Title: Australia Post - We Deliver (eventually)
Post by Carl D on Dec 5th, 2022 at 11:21pm
Ordered something from Amazon on November 6th.

Was supposed to arrive today (December 5th).

When it didn't turn up I logged in to Amazon to find out what's going on and saw this when I checked the Australia Post Tracking ID.

;D ;D ;D

Hint: I live in Rivervale which is only a couple of km's from Welshpool.

My best guess at this stage is that someone at Australia Post in Welshpool read Riverdale instead of Rivervale on the package.

Or the package was addressed to Riverdale by mistake (but it probably wouldn't even have come to WA if that was the case). However, this would be the first time that's happened with all the things I've ordered from Amazon in the past 4 or 5 years so I'm leaning towards my first guess.

sitting in your safe space

having the world risk the deadly virus to deliver stuff to your door.

i dont think you have the right to complain  ::) ::) ::)

didnt you want health to come before the economy.

or doesnt that apply for the dozens of workers who sacrificed to get you your "stuff" to your "safe space"  ::) ::) ::)

Don't know why Amazon are apologising for the delay?

They weren't the ones responsible for my parcel being sent off to Victoria after it was within a couple of km's of my place on November 26th.

But, perhaps they should be apologising for their Australian 'branch' not updating their computer systems to show the date format we use in Australia (5/12/2022 not 12/5/2022)?

Australia Post's service is many times more reliable than Amazon's.

I have used both (Amazon for US purchases). Amazon usually sources the cheapest carrier usually with the highest number of cockups and the largest number of excuses for them. The usual one is: driver arrived but no one available to receive package. Returned to collection point.

Of course there was someone available. The driver couldn't be c~nted delivering the package.

The collection point is always some obscure warehouse in a semi-industrial part of town and is not used to customers looking for a single package when they go on the hunt for them.

The there's the 'Driver called the number provided but could not contact the receiver of the package'.

No, they didn't call and the number I provided them on the order form was correct.

No, they can't leave it at the local post office, it has to be some gas station or backyard office of a warehouse.

No, I can't contact the driver to ensure he will be arriving, that information is 'private', apparently.

The only thing worse than Amazon's service is purchasing something from China and actually have it arrive in Australia at all.

I give my Aus post parcel guy a bottle of wine every year for Xmas and I never get 'carded' when he delivers.

When it gets bumped to another carrier they usually just dump it at the PO.

I/we give my Aus post lady a nice bottle of white, usually a pinot (wifies department) , and the garbo gets a box of corona.

I/we will never support Amazon.

Hi, Lisa.

Still waiting for my delivery from Amazon via Australia Post.

It's actually an office chair for sitting at my computer desk, I'm using a small, cheap ($8) fold up one from Bunnings while I'm waiting. It's not too bad but it doesn't have casters and doesn't swivel so I can't move around easily while I'm sitting on it.

I would have kept the old office chair for a few weeks longer if I'd known, I threw it out in anticipation of the new one arriving a week or two after I ordered it (which was November 6th).

It's also a bit concerning that it's going to take NASA's first Artemis test flight less time to go to the Moon and back (including 6 days orbiting the Moon) than it's taking for my chair to arrive at my home in Perth from the other side of Australia. It's made 2 trips across Australia already and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up back in Melbourne again by next week.  ::)

Hmm, maybe I should have a look at NASA TV online, I've seen live streams from the inside of the Artemis capsule... maybe my chair went along for the ride?  ;D

(Next time I need a chair I'll just go to somewhere like Officeworks, might cost a bit more but at least I'll have it the same day that I buy it.

OMG you can say that again! It must come via Tiger Moth with the parcel clasped between their teeth!
I ordered these little mini flat plastic travel bottles to fill for lighter travels… for $11 ordered May… comes June, July, still nothing!
The guy says to wait it will arrive!
But August I wrote its nowhere… then he sends another one in its place… I’m thinking oh no here we go again! I was polite the whole time (just a small package $11 so I was willing to give up on it)
So August I get sent it… and I only just received it last week!
I did write I hoped he was honest.
Then it arrived I nearly fell over!
I wrote as courtesy to tell them it arrived!
This was the almost the worst!

The worst for postage is Italy!
20 years ago my daughter left her digi cam behind and cousin posted it to us.
Months go by and nothing.
Then some shipping container full of stuff fell off boat and was beached!
Hubby jokingly says “there’s the camera!”
I not laugh  >:(

I enquired at our local post office… and get told this… the old joke is if you want something sent from Italy to arrive… post it from Switzerland!
And further… get told when Italian postal workers went on strike for 6 months…. Going back to work they looked at all the huge mountain of postage and asked “what are we going to do with all this?”
And burnt it in a bonfire!
Surely not?!
Oh God no… when will this camera arrive?
4 months and it did arrive!
But the anxiety!  ::)

Apart from cheap kitsch, I would not recommend anyone buy anything from China.

In mid 2019 a group of us pooled cash ($1000) and bought 20 items of around $50 each from Chinese online websites.

Almost all of the items were fakes, broken, a completely different product (usually a very cheap trinket) or didn't arrive at all.

We played the game of sending polite emails, and they played the game of 'asking for proof' of fake, broken or wrong product delivery, which we sent.

We received varied similar responses such as telling us they were 'looking into problem', and telling us to 'wait patiently while they check with warehouse'.

Of course, none of the problems was resolved. We sent follow-up emails and were told the likes of 'warehouse manager still looking into problem'.

We ended it there - we'd proved our point.

To this day, I don't believe any of us has received any further response.

And I would be fine with that.

I don't know what's causing the delay with my chair other than the fact that it seems to be on an Australian "tour" at the moment, haven't seen Covid mentioned so far.

But, what annoys me is that we're now being told that Covid is supposed to be over but it's still being used as excuse for delays with deliveries, etc.

Of course the truth is that Covid isn't over and it is still a reason for delays except this time it's not "restrictions" and lockdowns causing them it's workers being sick with Covid all the time.

Oh, and I really only started this thread for a bit of fun.

The problem will probably be with supply. There is a massive world problem with supply lines and delivery due to the follow-on effects of the pandemic disruption.

OMG!! You poor thing!!

What a shame and a disgrace! All that wasted time and fuel involved in ensuring the NON delivery of items to customers who have already paid. 😐

Oh, and I really only started this thread for a bit of fun.

Firstly,  are you sure it's  AP? Amazon has its own delivery drivers?

If it is ap then the most likely reason is that there are a lot of  new 'casuals' working on the sorting lines and they take a bit of getting used to.  Most likely got thrown into the wrong bin by mistake which means it goes on the wrong truck. If you call 131318 they'll be able to follow it up for you

Hi, John.

Yep, it does say delivery by Australia Post. I have a AP tracking ID which I blanked out in the image attached to my first post.

It didn't come today but it's now supposed to be arriving tomorrow or Thursday.

But, as I said... I just started this thread for a bit of fun, I was a bit bored before I turned for the night last night. lol.

Huh! Doing a tour of Oz  ;D
That reminds me… airports are ones for misplacing baggage… my friend’s son has his boogie board go to NT instead of Fiji!
And I dropped an extra mobile phone I was taking overseas with me on a domestic flight to Sydney … then we went to international…. After 3 weeks away I enquired about my phone and found it was in South Australia!
I wanted it returned as it’s about $15 then to send to Melbourne only to get told they don’t do that!
They use Pack n Send instead and would cost me $85 ffs!!!
I had to pay that!

Interesting response. Let me explain why.

That's exactly what I'm being told regarding a type of medication I'm on (for a condition linked to pregnancy plus 3 complicated C- sections).

Get this : Australia (yep ALLL of Australia) has apparently run out of this medication and it's ONLY manufactured in the USA and we're STILL waiting for the next container load to come through imports.

👆 This is the type of BS I've been advised by my GP (and 4 pharmacists). Essentially the new picture of horror that is slowly emerging is this:  some of our medications - those imported from overseas will soon be disappearing from off the pharmacy shelves (just like toilet paper rolls did in supermarkets). So when this medication does appear I (along with a lot of other people) will stock up.

Bottom line? We need to be prepared to jump into the car and chase down what we need. Otherwise we'll miss out on getting it.

So today I went round and left messages with 4 different pharmacies around Sydney to contact me the second that medication comes through.

I'd bet this disruption will take up to 2 years to return to the pre-pandemic state.

I'm on Facebook about this now and people are not surprised (given a lot of our goods are imported). Our pharmaceuticals in particular are imported mainly from the US and Germany.

I reckon we may need to look at grabbing scripts from our GP's with as many repeats possible and start getting our medications stocked up and locked up in our home medicine cabinets.

Meantime interest rates have risen yet again today. Inflation is still soaring towards 10%. Whatever is going on it is definitely GLOBAL and off the back of a GLOBAL pandemic which STILL hasn't been resolved. People are still dying every day in Australia from Covid19. The latest figures are bloody awful IMO especially given the country has been mass vaccinated some 3 times for it. Terrible situation 🥺

It may work with some meds but I’ve found if I try to get a repeat script earlier than required… I get told by chemist they can’t dispense it until it’s due.

So I can’t stockpile on meds.
Good luck if anyone can.

Yep, my elderly aunt has to take 4 different tablets throughout the day every day and I look after her scripts and getting the tablets when needed.

After I get a new box of any of these tablets I cannot get another one for 20 days. So, for example, if I got all 4 of them on the same day I cannot get all 4 of them again for 20 days.

I got new boxes for 2 of them yesterday (5th Dec) so I cannot get any more of those 2 until the 25th. I got boxes of the other 2 a couple of weeks back so I'd be pretty close to being able to get new ones of those (she still has plenty left).

What I plan to do is go to the chemist after the 25th and before Jan 1st and get new boxes for all 4 tablets and the 2 eyedrops she also uses (one of those - Refresh Liquigel - doesn't need a script but she gets it cheaper with a script).

The reason why I want to get all of these just before Jan 1st. is because my aunt hit her "safety net" a couple of months back which means after that all of her tablets and eyedrops are free for the rest of the year and after Jan 1st she needs to pay for them again until she hits next year's "safety net" late in the year.

Yes, this 20-day thing with scripts is absurd.  I fall into the same
difficulty as your aunt, Carl, with 4 prescriptions.  Living in a small
country town though, my chemist is pretty cognisant of the issues
of the 20 days scenario, and quietly bends the rules on the QT.

These rules need to change if only for the elderly and those on fixed incomes (our baby boomer phenomenon can't be ignored). The dreadful cost of fuel is another reason; the bloody situation wrt supply is now yet another.

Dear Lord .... here we are in 2022 and our scripts are sitting in pharmacies waiting for the next container to arrive from the USA or Germany before we can access our medications. That's totally and utterly ridiculous and unacceptable.

* Note to Carl (who started this topic) .... please don't think for a moment that this topic has been derailed because it hasn't. Your plight has highlighted a problem all of Australia is facing right now wrt supply.

Find out ASAP, grab fresh scripts from your GP and lodge them there.

That way your scripts can sit quietly in the queue (and make no mistake because for some medications there is definitely a queue right now).

No worries, Lisa.  8-)

The other thing with scripts now is that GP's cannot fax scripts directly to chemists anymore. I think that was something started by the government during Covid lockdowns?

Came in handy because if my aunt needed new scripts I just had to ring her GP and the scripts would be faxed to the chemist (I gave the GP the chemist's fax number, of course).

Now we have to get the scripts directly from the GP - I don't believe they're even allowed to post them out. Not too sure because we've never asked the GP if she could do it.

Doesn't normally cause a problem though because we've always made sure we've have enough tablets and script repeats until my aunt's next visit to her GP.

1. Telephone appointments still prevail here (in Sydney). Seriously these are the best as no travelling is involved --> it's cheaper fuel wise AND there's no risk of running late.

2. Scripts which result from 1. are sent directly to the pharmacy you nominate OR

3. Scripts may be texted to your own mobile phone. Said script will come up as a QR code. This means YOU are free to turn up at any pharmacy you like and hand over your mobile at the counter for that pharmacist to process.

Note : Nothing beats a face to face consultation though. Even so telephone consults come in handy.

Thanks, Sophia and Lisa.

I'll look into those options if I need urgent scripts.

Oh, my new chair still hasn't arrived.  I was almost prepared to bet this morning that it would have come during the 4 hours we spent at Belmont Forum and I'd find a card in the letterbox asking me to pick it up at the local Post Office but nope.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. lol.

We can still call GPs in NSW and ask for a new script they fax it to Chemist of your choice.

Perhaps you should ask McClown why he doesn't allow it in WA.

If the company you buy something from uses this company make sure to use PayPal or something so you can get a refund when it doesn't arrive.

If you're eligible, you can utilise the government's Electronic Prescriptions service
through the The Australian Digital Health Agency portal.

https://www.digitalhealth.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/electronic-prescriptions

You phone the clinic and make an appointment with your doctor.    He/she
calls you back at a specified date and time, and issues an electronic script.
It can either be sent to your smart phone with a QR code, or emailed directly
to your chemist.

The Australia Post Tracking ID hasn't been updated since December 2nd when the chair was in Victoria as it said in my first post in the thread.

Amazon Australia tells me it will be delivered today (8th December) but seeing as it's now 9:35pm in Perth I think that's highly unlikely.

Maybe tomorrow (assuming it isn't on it's way to Tasmania next)?  ::)

I suspect it's just an automated update when a package hasn't been delivered after a certain period of time. I've seen it before when something has been delayed.

I'm going up to our local Australia Post Office in a few hours and I'll ask them if they have any new updates as to exactly where my chair is.. lol..

Just got back from the Post Office a while ago.

The man there put my tracking number into his computer and guess what? My chair hasn't even left Victoria yet.

His system shows no record of it being at Welshpool not far from me on November 26th. I showed him the printout saying that it had been there and we both shrugged and laughed.

So, after I ordered it from Amazon Australia on November 6th it's only got as far as Sunshine West, Victoria. The floods over east have caused a lot of disruption to road and rail deliveries (and lots of staff off sick with Covid, I'm sure) so that must be the reason for the big delay.

Oh, well... I might have it by Christmas.  8-)

Interesting and/or frustrating delay Carl.

I've never had any issues with Amazon, and usually find
them more reliable than with eBay deliveries.  Sometimes
Amazon send your stuff from their own warehouse, but at
other times its delivered from a third party—which I'm
guessing's caused the stuff-up with your office chair.

Whatever, more than a month late is absurd.  Might be a
safer move to cancel the order and get a refund?

Title: Re: Australia Post - We Deliver (eventually)
Post by Carl D on Dec 10th, 2022 at 10:09am
I think I'll just wait for the chair to arrive. If I cancel the order and get a refund and then go to Officeworks for another chair this one will turn up then I'll have to pay for it and have 2 chairs (which I don't need) or send it back again (which I'll probably have to pay for).

My semi comfy fold up chair will have to do in the meantime.

Edit... lol... I just received a text message on my phone from "Couriers Please" saying that something called "Elite" is supposed to be arriving today and to tap a provided link if I want it to be left in a safe place if no one's home.

I have no idea what "Elite" is (it isn't the name of my chair) so I smell a scam here, especially when Australia Post is supposed to be delivering it and they have their own courier service anyway.

I've just deleted the text and if it does turn out to be genuine it doesn't matter because I'll be home for most of the day.

Seems to be a lot of text scams going around at the moment... I had another Google Messenger one yesterday.  ::)

Good news   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I had two deliveries to my place today, and I got talking to the FedEx guy.

He told me that their trucks are now routinely followed by scumbags who wait for them to drop off parcels at the doorstep.

As soon as they leave, the thieves swoop in and take the parcel.

For that reason, he told me that now all deliveries have to be signed for - no more dropping boxes off at the door.

What about B*nnings? Bought and paid for a ladder and delivery two weekends ago—no sign of a ladder.

Don’t blame them, Christmass deliveries are hectic. I told them deliver it when you can, the walls won’t patch, sand and paint themselves, they will wait.

Mind you, the table from another B*nnings store and a mattress from a bed shop were delivered promptly.

Last week about 8 days later I got an email saying that Aus Post had picked it up with a tracking number. The Tracking is saying delivery on 28 Dec. I would have went for the express option had they told the truth.

Thats not the worst. Another one happening more and more often is to follow the delivery van and wait for the driver to run to the door with a parcel whilst leaving the van engine running ... then the passenger of the car following jumps out and into the van and they take the whole van full of parcels

why steal one at a time when you can save yourself some time. ::)

They got me a good one.

I ordered a xmas present about 3 weeks back. I check the expected delivery and they were saying 3 - 4 days. I thought that a bit aggressive but went ok. Last week about 8 days later I got an email saying that Aus Post had picked it up with a tracking number. The Tracking is saying delivery on 28 Dec. I would have went for the express option had they told the truth.

the stores often lie to get the order. They'll even take your order when the item isn't in stock.

I was reading a tweet from a lady yesterday where she bought her husband a new big screen TV because the old one wasn't working anymore.

They put the old broken TV in the box the new one came in and left it outside their front door overnight... next morning they found that someone had stolen it.

She said that was exactly what they'd been hoping for... saved them a trip to get rid of the new box and the old TV and karma for the thief when they discover they'd stolen a TV that doesn't work.  ;D

Got the new chair assembled today, only needed the one allen key which came with it - the key is on the seat in the attached picture.

Nice and comfy too, might play around with the height and back 'tilt' a bit over the coming days but it feels great so far.

I'll recheck the tightness of the allen bolts over the next few days too because going on past experience with previous chairs they always need retightening after a while.

It's been in our family for decades - pretty darn tough and durable.

Could do with a good shampoo this summer actually.

She got your new one.

Actually, I should have bought one of these instead:

LED Gaming Chair, Computer Chair with RGB LED Lights, Video Game Chair

Would have fitted in better with all the colour changing LED stuff on my desk here.. lol.

It was delivered today. Not too bad in the end.
