Germany used 500TWh of electricity which equates to 57GW of generation (500TWh/8760).

According to Montel (paywalled) peak usage is 100 GW.

With a 20% allowance make it 120GW to cover eventualities. But Germany has a total of 248GW of generation,

And solar and wind combined, 48GW and 62GW respectively, is almost enough to cover all eventualities but enough to cover current peak usage.

And yet Germany is suffering and reopening coal plants.
