Younger kids love gold coins. They seem to love $1 and $2 coins because they shine. (If they're really young like about 2 to 3 they will prefer the bigger $1 coin lol).

Older kids love a fresh $50 note inside their Xmas cards. That way they can spend it on whatever they want.

NB Our kids get more money when their birthday comes round (a grand each .... straight into their bank account).

IF your question relates to GRAND children then I'm afraid I have no idea because I don't have any.

If I did I'd probably give them a few scratchies each depending on number of grandkids and how much money I had allocated for them. Kids love to scratch to see if they've won a prize.

Be careful though....some kids hate not winning anything lol.

All my kids are grown, the youngest is 28.

My grandchildren range from 8 to 21.

For most, a gift card is the best gift, they like buying what they want.

The youngest is into fossils
So we got him a couple for Xmas, not cheap, but will be appreciated.

I bought a couple bags of chocolate during my groceries, yesterday. A milkybar assortments bag for $3.50. And some other confectionary for $3. Compared to when I was a child, this is a bargain price.

the exercise is just one part of it. The diet is the other equally important part.

You can't keep eating a whole heap of junk food and think walking with a weighted pack will save you

you remind me of a girl (about 17 or 18yrs of age)  I saw at woolies many years ago ... she was huge, and her and her mum were in the chip aisle. The girl grabbed four packets of crisps, and when her mum told her it was to many, the girl cried out that they were 'diet' crisps and therefore she could eat more of them

FFS people, get real.

The junk food in my grocery shopping the other day consisted of the chocolates, 2 lots of soft drinks, 4.5L of Coca Cola, and about 5L of milk. I had bought bacon and eggs, hash browns, tomatoes and mushrooms, which I thought was unhealthy. But it does not seem too bad for me. The rest of the food is relatively healthy.

The only thing I have not done for a while is go for a walk. Only work has kept me in reasonable shape. And I starved through much of last night. This week's groceries have been the most unhealthy I have bought in a while. And I am not piling on the weight like I did several years ago. It is the exercise. Resistance training.

I think it is just a psychological spark about eating diet crisps. Years ago, a co-worker was at a staff party with me. She said she was going on a diet. I had the bright idea to ask why she was eating chips if she was going on a diet. She told me that they were vegie chips and that they were healthy. Well, a year later, she had lost a lot of weight (perhaps 20 or 30kg) and she seemed dedicated to losing more. Maybe that girl you saw was just motivating herself to start to lose weight.

Bacon & eggs are healthy foods.

You have the option of buying 600mL water for $3. Or a 600mL soft drink for $4.50. These days, I bring my own water to the cinema to watch a movie. Not paying at least $5 for a soft drink.

The price is irrelevant.

If water is $10 a bottle, and Coke is $5, you still buy the water.

It's a no-brainer.

We fitted water filters to our drinking water taps years ago
Biological, particulate and mineral/ metal.

I foolishly cut the filter up one day when I replaced it.
It's been years, but the stain is still on the garage floor.
The stink was abominable.

This is the crap that comes through the tap.

We fill containers when we go anywhere rather than buy or suffer the crap.

The water at my place is quite bad. Even after double filtering the water before consumption, the rust in the water still gets through. I buy 2 x 24 packs of 600mL bottle water. $9 per packet. It is $18 a fortnight that I am happy to spend to keep hydrated. I just cannot stand having to spend more than $1 for a cold bottle of water. $3 for a 600mL bottle of water is just highway robbery. Let the customers have cheap water.

If you have an Aldi near you, they have water for about 50 cents a bottle.

I regularly buy their lightly sparkling spring water.

12 bottles for about $6.

And then you get $1.20 back when you recycle the empties.

So, quite cheap.

Just the other week, I changed my water bottle filters for the first time in 6 months. I also decided to rearrange which order which I double-filtered the water. The main jug was leaking up a storm. Instead of filling up the jugs with tap water, I used the bottled water to fill the jugs. It is pointless when you can just put water bottles into the fridge. But I prefer to have at least a litre of cold water on hand to drink when I get home from a walk.

The Woolies water packs (of 24x600mL bottles) are $9. That is 37.5c per bottle. Mum and Dad come around every weekend before recycle night to collect the 40 bottles that I go through per fortnight.

Yes! Me too!

Oh and I noticed something a few years back ....some of these plastic bottles are made from plastic which smells different and strong now. It's like a chemical smell which comes through into the water. It's sickening (to me anyway).

I think what's happening is this: in order to maintain/increase their profits ... these organisations are now using cheaper plastic containers.

So no more plastic water bottles here.

If you reuse plastic water bottles, the bottles will break down over time. You might get two or three reuses for the water bottles. But the plastic leaches into the water after that.

Better for you and better for the environment if you buy 10l boxes of water. They cost $3.50 at Coles.

Even better, get water delivered. They reuse their bottles.

I have a 3 litre bottle of water in the fridge, filled from my filtered water, all the time.
And you need to put it in PET bottles.

Quote:
PET is approved as safe for contact with foods and beverages by the FDA and health-safety agencies throughout the world. The safety of PET for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and medical applications has been repeatedly demonstrated through extensive studies, regulatory approvals, testing, and its widespread acceptance for more than 30 years. PET does not contain bisphenol-A (BPA) or phthalates (plasticizers).

Because of PET's unique properties, it is rapidly becoming the world's preferred packaging material for foods and beverages. Like glass, it is a very strong and inert material that does not react with foods, is resistant to attack by micro-organisms, and will not biologically degrade. But unlike glass, PET is extremely lightweight, easy and efficient to transport, and shatterproof.

We fitted water filters to our drinking water taps years ago
Biological, particulate and mineral/ metal.

I use glass

Even better.

If you reuse plastic water bottles, the bottles will break down over time. You might get two or three reuses for the water bottles. But the plastic leaches into the water after that.

What about the pollution to our environment all up just in producing these millions of plastic water bottles in the first place?

And here's another question for everyone: how did we cope BEFORE all these plastic bottles appeared? Did we all die of thirst? No! We used reusable cups/glasses.

Mum used to have a big ceramic jug in the fridge full of nice cold water.
If you had some, you had to refill it.

But that was before chlorine and fluoride.

When I started work, all the companies had water coolers or filtered/ cooled water, especially mines.
This was the main reason I had the filters installed, when we moved to the coast the water tasted dreadful.
I was used to clear filtered water at work and the stuff at home was yuk.

Much better with filtered water.

I won't even drink out of a reusable plastic bottle and not really keen on glass water bottle for the fridge because they can easily chip stone benches.

We have loads of stainless steel bottles for going out and a big one for the fridge.  Best thing is u can nuke them in boiling water.

I am old enough to remember when soft drinks and milk came in glass bottles exclusively. When people got sick of glass being smashed on the roads, and plastic bottles were the alternative, soft drink companies switched to plastic bottles.

Historically, I would fill the jug of water out of the kitchen tap. Mum and Dad bought a filter jug that we would boil and filter the tap water before we would put to the water jug. These days, I would refill the water filter jug with bottled water, seeing that the tap water is nowhere near drinkable without having gut pain.

When I first got married, over 40 years ago.
We used to visit the in laws every Xmas.
They had tank water from a concrete tank in the yard.
The water tasted wonderful, no chlorine no fluoride jus rainwater.
It went through a sand filter which was backwashed every couple of weeks.

I used to take a large water container to take home.
But now, my water filters work better....zero taste.

Mum and dad had the soft drink guy turn up every few weeks with a crate full of soft drinks in glass bottles.

I'll never forget the excitement we kids had when his truck pulled up.

He was our Messiah. And we loved him 😂🤣😆

I have this gift card worth $100 which I need to use up.

I'm thinking I should use it to buy something for Christmas for someone.

How would you lot spend $100 on Amazon?

Was he the Taffy's guy? Mum and Dad would get a crate of drinks from him every week or two, as well. We went through the drinks so quickly that Mum decided not to get anymore.

I bought a ten pack of ginger beer for $10. And that has been my treat for the fortnight. Surprisingly, I have felt better about myself since then.
