There are three types of bacon rasher:
(1) back (from the loin, the leanest and most expensive),
(2) streaky (from the belly, it's the fattiest and often tastiest cut) and
(3) middle (back and streaky bacon in one cut).
However - when just quickly seeing a packet of bacon in the supermarket -
it is easy to be deceived by what you see.
Here is an example of one I bought last week.
At first glance it looks like there's a nice lot of bacon meat in there
but they have offset the rashers which gives a first appearance of
a lot more meat rather than fat:
When getting it home and checking it out each rasher is more fat than meat.
Streaky bacon is more fatty but it's not apparent from first glance.
OK - at first I thought - is this unusual ? - but then when checking some websites
I found they all offset the rashers which gives the appearance of more meat:
