If you have a cat, contain it

Long wearing netting which is vet approved can be purchased online.  From memory, the grids are of varying sizes.  It's an investment in wildlife, your cat and your peace of mind

Create a size to suit your circumstances. Get some lumber or a handyman to build a frame.  Then if you're reasonably agile, you can tack or staple the cat net over the frame.  Same builder who constructs the frame will also be able to build  door for the cat enclosure

If you like, you can put a shelter inside the netted enclosure.  Frame up a big kitty litter arrangement which will allow you to clean it out as needed, rather than have your cats defecating all over the enclosure

A tarp attached to the frame will also provide shelter from the weather

The netting will provide air flow

Not only will a netted enclosure protect wildlife, it will also protect your cats from danger in the form of other cats, and dogs

It's a one-off expense and will protect you and your cats from complaints. Put a lock on the cat enclosure door for added safety while you're away from the house

Greenery of all kinds (of cat safe species) can be placed inside or outside the cat enclosure

Netted cat enclosures can be erected in front or rear yards as well as balconies, courtyards, etc.  They are not unsightly and cats enjoy being in them

The vet approved cat netting can take a pounding from the elements.  It's a great investment

ETA:  if the above doesn't suit your circumstances (those who're renting, for example) you can buy chicken coops online in a variety of sizes to suit your circumstances.   They're easily constructed or delivered complete.  Most of them include a 'house' for your cat which is waterproof and can be opened from outside if you want to check drinking water levels, etc.  Cats enjoy being in them and they're fully netted with loads of air circulation, walking space.  Some are so large, humans can enter them to clean, etc.  For what they are, and for the safety of your cat/s and your own peace of mind, they're a steal.  And of course, for those who put their cats outside all night in order not to be awakened themselves, the cat-enclosures and similar chicken coops are ideal. They prevent your cat from prowling, getting into fights, preying on wildlife.  The repurposed chicken coops will fit easily into front and rear yards as well as courtyards. And if space is limited, there are models which can be placed on apartment balconies.  They can be added to, or combined for further length or space on balconies and your cat can watch the neighbourhood with safety

Yep.  More and more councils are insisting cats remain indoors.  The netted enclosures prevent councils from issuing fines and removing of people's pets

We adopted several cats which had been tossed out of the house by their owners in order they could get a cute new kitten.  Poor cats which were thrown out gravitated to our place.  The nighttime cat fights prompted us to seek a solution and we came across the vet approved cat nets.  So we built an enclosure, which kept our cats safe, saved wildlife, etc.  It looked great, we had plenty of vegetation and trees in and outside of it which rendered it almost invisible to passers by.  Life was good

Then, a maniac woman complained to the body corp and continued this for ages.  We have a collection of threats from the body corp containing irrelevant by-laws, all demanding we remove the cat enclosure

So, we bought chicken-coops which were pretty elaborate with lower and upper levels and put those in the rear yard.  Not as pleasant in the rear yard due to weather patterns and less shielding from wind, but the cats adapted.  The cat houses were on decking, so drainage was good.  Cats had old doonas for their bones sake because by then they were pretty old and had suffered a lot by being tossed outside by their 'owners'.  By then we'd adopted another which had been deserted by its owners.  So we lost most of the rear yard to the cat houses, but worth it

People are probably panicking now due to councils' new rules about keeping cats indoors.  The purpose built cat enclosures (if you have the room) or the already complete chicken coops might not have occurred to them, hence this post.  Thanks for your comment of support

(should add, the enclosures and chicken coops would be good for dogs too, when their owners have to be away from the house and/or at night.  Good for rabbits also and for all pets.  Just keep an eye on things if erecting enclosures in the front yard.  Not everyone is an animal lover.  For example, the maniac who complained about our cat enclosure was tossing pieces of poisoned fish at ours and unfortunately, fish, if soft enough, will go through the vet approved cat netting.  The poisoned fish killed one of our cats.  The vet who treated him knew he'd been poisoned when the tests came back.  But she would not get involved and claimed he'd died of kidney disease

Same maniac who did all in her power to get rid of our cats had two trendy pugs.  But then another breed of dog captured her eye and suddenly the pugs were gone and she was parading around with her new, trendier dog

Be nice if we could put a section of society inside enclosures.  Maybe in the future ....
