Another Qantas plane forced into mid-air turnback over ‘fault indicator’

Pilots made the decision to turn back to Sydney Airport after receiving a ‘fault indicator’.


A QantasLink plane has been forced to turn back after pilots reported a potential mechanical issue.

Qantas Link Flight 2104 from Sydney to Coffs Harbour was on Sunday forced to circle in the air before landing back at Sydney Airport.

A spokesperson for the airline said the issue was due to a potential issue with the landing gear.

Nope! Something is definitely suss wrt the repair and maintenance of these planes.

I reckon they've made drastic cutbacks in these 2 areas. Fools! Playing games with people's health and safety is not on!

The official figure is about 60 per year, out of 300,000 flights.

Globally (all airlines combined), there are about 10,000 turn backs a year, out of more than 40 million flights.

Same here aka their ownership of Jetstar… in past… brilliant… yet recent travels… cancelled, delayed, every time (every plane we booked) (I had to use up my unused credit from lockdowns otherwise I would’ve fled from them) and it was painful… with us saying “never again.
Then some may remember my son’s wife was with Qantas in first class (took 8 years of dedication to make the rank) travelling between Melbourne, Dubai, LA and Singapore.
Never heard of any mishaps. Was a good record… one of the safest planes.
Enter lockdown period… after 2 years and her work colleagues… some went back immediately once up and running again… only to end up leaving in frustration and warned my son’s wife… it’s crap… don’t go back…conditions were not the same, new workers employed that had little experience and I forgot what else was said… but the bottom line was… not the same Qantas as it was.
Now I’m hearing all these incidences in such short amount of time.
It’s not normal for how qantas used to be.

Perhaps some qantas flights had an issue from time to time… and as you say… normal … but what is normal about more than usual in a shorter span of time?

That's an average of 5 per month.

I don't see anything that unusual about this month.

Let's see what the final figure is at the end of the year.

Every month, Qantas has about 5 turn backs.

There are about 10,000 turn backs around the world every year.

It's when they don't turn them back that you need to start worrying.

Best one I had was the fourteen hour flight from Wellington NZ to Sydney... lined up early for the milk run.... ooops ... crash on the runway delayed everyone....... nobody hurt but one wheel off the side dug in was a pain... stopped the whole show.... finally onboard and whoa....  away after dark ...... then  ............. "This is the Captain ... we are diverting around a very large storm system covering the entire East Coast of New south Wales, so for safety reasons will be diverting towards Brisbane and hoping the weather will clear sufficiently for us to return to our scheduled landing at Sydney... meanwhile please avail yourselves of the Redeye  on board... and ogle the flight attendants."
