NASA altered the orbit of the asteroid satelite Dimorphos around parent Didymos. I would argue that this achievement has far more important implications than all of Elon Musk's blathering about colonising Mars.

Well, I suppose changing the course of a planet killer asteroid might be handy, but it is only putting off the inevitable end ... Earth will be utterly destroyed when the Sun expires.
It will happen but it won't happen overnight. Mind you, odds are that Humans will become extinct from their own stupidity well before that. ;) |

What, 4 billion years from now? Yes, when the Sun novas, it will expand as far as the orbit of Mars at least. |

Trekkies and Science boffins keep telling us how space exploration has all these wonderful spin-offs for rest of us down here on psychological and physical terra-firma. Then NASA actually does something that might actually be worthwhile, and all you can do is talk about the Sun burning out?
