It writes well but creates something like a speculative puff piece, hedging all the way. What impresses people, I think, is that the narrative result reads well.

I asked the question 'how is Price William related to King Charles II' (note: not his father Charles III'). Something easily googled.

It gave me an eloquent paragraph on who Price William was, his father, his mother and her family - the Spencers - adding that he might be related via her family.

It went south from there as it tried to link Prince William to King Charles II, reading 'Prince William is the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- ....

Ad Infinitum before crashing.

The next time (a day later) I asked the same question - same eloquent intro paragraph but speculated on whether Price William was related at all to King Charles II.

The third time it got it right (2 days later) - 'Prince William is a direct descendant of King Charles II through King Charles II's illegitimate son, James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth. He is the great, great, great, great, great, great grandson of King Charles II.'

A google would have got you the last result first search and also another important fact: Prince William is the first Price of Wales to be related to every English and Scottish monarch whose descendants are alive today.

So, don't trust chatgpt just yet, but it's on its way.

Oral exams would be the answer but the huge massification of higher education means you would need an army of academics and lengthy exam periods to examine each student for each subject at a 15 minute oral test. Exclusively written exams and group assignments were intriduced  in order to cope with the volume of students. The fail rate and subsequent dropout rate would skyrocket if oral exams were introduced.

When you determine whether to use who or that, keep these simple guidelines in mind:

WHO is always used to refer to people.

THAT is always used when talking about inanimate objects.

ChatGPT is so ridiculously full of information gaps, susceptible to absorbing misinformation and riven by ideological narratives, it's a wonder anyone considers it worthy of serious use.

I'd bet over time it will become more effective, but currently, it would only be impressive to dyslexics and those who can't write well and are impressed by ChatGPT's 'command' of language - at least if you like 2 paragraphs of erudite hedging and speculating ping-pong - like the cliched two English country gentlemen of the 1930s playing badminton.
