The old model Jeep was in production for too long and in the end didn't measure up. They say that the current model is ok. They are always costly on maintenance.

Tesla's period of grace is over and owners are starting to complain about the quality.

American manufactured cars, even the luxury models, do not get good reports from owners on reliability and quality.

Teslas  are a con job.

Jeeps get a bad rap because the importer was utter crap and made people jump thru hoops for warranty so any issues are magnified to the extent they close to trashed the brand in Australia.

Apparently they got a please explain from USA and have improved customer service a bit.

Jeeps look great but they don't hold up and even when new the ride sucks:  I ride in a friend's top-of-the-line Jeep Wrangler and I feel like what I imagine a pioneer in a horse-drawn wagon must have felt.

I wouldn't use the description "top-of-the-line" for any Jeep Wrangler. They all look like WW2 salvage.

A friend of mine has several jeeps, at any given time one is off the road for repairs.
Mind, they don't treat their cars very nicely.
They used to own a limo service for years, loved the Chrysler limos, but the hummers were problem prone.
They went to jeeps for a while, but again reliability was a problem.

However, one of my sons in law owns a jeep and has had it for about 3 years.
The only thing that has gone wrong was a flat tyre, and you cant blame the vehicle for that.

I drove Fords, Holdens and Toyotas as company cars for nearly 30 years.
Only the Toyotas performed without needing repairs on a reasonably regular basis.
I was doing over 70 to 100k a year, but I never pushed them or abused them.

Still, Id never buy a jeep, Ford, Holden or Mazda and Id think twice about a Nissan or Mit.

The Grand Cherokee is a different beast altogether.

I was a Jeep mocker until I drove as a passenger in one last year. A cashed up bogan builder I know has a top of the range 6L supercharged V8 as his daily driver/family/boat tower.

He told me it's quicker than his Maserati (he's a very cashed up bogan) and I said get back on the crack pipe ya bogan. I looked it up and yes, that car is insanely fast and it's just gorgeous to drive. And no, I don't and never have owned a Jeep :)

Yep, every Wrangler owner I know secretly is a "lumbersexual" and rides on smooth roads with oversized all-terrain tires on a lifted vehicle. Surprising how many parents buy these vehicles for their teenage daughters.

mazdas are abut the best car on the road.
Toyota still rigth there.
Kias/hyundais very good, longevity might not be so good.
Hondas good.

i'd agree with most of that.
i would probably go a bit easier on mazda.
and i think hyundai are far and away the best of the non japanese brands.

i'd be interested if anyone has experience with the Iveco which is really a truck and sounds pretty solid.
as an off road, round australia 4x4, they look like they might be worth considering

I don't like the stupid dam shut off every time you stop.
If you forget to push that stupid button, the first time you stop you think you have stalled it.

Toyota's are pretty good, but are having serious issues with their diesel 4x4s there is a class action about the DPF problem they have.

I have only had one Honda, it was a DAMN good car, but a storm destroyed it.

There are heaps of Hyundai on the road where I live, people commute to Sydney and Newcastle daily in them, they just keep on keeping on, not sure about the comfort or noise level, but there are certianly plenty out there to testify to longevity.

Mitt, only ever had one as a company car, hated it, hated it, hated it.
Could not get it comfortable no matter what I did.
I adjusted that DAMN seat 1,000,000 times, nothing made it comfortable.
Never broke down, never failed me, but gave me a shocking back ache.

I rented a Mitsu ASX last year for a week, one of the most ghastly (modern) cars I've driven.

Was chatting to a motor journo the other day and he was telling us about the Haval H6 hybrid which will be out next year. It will be $10k cheaper than the RAV with better availability so will sell very well.

He recently tested the H6 Petrol and said he wouldn't recommend it, but if they stick to their current rate of improvement, they'll be making excellent cars in about 5 years.

china sees this as their big strategic move

they have tied up volvo, tesla, GM, ford, bmw, merc and VW are basing their EV's out of there.

china may well just nationalise them and take them over.

china has trillions of dollars to invest.

it has planned cities to experiment with driverless cars.

EV's are pretty foolproof.  more reliable then combustion engines.

i think china will corner the market the way japan did 50 years ago,

and they will make dammed sure their product is up to scratch from the get go.


all the other auto makers are going to struggle.

hyundai will be ok, they control their entire supply chain and south korea is also well set up for EV's


in aussie, i see city commuters in chinese made EV's and country people getting slammed with rocketing fuel prices and companies that have lost interest in petrols and deisels,

have you checked out teslas cybertruck?
