Title: Crappy Lightweight Fonts on Some Web Sites
Post by AusGeoff on Oct 5th, 2022 at 12:26am
Recently, I've noticed numerous sites using very lightly coloured
fonts instead of true black.  Often this is exacerbated by their use
of lightly coloured background screens.

Yesterday, I came across this disastrous example of an almost illegible,
light weight font on an Aussie property site...

https://www.propertyme.com.au/blog/property-management/real-estate-statistics-for-agents.

Is it just me, or do you guys find this a bastard to read?  Is there some
way to fix this without changing the image parameters on my PC screen?

Or do I just have to suck it up?

Yes - I also find that very annoying.
Why do they do it?

I often select the text - as I would to copy and paste.
The text then turns white with a dark blue background
which makes it easier to read.

Yep, I use that little trick, blocking the text.  But it becomes
a pain in the arse for an entire site with multiple pages.

I can't see any logical reason why sites are doing this.  I might
email a couple of them and ask specifically (like the one above).

Do these site's administrators realise that they're potentially
losing views—and possibly paying customers for their product?

And she agreed with me re the lightweight fonts.

Some companies are doing this with their email also.

When I started this site, I had the background colour way too dark. I had to lighten it several times to make people happy with it. They probably just want to create a unique look and don't realise how hard it is to read.
