wife is in it too Lisa.

No more IBS.
Mood stabilisers thrown in the bin.
Period pain was chronic. It is no more, she didn't even know it was coming.
Her strength is amazing.
She sweats half as much also.
Weight is falling off her, after she couldn't shake it off after our sons birth 7yrs ago. She tried all diets. This is the I ly one that's worked.

We feel amazing, almost like we're 16 again.

This man did it for me.
He's now at 90 days.

Excuse me but Captain Caveman are you spruiking a carnivore diet? 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

I could keep listing benefits ...

😳😳😳😳😳

I don’t believe what I’m reading 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ll have to read up on all this. It seems bizarre.

Really

I thought the carnivore diet was pretty well established and well advertised by now

Not well supported though.

I feel crap without carbs. The best thing I've ever done is switch to OMAD.

I have dinner at about 6, and that's usually 300g of beef or chicken, 300gr of potatoes/sweet potato/pumpkin and as much fruit and veg as I want.

Never felt better

Don't listen to any haters, if there is any.
Anyone who says a bad thing about this, isn't doing it.
I, and many others all share the same stories.

Get into it if you want to be young again.

Can you give an example of what your meals consist of - ingredients and quantities?

Sure thing.

Lots of red meat. Most meals are red meat. Chicken is to lean, although you can still eat it, but avoid the stuffing. I love stuffing so I limit my chicken.
But also cuts of lamb (I'm buying whole lamb 27kg for $100 and slaughtering myself.
Can get mobile butcher in as well, but you need at least 5 sheep to make it affordable. Works out about $270 a head, and I tan the skins for floor rugs.

Pork. Plenty of pork steaks and bacon.
Bacon fat is good for cooking.
Save it in a container.
Block butter is also your new cooking oil.
DO NOT USE SEED OILS.
ANIMAL FAT COOKING OILS ONLY.

Organs as well.
I don't like a lot of organs but liver is so good when rock salted.
So is chicken hearts.

Steak is my staple though.
So I'll have 2 rump steaks, about 350 to 400g each.
2 eggs cooked how you like.
Bacon rashes x 3.
Cheese over the top to melt if you like cheese.
Limit the salt and pepper.

I also do Brazilian style BBQ.
Coat rump steaks in rock salt and skewer onto Brazilian cooking swords.
Cook over open flame. I have a little heat bead BBQ, that I also add some timber for smoke. Can use gum tree, misquite, hickory.
Cook as hot as you can for as short as you can.
Rump cap works best.
Cut into strip's when done. The fat turns to yummy soft tender goodness.
Inside is still med rare and extremely juicy. Because it's salted, it is mouth wateringly delicious.

Then you can get mince. Any mince. 250g.
Cook mince in skillet, then add table spoon sized portions of mince into cup cake trays.
Crack a couple of eggs and beat. No milk.
Add egg in over the top and bake.
There's 12 in a tray.
Good snacks.

Also using mince, crack egg in raw mince.
Mix thoroughly and form rissoles.
Wrap in bacon rashs and skewer with tooth pick.
Minions so to speak

Hard boiled eggs.
Goes without saying.
I love them.
Eat about a dozen a week just as snacks.

You can have cheese but I tend to limit the cheese, and if I do have it, I have the block stuff. Normally vintage or tasty.

Salami.
You can cook it, fry it in bacon fat or just eat raw.
All processed meats are okay but I tend to go for salamis and choritzo sausages.

The thing is, you never get hunger pains. It's weird.
I would have never of gone for this, but I tell you, I will never go back to so called "healthy eating".

The strength you get out of this and the cardio fitness is absolutely mind boggling.
The first week is weird.
Full tap arse. But that's your body detoxing.
After that, the mind is clear and the energy is non stop, but can fall asleep in 5 minutes.
I've never been able to do that.
And the sleep is good heavy sleep.

Happy to answer anything else.

What were you eating before this meat diet, CC?

You may be experiencing some kind of temporary rebound from some kind of deficiency. I think if you persist with this exclusive meat/fat diet for the long haul, you'll start experiencing problems.

I predict increasing cholesterol, cardiovascular problems, and other organ issues. Maybe bowel cancer to boot.

Hopefully, you're not sporting a Peter Evans mullet also. ;D

But good luck anyway.

I don't monitor a thing Gordan.
I eat 2 meals a day, and even then, Im not starving.
I don't eat breakfast anymore.
Just a couple of steaks, eggs and bacon at smoko about 10am, then at tea around 630pm.
Sometimes I don't even eat tea, because I'm not hungry.

Meat and three vege for tea.
Toast for breakfast.
Smoko was normally salad sandwiches in summer and soups in winter.
Snacks during the day. (nuts, dried peas etc)

I'm of your opinion as well.
Something got to go wrong, but every day I feel better.
If I was having side effects, I surely would have crashed by now. Almost 2 months.
And there are people that have done this for over 10yrs with no side effects.

It's the inflammation and joint pains that get me.
Totally gone.
My strength is increasing, and my cardio is out of this world.
I can ride my bike up hills now that I would have died half way up at my peak fitness back in my 20s.

I will report back if I suffer some problems.
I don't like recommending this because it sounds wrong.
But everything I'm experiencing is the complete opposite.

He can't believe my knee pains have gone.
Here I was thinking my life was limited.
I love skateboarding. I couldn't skate.
Well as of last 3 weeks, I'm back in tha half pipe again.

I'd be taking a vitamin C supplement if I was you.

Rodgy.
Can't hurt.
We have those little horrible tasting tablets in the cupboard.
Will knock a few back next week.

Veggies and salad, well, that's a saving grace. Ok, it will be interesting to see how you go over a few years.

I've been full vego back in 2006/7.
Felt great but inflammation was horrendous.

I recommended a book to Greggrypeccary named "diet for a new America".
Awesome reading.
Changed my diet back then overnight, however I still could not shake the inflammation, and I gained weight.
So I went back to what I knew.

I will keep you all posted on my adventure.

I would buy 2 or 3 bottles of cola to mix in with my scotch, ...

No!

Don't mix cola (or anything) with whisky.

One small block of ice, maybe - that's all you need.

What difference does it make? I drink to get drunk and allow my subconscious to explain things to me. It also stops the toaster laughing at me.

This ^^^

Drink filtered water.
Get on the carnivore.
You'll be a different man in 6mths rocky.

I buy bottled water in 24 x 600mL packs. I put that through my filtered jugs in the fridge. I cannot trust the water that comes out of the tap.

The last time I had a low sugar, low fat diet, I lost 35kg over 7 months. Going on the 2 weeks of no alcohol, I lost about 3kg in that 2 week period.

3 months after being sober, I recall that I had that euphoria feeling that I have not felt since high school. 6 months later, I felt like I was never a drinker in the first place.

I think you recommended it to me a few years ago, and I went out and bought it.

Free range chickens have a great life. It must be a real shock for them to have their eggs stolen or to be killed for food. For caged hens, less so.

That's why I only buy eggs from caged chickens.
