In a civilised moment of reflection we'd ask whether one wrong justifies another wrong. No, it doesn't. He shouldn't have been bashed, and yes, you can say this in spite of the heinous nature of Orkopoulous's wrongdoing.

And if you reckon that's wrong, then you might as well flush all justice down the toilet.

Former NSW minister Milton Orkopoulos bashed in prison

Former NSW Labor minister and convicted paedophile Milton Orkopoulos
has been treated for multiple injuries after being bashed in prison.

Key points:

The former MP was treated for head, body and leg injuries
Police are investigating the assault at a correctional facility
Orkopoulos is awaiting sentence for 26 child sex and drug charges

Corrective Services NSW said its officers initiated a medical response about 12:15pm on Tuesday at the Metropolitan Special Programs Centre at Long Bay after an inmate was found with suspected head injuries.

Orkopoulos was then taken to a Sydney hospital and treated for head, body and leg injuries.

Police are investigating the assault.

The ABC understands when police visited Orkopoulos in hospital yesterday he told them he did not know who assaulted him.

The 65-year-old is awaiting sentence after being found guilty by a jury in April of 26 child sex and drugs offences.

Those offences relate to four boys in Lake Macquarie and on the mid north coast between 1993 and 2003.

The former Swansea MP and minister for Aboriginal affairs previously spent 11 years in prison after being found guilty of 30 child sex and drugs charges in 2008.
