Democrat Katie Hobbs sworn in as Arizona governor

PHOENIX (AP) — Katie Hobbs took the oath of office Monday to become Arizona’s 24th governor and the first Democrat to hold the office since 2009.

Hobbs is the outgoing secretary of state and was previously a state legislator who rose to be the top Democrat in the Senate. As governor, she’ll have to work with a House and Senate narrowly controlled by Republicans. The new Legislature convenes for the first time next week.

Hobbs assumes control of a state with a strong economy and a solid financial position, with a large budget surplus forecast for the next fiscal year.

Also formally taking office Monday are Democrats Adrian Fontes as secretary of state and Kris Mayes as attorney general, both of whom defeated Trump-backed Republicans who refused to concede and unsuccessfully challenged their losses in court.

Kari Lake files appeals in election lawsuit after Hobbs was sworn in as Arizona Governor

PHOENIX - Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has filed two appeals related to her election lawsuit.

One of the appeals is filed with the Appeals Court for her lawsuit claiming fraud, and that technical problems on Election Day were intentional. In December 2022, a judge ruled against Lake, saying there was no evidence of widespread misconduct.

Lake also filed a motion to transfer the appeal to the Arizona Supreme Court, asking to essentially skip a step with the Appeals Court.

It is unclear if the Arizona Supreme Court will take up the appeal.

Meanwhile, election law attorney Tom Ryan says he believes Arizona's high court will toss the lawsuit.

"Election contests are supposed to be done and completed within 10 days of the canvass," said Ryan. "They were given all the opportunity to have a trial. Judge [Peter] Thompson allowed in a lot of evidence most judges would not allow in, but he wanted to do it so he could show he gave due consideration and weighed the evidence."

Yuma, Arizona, is on the brink of collapse, say city officials, citing President Biden's border policies that have resulted in a massive influx of illegal immigration in the area, as reported by Fox News.

A Yuma official told the outlet that a surge of migrants crossing the border have overloaded food banks and hospitals and blamed the president for encouraging the individuals to make the trek: "They're coming because they said that Biden told them to come, that we have an open border," said Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines.

"It will only get worse with Biden's policies," the supervisor said. "He needs to reassess."

Lines described an "unprecedented amount" of migrants coming across the border, unlike anything he has seen over previous presidencies during his tenure of over 30 years.

Local Yuma farmers, speaking to Fox News, said that the foot traffic of migrants making journeys through their fields is damaging crops, which they alleged account for over 90% of the nation's leafy greens.

"Our fields are monitored and audited and tested for different pathogens," a farmer named Alex Muller said. "You can't have people walking through the field," he added.

Yuma, Arizona, has seen unprecedented and massive increases in encounters at its border crossing under President Biden.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in 2020, the land crossing saw just 8,437 encounters. In 2021 under Biden, that number jumped to a whopping 114,043. Then, in 2022, the number increased to 309,569.

Extrapolating on the encounters of the first fiscal quarter of 2023, current trends would result in approximately 320,000 border encounters by the end of the fiscal year.

"The problem that we're foreseeing right now is there's a couple of big waves coming," another farmer and Yuma resident told Fox News. "Yuma can't support that. It will overwhelm the system here," the farmer claimed.

U.S. Border Patrol officials in Arizona said they have started releasing migrant families from their custody into the streets of Yuma because processing centers can't cope with the large numbers of arriving families and minors.

The Border Patrol issued a statement Thursday announcing its decision, which followed the lead of officials in the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas, who last week began releasing families from their custody.

"U.S. Border Patrol processing centers are not designed to house the current numbers of families and small children that we are encountering," the Border Patrol's Yuma sector said in a written statement. "Due to capacity issues at our stations and the ongoing humanitarian crisis nationwide, Border Patrol has begun identifying detainees for potential release in Yuma with a notice to appear for their immigration hearings."

In a news conference on Thursday afternoon, Carl Landrum, the Yuma sector's deputy chief, explained Border Patrol made the decision as a dramatic surge in migrant families and minors overwhelmed their resources and holding spaces.

According to the latest government statistics, in the first five months of the fiscal year, agents in Yuma have apprehended 17,578 migrants traveling as a family. By contrast, in that same time period last year, they encountered 5,319 migrants. That's a 330 percent increase and does not include rising numbers of unaccompanied minors and other single-adult migrants.

The sector is on track to apprehend a total of 60,000 migrants, Landrum said. Those are the highest levels since 2007, when the installation of additional border fencing began to reduce the number of migrants crossing through Yuma.

The US Department of Homeland Security reports that the Mexican cartels’ income from smuggling illegal migrants into America has soared from $500 million in 2018 to $13 billion this year — up 2,500%. If these criminals merged into a corporation, their 2022 gross revenues would rival that of — are you sitting down? — Fox Corporation. Fox News Channel’s parent company earned $12.91 billion in the year ended June 30, 2021, and $13.97 billion 12 months later.

If Democrats still are dozing through the havoc of their no-border strategy, these figures might rouse them:

In Fiscal Year 2020, the last fully under Trump’s control, 69,000 illegal migrants were detected on the “border” but got away into America’s interior. FY 2021 (four months of Trump, eight of Biden) witnessed 389,155 gotaways — up 464%. In FY 2022 (all Biden’s watch), gotaways hit 599,000 — up 54% versus FY 2021 and 768% compared to FY 2020. 

Border Patrol agents apprehended 951,568 illegal immigrants during President Donald Trump’s final 19 months in office. In President Biden’s first 19 months, Border Patrol encountered a staggering 3,588,877 illegals — up a sickening 377%.

Fourteen House Republicans wrote Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sept. 23 to complain that “between October 2021 and July 2022, more than 130,000 Venezuelan nationals were encountered after entering the United States illegally.” The Marxist Nicolás Maduro regime, they added, “is deliberately releasing violent prisoners early, including inmates convicted of ‘murder, rape and extortion,’ and pushing them to join caravans heading to the United States.”

Twelve US senators contacted the US Marshals Service about crooks cascading across the “border.” According to their August 30 letter, “So far in FY22, CBP has apprehended over 9,000 criminal immigrants, including 53 for homicide or manslaughter, 283 for sex crimes and almost 900 for assault, battery and domestic violence.”

During Trump’s FYs 2017 through 2020, 11 terrorists on the watch list were captured at the border — two, six, zero and three, in those respective years.

Under Biden, Border Patrol apprehended 15 in FY 2021 and a terrifying 78 in FY 2022, through August 31; September’s figures will follow. How many terrorists got away? Who knows?

According to data from the UN’s Missing Migrants Project, during Trump’s final 20 months in office, 712 illegal immigrants died on or near the US-Mexico border. For Biden’s first 20 months, that number is 862 — up 21%.

Fentanyl killed some 71,000 Americans in 2021, up 23% versus 2020. For those aged 18 to 45, fentanyl leads COVID-19, car wrecks, suicides and every other cause of death.

The number of migrants encountered attempting to enter the United States illegally from Mexico rose in April, surpassing all previous records over the past century, an indication of the scale of the illegal immigration crisis at the border.

U.S. border officials intercepted 234,088 migrants attempting to enter the country illegally last month, according to a federal court document obtained by the Washington Examiner late Monday. In the first 15 full months of President Joe Biden’s term in office, federal law enforcement officials at the southern border have stopped more than 2.75 million people attempting to cross into the U.S. without permission.

The 234,088 is the highest number on record, outpacing 220,063 at the southern border in March 2000, federal data show.

The number of encounters rose by nearly 70,000 from February’s 165,000 as news spread that the Biden administration would stop immediately returning illegal immigrants to Mexico and other countries in the coming months.

The extent of illegal immigration is not fully known because federal data only track those who were intercepted and cannot account for people who were not detected or evaded arrest. Because Border Patrol agents have been pulled from the border to transport and process those arriving, areas of the border have been left unmanned.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes issued a criminal referral against Kari Lake to Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes asking the AG to investigate Lake for potential violations of state law after Lake posted voter signatures online.

Lake lost Arizona’s gubernatorial race to Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs by over 17,000 votes. She filed a lawsuit protesting the election but it was dismissed.

Judge Peter Thompson said Lake’s legal team did not provide clear evidence of election workers intentionally interrupting the vote as a reason to dismiss the case.

The criminal referral says: “The protections afforded by this subsection prohibit posting any information derived from voter registration forms or precinct registers to the internet, and under no circumstance may a person other than the voter or [a] statutorily authorized person reproduce a voter’s signature.”

Lake lost Arizona’s gubernatorial race to Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs by over 17,000 votes. She filed a lawsuit protesting the election but it was dismissed. Judge Peter Thompson said Lake’s legal team did not provide clear evidence of election workers intentionally interrupting the vote as a reason to dismiss the case. The criminal referral says: “The protections afforded by this subsection prohibit posting any information derived from voter registration forms or precinct registers to the internet, and under no circumstance may a person other than the voter or [a] statutorily authorized person reproduce a voter’s signature.”

It shows that You as a poster have absolutely no integrity.
A well rounded thinking person would have acknowledged that the problem existed before Biden became president.  You cant bring yourself to do that because it would mean that you would have to acknowledge that your god Trump was not the person who you would like him to be and that he had faults.

As for the crap you post about lake being a victim of election fraud, get this through your thick skull.

33,000 republican or republican leaning voters gave their vote to Hobbs, yes 33,000, more than enough to ensure Hobbs won fairly and squarely.

Sure, after Hobbs refused to debate, did not campaign, and had little to no following. No reasonable person would believe that she actually won this race, while Kari Lake is one of the most popular Republican candidates in a generation.

In one clip, you see Joe Wolf, Hobbs’ head political consultant, revealing that the campaign thinks Arizonans are “crazy about their guns.” He also indicates that the campaign is purposely lying to voters by refusing to talk about her position on an “assault weapons” ban. Ironically, later in the video, we see that Hobbs herself is protected by…an AR-15. You can’t make this stuff up. The Veritas journalist asks, “Would Katie [Hobbs] support something like an assault weapons ban?” to which Wolf says, “If she could, yeah. I mean, the problem is that it’s a federal issue, right?” He later says, “This state is crazy about their guns, so we’re not gonna take the beating for it before she can do anything about it.” Wolf was later heard in a car saying Hobbs is protected by an AR-15 between campaign stops. Veritas’ video features Hobbs expressing extreme discomfort when asked by an Uber driver what she does for a living, saying “I was like, ‘Uh, I work for a campaign.’ I don’t know why I said that — I just didn’t want to have this conversation. And he’s like, ‘Oh, Kari Lake?’ And I was like, ‘F**k no!’ I don’t want to talk to you. I don’t want to talk politics to anyone who I don’t know.” Jasper Adams, who is a field organizer, comments on how amateurish and entitled Hobbs’ campaign is. He opens by saying that he and his cohorts have “lots of concerns” before explaining what he means. When asked why, Adams said, “Between us, when we had a big staff training, her Communications Director came in and — she’s only been in the job for a few weeks, she was not prepared, and she was like, ‘What are the questions you’re getting that you want an answer for from the campaign? Like, what are we hearing from voters and volunteers?’ And the number one thing is, ‘Why aren’t you debating Kari Lake?’ And she did not have an answer, and it’s like, you gotta know that’s the question that’s coming.” He later said that “only Democratic voters care. So, they’re not going to lose any votes because Democrats are going to vote for her anyway, which is — which maybe is true. But as a politician, you never want to say, ‘Oh, I’m taking these votes for granted’…I do wonder how much — like whether people actually care about this.” The fact that Hobbs is taking the election for granted, assuming that she can coast to victory on the backs of hardline Democrats, has been obvious for a while. Still, it’s striking to see it admitted like that. Personally, I think it’s a terrible strategy, and the more Hobbs runs from voters, the more she’s going to hemorrhage them.

To repeat, this was published last October, just a few weeks before the election.
