Title: EU to require single charger for all smartphones t
Post by random on Jun 8th, 2022 at 6:41am
It's about faarkin time!

"The EU member states and parliament on Tuesday agreed the text of a law imposing a standard charger for smartphones and tablets sold in the bloc, in a blow to Apple. For most portable devices the requirement for charging via a USB Type-C port will come into effect from late 2024, the European Parliament's press service said. "

I own an adapter that goes between USB-C and Lightning.  Apple could just throw one in the box for $1 I reckon

Linky or it's Stinky.

The EU has just changed it's future.  They are also standardising wireless charging while they are at it.

Yes I agree it is a very big deal and well overdue.

Quote

"Rapporteur Alex Agius Saliba (MT, S&D) said: “With half a billion chargers for portable devices shipped in Europe each year, generating 11,000 to 13,000 tonnes of e-waste, a single charger for mobile phones and other small and medium electronic devices would benefit everyone. It will help the environment, further help the re-use of old electronics, save money, and reduce unnecessary costs and inconvenience for both businesses and consumers."

Its a common sense law and long overdue. I have so many charger  cables in my drawer I've no idea what half of them were for anymore
