Pauline Hanson has demanded her party's New South Wales leader publicly apologise over an offensive comment about a gay MP made on Twitter. Mark Latham posted the slur in response to comments made in an newspaper article by independent Alex Greenwich. Mr Greenwich had earlier referred to Mr Latham a 'disgusting person'. He replied with a remark too offensive to broadcast. Pauline Hanson says he's gone too far.

A gay MP who was targeted by NSW One Nation Leader Mark Latham in a homophobic tweet has hit back with a classy response.

Mr Latham wrote the tweets on Thursday in response to comments from openly gay MP Alex Greenwich blasting him for his involvement in an event where LGBTQIA+ protesters were targeted.

“Mark Latham is a disgusting human being and people who are considering voting for One Nation need to realise they are voting for an extremely hateful and dangerous individual who risks causing a great deal of damage to our state,” Mr Greenwich said last week.

In response, Latham wrote “Disgusting? How does that compare with -” before making a crude reference to a sexual act.

Mr Greenwich responded to the uproar on Twitter on Thursday evening, posting a picture of him alongside his husband.

He wrote: “For those wondering how I’m doing after Latham’s homophobic attacks today, I’m fine and I’m more motivated than ever to deliver long overdue LGBTIQA+ reforms… and I have the most handsome husband.”

Mark Latham is thumbing his nose at calls to apologise for a homophobic comment
he posted and later deleted about openly gay Sydney MP Alex Greenwich.



"Disgusting?" Mr Latham wrote before making a graphic and homophobic description of sex acts.

"Sometimes in public life when you throw out insults they come back at you harder and truer … So boo-hoo Alex Greenwich," Mr Latham said in a statement to The Saturday Telegraph.

It comes after Mr Greenwich said Mr Latham's comments briefly brought him to tears.

Mr Latham said he deleted his tweet because he felt it was not acceptable for children to read.

You're right in that sense Buzz. Latham was nothing more than a Political 'Whip' - a stand over guy and that's what lost it for him against Howard the Environmental Terrorist.
I've never really thought much of him.

Sydney MP Alex Greenwich has launched a series of legal salvos at Mark Latham after the NSW One Nation leader targeted him in a graphic homophobic tweet.

Mr Greenwich has flagged potentially "significant" defamation proceedings, sparked an investigation by NSW Police and lodged a complaint of homosexual vilification and sexual harassment with the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW.

Despite widespread condemnation, the controversial One Nation MP has refused to apologise for the tweet he posted on March 30 which Mr Greenwich described as "defamatory and homophobic".

The comments were in response to Mr Greenwich calling Mr Latham a "disgusting human being" after LGBTQIA+ protesters were attacked outside a forum where Mr Latham was speaking.

When pressed for an apology, Mr Latham tweeted "never apologise, never explain".

Mr Latham doubled down on the comments during an appearance on TNT Radio last week.

Mr Greenwich said he did not take the action lightly but it was time someone stood up to Mr Latham, saying "enough is enough".

"He made a very sexualised, targeted attack at me on Twitter, seeking to impugn my reputation amongst colleagues, and he has since said that he believes that that's a view that all straight men believe," Mr Greenwich told reporters on Monday.

"He has continued to make comments around whether it is appropriate for me to talk about my sexuality, whether I am in any way possibly considered to be a threat to children.

"Rather than retracting or apologising, Mr Latham continues to reinforce what I consider to be extremely defamatory, vilifying language, directed at me."

Poor old Mark was once a credible candidate for PM. He went one term too early and paid the price.

He lost the plot somewhere not long after.

It was a disgusting comment appealing to the lowest and most pathetic individuals it was aimed at....Any decent person (not you Bobby) would accept the comment was out of order and disgusting....Letting public debate sink into the gutter is where you belong....Latham will be sued and he deserves it!!!

Alex is Independent elected in gay part of Sydney he is irrelevant.

Earlier this year, Hanson called on Latham to apologise following a tweet
about his parliamentary college, Alex Greenwich.
Greenwich is now suing Latham for defamation.

Latham has faced sustained criticism for the comment about Greenwich and subsequent remarks on the topic.

Last week Latham lodged a defence briefing with the court outlining how he planned to defend the defamation action.

He will argue he was offering an “honest opinion” when he posted the graphic and homophobic tweet.


It came after Greenwich filed a statement of claim in June, in which the Sydney MP argued he had been subjected to “threats, repeated jibes, hatred, homophobic comments and contempt and ridicule” as a result of Latham’s comments.

Latham’s team will argue the initial comment posted on Twitter – the platform now known as X – was an “honest opinion” and related to “a matter of public interest”, being comments Greenwich had previously made about Latham.

In the now-deleted tweet, Latham said “disgusting?”, and made gratuitous comments about a sexual act. Guardian Australia has chosen not to publish the comments in full.

Greenwich’s lawyers have alleged the tweet was defamatory because it implied the politician was “not a fit and proper person to be a member of the NSW parliament” because he “engages in disgusting sexual activities”.
