Never heard of the guy, but it's a tragedy for him to die so young.

Terrible for his wife and young kids.

It appears to be a suicide:

"He died in Melbourne yesterday. A statement from Victoria Police said officers attended a hotel on Lygon Street for a welfare check, where they located a deceased man at approximately 2am. The police said the death was not being treated as suspicious."

Very sad.

I'm doing something I never usually do at the moment: I'm watching the Channel 10 Five O'Clock News.

They just did an extensive story on this guy, as I assume his TV show was on Channel 10.

I didn't know him by name, but I do recognise his face.

Seemed like a nice guy who had some drug troubles in the past but managed to turn his life around.

Found in a hotel room?   :-/

Phone call from the wife saying she'd had enough and she was taking the kids and moving away?  Who knows?

Incredibly sad though, and now we have dipshit lastnail exploiting his obvious suicide in order to push his dangerous anti-vaxx agenda.

Could one of the Mods please move this thread out of the 'Coronavirus' board?  Thanks.

RIP Mr. Zonfrillo.

Reminds me of the sad Anthony Bourdain story   :'(

The 46-year-old man's death is not being treated as suspicious.'

Zonfrillo is survived by his third wife, Lauren Fried, and his four children: Ava and Sophia, from his first two marriages, and Alfie and Isla, with Fried.

Before his death, in 2021, the chef opened up about his battle with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety and addiction.

RIP 🌹

Yes, it belongs here in 'Food' more than it belongs in 'Coronavirus'.

And no, it doesn't appear to be a heart attack - looks like suicide.

The police were doing a welfare check on him, and "the death was not being treated as suspicious" is code for 'suicide'.

"He died in Melbourne yesterday. A statement from Victoria Police said officers attended a hotel on Lygon Street for a welfare check, where they located a deceased man at approximately 2am. The police said the death was not being treated as suspicious."

Suicide? Oh   :-[  :'(

If that’s so… was he prescribed anti depressants of some sort?
One of my dearest friends, committed suicide after being prescribed a certain anti depressant medication.
There was no way in hell she would’ve left her 2 daughters whom she adored … one of her daughters is a naturopath and spoke to me about the her suspicion of the medication her mum was prescribed.
So I’m not ruling out Jock may have had some prescription that wasn’t right for him.

I really don’t know but I suspect it’s linked to the stress of stardom. By that I mean one must strive to be the best (in order to be singled out and recognised) but is then required to maintain that level because if you don’t you’ll risk losing relevance, industry respect and of course decent paying gigs. You’re constantly under pressure and under fear of being yesterday’s hero.

Great show.
Saw it on another streaming Channel, the one his show is on, think it's prime.
He was a strange dude.
Into a kinda self destruction disorder whenever it looked like he was beginning to be happy in life.
I guess some people are addicted to cluster fkkking their lives. .

When someone dies from a suicide, you do not go about criticising the people who have reprimanded others for claiming that the death of the person had something to do with vaccines.

This topic should be deleted or merged with the one in the food forum.

heart disease and mental health have both surged .

a lot of this can be addressed with good nutrition and an exercise programe

Schuch et al. (2016) conducted a meta-analysis
adjusting for publication bias into the effect
of exercise on depression, finding it to have
a large and significant antidepressant effect
across twenty-five randomised controlled trials
between 2013 and 2015. Larger effects are seen
for moderate to vigorous intensity, however
lower intensity exercise such as yoga has also
been shown to be beneficial depending on the
person exercising (Brinsley et al., 2020).
16 weeks of regular exercise has been found
to be equally as effective as antidepressant
medication in treatment of mild to moderate
depression (Blumenthal et al., 2007). Increasing
exercise over a shorter period has also been
shown effective, with as little as 9 weeks of
regular activity shown to reduce the risk of
depression (Stanton & Reaburn, 2014).
Aerobic exercise such as a brisk walk, cycle,
jog or swim, resistance or strength training (e.g.
weight-lifting) and lower intensity exercise such
as yoga have all been found helpful in managing
symptoms of depression (ESSA, 2018). The best
exercise for you is the one you enjoy, and are
likely to do consistently – going for a brisk walk
with a friend, gardening, walking the dog or an
active yoga class can all be helpful!
Other health benefits of exercise
In addition to being helpful for managing
depression, regular exercise has numerous
physical health benefits. These benefits
include prevention of numerous (including life
threatening) medical conditions such as heart
disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, strokes
and certain types of cancers. (Department of
Health, 2021)

The police were doing a welfare check on him.

They do those when there's a possibility someone will do self-harm.

"He died in Melbourne yesterday. A statement from Victoria Police said officers attended a hotel on Lygon Street for a welfare check, where they located a deceased man at approximately 2am. The police said the death was not being treated as suspicious."

And, they said "the death was not being treated as suspicious" - that's official police code for suicide.

They use that term instead of the word 'suicide' in order to prevent copycat suicides.

It’s just getting sadder by the minute  :-[
Yet it wasn’t cancer he died from … the report says.
I wonder if he was getting treatment for the cancer?
Most likely, who wouldn’t.
The fact he was only 46 with bowel cancer, makes me think about those free bowel cancer kits that get sent out to people aged between 50 and 74 years of age. Once every 2 years I think.
Perhaps with the way things are …. the age for these kits should be lowered to 45 years of age?
And why not?

It appears he committed suicide, because of the cancer.

If you don't catch bowel cancer early it can be a horrible way to go (all cancer is a horrible way to go, of course).

And yes, make sure you use those test kits if you receive one.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia with millions of Australians screening for the disease every year. It affects men and women, and is the second leading cause of cancer death. Free home screening kits are sent to people aged 50-74 all over Australia. Early detection can help prevent bowel cancer in 90% of cases.

Don’t put off the chance to save your life – take the test.

You will be invited to do the test every two years until you turn 74.

On top of existing depression and other mental health issues it has now been revealed that the guy had received a devastating bowel cancer diagnosis.

May he RIP 🌹

Although the results vary, studies from around the world have suggested that a high consumption of meat is linked to an increased risk of colon cancer. In some studies, fresh meat appears culpable; in others, it's processed, cured, or salted meat — but in all cases the worry is confined to red meat, not chicken.

I'm - strictly - chicken, no more than once a week, with fish a few nights, if affordable.

Yes, too much red meat can definitely be harmful.

My father had colon cancer (but we caught it early) and he ate red meat at least once a day, but sometimes more.

Similarly a very good friend of mine died from bowel cancer and he ate red meat at least twice a day all his life.

He died at just 62, and it was very unpleasant.

I gotta admit, I love red meat and could eat it three times a day, but since my friend died I've cut right back.

Colon cancer?

No - as far as food goes, red meat is the worst.

It's not widely promoted though, because it's a  $67.7 billion industry.

Processed meats I avoid (hot dogs, hams, etc)
Fresh meat… I may eat it once every 2 months more as a treat than a necessity.
My younger brother was hamburger fan… mum would constantly mince meats and make him hamburgers. Coz he was the spoilt little one … thank goodness now I’m thinking… I dodged a bullet as I didn’t get meat much, because, he’s 5 years younger and died at 62.
Plus he smoked!
He and I, sadly, had a fallout years ago, when he phoned me from Melbourne out of the blue about mum’s stroke (which she died from 8 days later), I just arrived in Queensland and you know the first thing he said to me? Well that’s the end of my hamburgers!
Yeah now I’m thinking… he died 17 months later… mum was more into eating fresh cooked vegetables…she lived to over 90.
I read ages ago how pork took longer to digest than any other meat.
So I avoid pork almost totally.
Maybe once a year I might have some… maybe.

I’m more into free range chicken, and fish…our local fishmonger is an all Australian sea food seller and although it’s pricey… but gee everyone comments how beautiful my fish meals are.

About those bowel cancer kits… hubby and I recently did ours and was given the all clear.
I’m grateful about that… and whatever we are doing right… we hope to continue.

I’m part of the ABC women’s group survey. It’s in relation to cancer.
I’ve been surveyed a few years now.
The papers to fill out was intense and very detail orientated.
What I found interesting, was how the questions made me see what was good/bad to consume and how often.
My only weakness is sugar… I’m not into chocolate as much as I used to be but it’s so delightful! Darrell Lee is my fave!
Ah dang… for me it will be death by chocolate… not meat  ;D

That's great news.

I've done three of those tests now.

The first one came back positive, so I had to go have the camera stuck up my butt.

They found nothing - not even a single polyp.

The two tests I did in the years following that both came back negative.

If my friend had done those screening tests he would probably still be alive today.

The only reason my father survived colon cancer was because I made him have a test (he had no symptoms at all, but he ate a hell of a lot of red meat).

I now urge all my friends and family members over 50 to make sure they do the tests - it's a promise I made to my friend just before he died.

I think you're misinformed.
There is very little nutrition in most vegetables -
you have to eat a lot of them and a wide variety to stay healthy.
Meat is packed with nutrition - high density -
that's why cats or dogs survive on such a small amount of meat every day.

That's why cows have to eat tons of grass to be healthy -
they spend nearly all their time eating.

Geez I had to log back in when I saw this.
I’m not misinformed … in fact I’ve attended many seminars on health and nutrition.
I eat a little meat at odd intervals (bbq etc)  but plenty seafood and chicken….I also take nutritional supplements because I understand how our soils are depleted of minerals. Hence less vitamin content in our foods from decades ago.
We take in a lot of supplements and have heard that it’s just contributing to expensive urine.
Well if the body takes what it wants and pees out the rest… I’m not fussed.
I’d rather pay a princely sum for supplements than for medication for poor health.
I learnt a lot about cancers and wanted to do everything to avoid it.
So far… so good… we are cancer free and hope we stay that way.
My mum in law died age 57 with cancer. My brother was 62 when he died with cancer.

Cats and dogs eat meat but they can’t eat everything what humans eat…or it will harm their health.
For instance, raisins, chocolate, to mention a couple items…are so bad for dogs.

Your anecdotal evidence doesn't really count but I also have anecdotal evidence.

When my cousin was a teenager he decided he would not eat meat anymore.
He had the same meals as everyone else but no meat.
For dinner they normally had meat, 2 veg and potato and maybe a slice of bread and butter.
Within 6 months he became very ill.
He was as white as a ghost from iron deficiency as one symptom.
He ended up in hospital seriously ill and was diagnosed with malnutrition.

Exactly right Greg.
My daughter, she decided no more eating meat from age 14, I was a bit devastated but she took all that you mention above plus…

She’s 39 now and looks amazing. Beautiful hair, no gray hair at all, beautiful skin, trim and fit.. she is so strong… at gym… she does a handstand and push-up and down while on hands!
At an event last year, ID was required if anyone looked under 18.
She was shocked when asked to produce ID if over 18.
She laughed and said “oh I’m well over 18” and when the person at entry looked at her licence, and her age on it in late 30s, he thought something was wrong with the licence… maybe fake!  ;D

Given she’s eaten no meat in any way and she cooks her own nutritious meals… I would have to say eating meat is not the be all end all of being the picture of health.
She’s doing fine without meat. I’m proud of her commitment to good health and she thanks me for directing her towards nutrition awareness.
What’s anecdotal about having attended health seminars I wonder? And some were at Uni too.

Reading about “Eat right for your blood type” was interesting.
I’m an “O” blood type and meant to eat meat, because we have higher stomach acid yet hubby is “A” and meant to be vegetarian…. he cannot digest meat well and suffers sleepless nights if he eats meat of any sort.

If a family member declares not eating meat… then there’s a responsibility of replacing it with substitutes…. Malnutrition is caused by lack of nutritional knowledge …

human beings have been eating meat, fish, chicken, eggs, fruit , vegetables and nuts since time began.

they have been eating highly processed carbs (based almost solely on ultra processed soy beans, corn and wheat ) since about 1960.

and rates of cancer, obesity , diabetes, dementia, asthma, heart disease have sky rocketed since then.

ultra processed carbs are cheap to make and represent uber profits for kellogs, cadbury, arnotts, nestle, heinz, coca cola, mcains, sara lee and tip top.

if you want a healthy brain and body, then look at a food and if it came off an animal, grew in the ground or fell off a tree or was caught in the ocean, go for it.

if it is in a packet or tin and has a label with its "nutrients" on it, dont go near it.

the big food industry along with big pharma have sold people nothing but lies in regards to food so they could make them sick and then exploit them

if you eat processed carbs..biscuits, cakes, bread, donuts, pizza, cereals, donuts, chips , pringles, lollies, soft drinks.....you are being farmed  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Oh I just remembered something… after watching an ad for K9 health…
Many decades ago I learnt of a testing of minerals etc in foods …
They found there was up to 11-14 vits/minerals in pet food and only 3 in human baby food!

I’m an “O” blood type and meant to eat meat, because we have higher stomach acid yet hubby is “A” and meant to be vegetarian…. he cannot digest meat well and suffers sleepless nights if he eats meat of any sort.

I appreciate you comments on the issue of diets Sophia, but
with due respect, this "blood type" diet is bullshit, there's NO
scientific evidence to support the blood type diet hypothesis
and NO clinical evidence that it improves health.

It was just a craze "invented" to sell books and make dollars
by a US naturopath, Peter D'Adamo in 1996.

D'Adamo has NO medical qualifications, and received his spurious
mail order "degree" from a sham university.

BTW,   Naturopathy, sometimes referred to as “natural medicine,”
is a largely pseudo-scientific approach said to “assist nature”,
“support the body’s own innate capacity to achieve optimal
health”, and “facilitate the body’s inherent healing mechanisms.”

Naturopaths assert that diseases are the body’s effort to purify
itself, and that cures result from increasing the patient’s “vital
force.” [sic]   They claim to stimulate the body’s natural healing
processes by ridding it of waste products and “toxins.”

A close look shows that naturopathy’s philosophy is simplistic and
that its practices are riddled with quackery.

You may get a false positive result if you have a few of the old Grapes of Wrath & they have bled in your sample. ;)

Yeah now I’m thinking… he died 17 months later… mum was more into eating fresh cooked vegetables…she lived to over 90.
I read ages ago how pork took longer to digest than any other meat.

I’m part of the ABC women’s group survey. It’s in relation to cancer.
I’ve been surveyed a few years now.
The papers to fill out was intense and very detail orientated.
What I found interesting, was how the questions made me see what was good/bad to consume and how often.

Lol   ;D

Bobby is comparing humans to cats, dogs, and cows.

Humans do NOT need meat in order to be healthy - that's a myth perpetuated by the $67.7 billion red meat and livestock industry.

NO they don't but humans as omnivores have been eating meat(& raw before fire was harnessed) for $2million years.

So it's not a myth per se - even though the RM&L industry is heavily into protecting its product market.

But... I believe our biggest problem is "processed foods".

I've seen some very unhealthy looking vegetarians & vegans.

Not forgetting either that chimpanzees & baboons(omnivores) also on occasion hunt & kill other animals for meat/protein.

That's because they, cats & dogs are carnivores & we are omnivores.

Hooved animals are all herbivores ...... & all have extensive digestive systems/ & multiple stomach areas that allows them to break down the plant material(cellulose) that they have to eat in large quantities for it to be beneficial.

For us cellulose is practically indigestible.

I think the key words should be having the old "balanced diet". That doesn't mean standing on one leg whilst you're eating a pie. ;D

And with that you don't need to being paying a princely sum/kings ransom for vitamin & mineral supplements that as you said are mainly excreted in your urine of which the only visible sign is it changes the colour of your p!ss.

As my GP said to me more than once - " we live lives of excess not of deficiency, buying supplements is a waste of money".

It's like playing poker machines, you put a lot in for very little return.  ;)
