I greatly admire her for a life of absolute service ... although i think she was just another victim of the UK's class struggles. One that got to eat regularly and not have the power turned off, mind you.

In the 70s when i was supposed to meet her for a school thing she didnt turn up and i got prince phillip instead. She was missing! they found her in a supermarket trying to meet "ordinary people".

I guess the death of the Queen of another country doesn't really affect
me one way or another.  I suppose it's sad for the English population who
seemed to adore her beyond any reasonable expectations—after all she
was merely an ineffectual figurehead for 70 years.  She never actually did

Why not?  Plenty of other 85-year-olds do so on their overseas holidays
every year, due in part to an increasing life expectancy, plus higher

The second and more widespread reason why some Australians take issue with constitutional monarchy is because it is British. These are the same flag-hating people inclined to assert against the evidence and record that, rather than sporadic and unrelated skirmishes, organised ‘genocide’ was implemented against Aborigines. These people like to claim the British Empire was a bad thing and that the pink coloured territories on the map between 1650 and 1965 stood for tyranny, rather than civilisation, commerce, industry, democracy, science, health breakthroughs, farming, the arts, the rule of law, an independent judiciary and the abolition of slavery.

Indeed, although over 75% of Australians still have Anglo-Celtic ancestry it is apparently the more diverse migrants from the past 35 years that make this country great. The Orwellian ‘diversity is strength’ mantra is what, apparently, makes Australians Australian.  In other words, we are greater and better for renouncing what we had always been until the social engineers stepped in to set things right according to their own metrics.

What makes Australia great is its British heritage. It has shaped our national character, from our now fading irreverence before authority to our non-PC humour, also now all but gone. Then there is our sense of civic duty and our empowerment of the individual. I’m not saying other cultures haven’t contributed to our society, because they obviously have. I’m talking about scale.

Let’s simplify it further: without non-British immigration would Australia still be Australian? Of course it bloody would. But would Australia be Australian without our British heritage? No, it wouldn’t.

The third reason republicans want the removal of the Sovereign and a change in our Constitution is that they simply don’t understand the document itself. As the clamour from the likes of Peter FitzSimons grows louder we will hear the zealots demanding “an Australian Head of State”. Our Governor-General – presently The Honourable General Sir Peter Cosgrove – is our Head of State. The GG appoints the government, grants assent to parliamentary bills, presides in the Queen’s place as supreme commander of the defence forces and has the power to call elections and sack corrupted or ineffectual governments and officials.

It is disappointing (but not unexpected) to see how the mean-spirited crawl out at times like this.

Like it or not, the monarchy is revered by many Australians; no, I'm not one of them.

If there is to be any good taken from the death of the queen it is that a republic is that much closer.

There will always be discontents to any decision.  I've known Canadians who were unhappy with the decision but they were in the minority compared to the majority who are proud of their flag.

The Union Jack also appears on the flag of the US state of Hawaii.

But, you're right. Australia needs to rethink its collective identity signal in our constitution.

I've never had a time in my life when she wasn't the Queen of England - and for the first time in (almost all) our lives we'll be saying "The King" and not "The Queen" when referring to the British Monarch.

I'm not sure just how well he'll "fill her shoes" - but given average male life expectancy - there is a possibility he may be only five years on the throne.

When I look at my ancestry family tree… I noted one great great gm lived to 99 whole another died at 27 after giving birth. Mostly in those days were home births… and not like modern tech hospitals of today, no such thing back then.

I’m wondering now… with up and coming younger generations…. will there ever be such a thing as living past the 80, 90 or 100 year age?
I’m hoping to make it to the 80s at least… I have so many unfinished arty projects  ;D plus I just like observing life and learn as much as I can.

Mine vary - had a few live into their 80's... I'm planning that at least - got too much to do.  GM was 86 and mather was 83 ... some great great or something was 80 odd... the men carked it earlier - escape clause I think, since the women were mostly crazy one way or the other.

Both grampas died at 60....one a WW I Veteran - with a four digit number, and who was a 'Fair Dinkum' who enlisted after Gallipoli despite the death toll - had a spot reserved but his father wouldn't allow it until he turned 21.  Great Uncle Bill  (Wilhelm - Kaiser Bill being German) enlisted on his 21st birthday as well.

We men get it tough at times....

I do intend to … indeed… thinking of two maybe… keep each other company for when I go food shopping etc.
Will also set up a vid cam to keep an eye on them when out.
Truly there is nothing like the love of a dog… I yearn to hug Hutchy one more time (as tears well in my eyes).
Angel the cat was amazing… she was so gentle and yet such a survivor out on the property… she never clawed at furniture… she would climb a tree and and scratch away with her claws.
She lived to 18 years.
I watch dog tic toks to cheer me up and that Dog House show on tv.
I’m waiting till we find our next downsized abode before getting pets. Feeling a bit impatient I am  ;D

My wife has had 20 years of her guidance and support. My three children have got to spend holidays with her and create memories that will last their whole lives.

She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life. I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real.

I thank her for the kindness she showed my family and me. And I thank her on behalf of my generation for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but always relevant to us all.

My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen. I will honour her memory by supporting my father, the King, in every way I can.

I promised him I'd take them back to Europe (and I will), but I'm not travelling during the current COVID/Ukraine invasion period.

It's weird - I know the ashes aren't him, but I still say hello to them in the morning and goodnight to them when I go to bed.

I have absolutely no idea where my father or Lizzie are at the moment, but I'm certain the ashes on my bookshelf and the frail little body in the oak coffin aren't them.

I wondered how long this procession was… felt like days… and I thought how it must be a long way away… to find out it was something like 6 hours instead!

The hampers were the royal scheme to beat Uber and Pizza bikies. The Princess of Wales got filthy rich from 'a children's party supplies company - and it became a multi-million pound hit. The magazine reported that the company is worth an estimated £33 million'.

The next royals are very 'middleton' and common, almost republican. DNA proof will be needed to establish the true Stuart and Georgian (German) genetics.

Plantagenet - look at the features... Diana was a wrong side of blanket descendant of Charles II ...

The Middleton is a Plantagenet .... way back.... they are an inbred lot.... Chuck has nothing to do with Plantagenet .... Saxe/Coburg/Gotha late import ....... Diana was a descendant of the Stuarts - check the features......

Breeding shows, old boy.................... I suspect the two boys, being of a more mixed breed - are a bit smarter than most in their position...... they seem that way.....
