Don't be surprised if other nations in conflict with the USA engage in some acts that increase tensions.

JaSin is still promoting his insane nonsense of a war between Russia and China. Totally improbable at the very least in the current circumstances of both countries being in conflict with the USA.

Only fitting that a Pandemic (via a Political/Military nation) creates a War (to kill more of such people).

God knows where Scomo found that $70 million but right now it's imperative that Ukraine gets help.

I feel so sorry for our grandchildren (I know I am living in hope when I mention human beings yet to be born) who will still be paying off Australia's debts  at the rate we're going 🥺

Title: The $10 gun to win the war?
Post by Bobby. on Mar 4th, 2022 at 9:01am
The West might have to make cheap Sten guns again
as they did in WW2 -
and deliver them to millions of people in Ukraine
just like they did in WW2.

https://laststandonzombieisland.com/tag/sten/

That’s where airdrops of STEN guns and other arms from the Allies came in handy. Taking only about a half dozen man-hours to build,
the STEN cost about $10 to make (about $130 a pop in today’s money–
cheaper than a Hi Point pistol!),
it was cheap enough to literally give away.

This meant they could be made in great volume and some 5 million Stens were cranked out officially during World War Two (as well as an estimated million more in underground shops).

British Special Operations Executive (SOE) units and Jedburgh teams with the U.S. OSS Special Operations (SO) branch fanned out across Europe, making contact with those who could use a delivery or ten of high explosives and STEN guns with the idea of setting Hitler’s Europe on fire.

The French received more deliveries than any other group, making the cheap submachine gun an iconic weapon of the beret-clad insurgent.

Those Sten guns cost $10 to make by England in WW2 - the cheapest gun ever made - they were rubbish.
most of it was stamped out of sheet metal - even the gun sight was cheaply welded on and couldn't be adjusted.
England was just so desperate
even a nail gun at Bunnings is better made.

Modern warfare is coward warfare.
Gone are the good old days when you could use a Bastard Sword and comment on your enemy's sense of fashion eye to eye before you behead him.
These days, warfare is conducted by hiding in an unseen anonymous position of safety as far from your enemy as you can get to kill them. About as tough as pressing a button.

With a Sten gun you'd need to get within 10 metres of your enemy.

Meanwhile Putin talks of a nuclear option:

https://asianatimes.com/analysis-of-putins-nuclear-threat/

Analysis of Putin’s nuclear threat

Saurabh Sarda
March 3, 2022

“Russia’s nuclear arsenal is vast, with 14,000 atomic bombs in storage. Russia has around 2,400 strategic nuclear weapons, the majority of which are linked to the intercontinental ballistic missile force, according to Lanoszka. The majority of these weapons, however, are not instantly useable.

“Russia is thought to have 1,600 tactical nuclear weapons deployed… Most of these tactical nukes would be carried by sea, but many more would be transported by air or even ground.”

Russia is the world’s most immense nuclear power with its nuclear arsenal, closely followed by the United States. Together, they control over 93 per cent of the world’s nuclear weapons. The United States has 3,750 active and non-nuclear warheads, with 150 of them stationed in Europe.

The United Kingdom maintains a sea-based deterrent of roughly 225 nuclear weapons, with about half operationally accessible on four submarines. One-third or so are on active deployment at any given time. According to Lanoszka, France possesses a nuclear stockpile of roughly 300 nuclear weapons.

“MAD is meant to apply – but we didn’t expect Putin to invade a sovereign country and put Russian military in jeopardy with over 4,200 casualties.” Putin is putting soldiers’ lives in jeopardy as if they were players in a chess match. Because nuclear deterrence needs a logical decision, as we learned from the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, these factors make it impossible for it to work correctly,” she said.

“A nuclear assault on a tactical level is doable, but it will lead to a disastrous MAD escalation.”

The Russians did not engage in an American "shock and awe" Iraq-style attack bombing the sh1t out of every living thing and every piece of infrastructure before sending the military in.

If the Russians had conducted a "shock and awe" attack the war would have already devolved down to a guerilla defense campaign in the ruins of Ukrainian
society.

Whatever the outcome of the Ukraine war, Ukraine is finished as a viable independent economic entity and the only future investors in Ukraine will be the Pentagon and the CIA.

Meanwhile, a horde of refugees has been unleashed on Europe which will exemplify the racism of white society which shunned black, Muslim, and Asian refugees but welcomes white Ukrainians with open arms.

Russia, China, India and even Indonesia have the advantage to just grind down the enemy with superior numbers. Eventually, when the climate moves more towards Russian advantage - there will be too many Russians for the Ukrainians to fight (almost guerilla atm). It will be like wave after wave in a game of Space Invaders. No amount of weaponry support will help the Ukrainians against such massive numbers.

Maybe Putin is holding back a bit, thinking wether to send in some Nukes first?
Mind you, 66,000 'mercs' from around the world have rushed in to join Ukrainian forces in the hope of getting nuked like Surface Spray to ants.

Non-Military Taxpayers working their butts off to fund the Political/Military industries to buy very expensive toys and then blow them all up.

Trump was working on playing Russia off against China, until Biden and the Demcrats went back to their 'direct conflict' stupidity strategy as we now see happening.

Putin scowled in jealousy when Xi put on the biggest 'welcome' for any President, for Trump.
Trump knows Poker. He knows how to take a gamble and having the two 'baddies' battle each other would have softened the blow for the whole world.

Trump was using 'Peaceful' negotiation to make them all 'save face', even Kim had to 'save face', because Trump was playing them at their own game.

Now all that is ruined. Stupid f*ucking Democrats - been planning their strategy for so long, they can't imagine 'success', being anyone else's beyond their 'own selfish' tactic.

Trump might be Trump - but of the 'little fellas in power' - he was the slyest of all Foxes and Putin, Kim and Xi knew it.

Someone sane in Moscow has to realise Putin is so insane he’s on a path to unleash nuclear war. Therefore he must be stopped, probably by a group of his generals who understand even nuclear armed hypersonic missiles wont save Russia from being wiped off the face of the earth along with the rest of us.

However, given the human race is insane maybe it’s better for any intelligent life out there in other galaxies if our species doesn’t survive?

The whole scenario with Nukes - the USSR/the USA Cold War was about a 'convergence' in the Northern Hemisphere of kicking out the Yellows and Browns, as a 'master plan' with the threat of the White People, upon discovering that 'Darkies' covered the whole world "We want 1/2 the world or we'll destroy it all instead"
...so the threat of these crazed insane White People wanting 'equality' of half the world, has forced the Darkies to now concede 'Australia' - as Africa 'sells out' the Aborigines like a dumped oldie into an Aged Care Facility.
So what we now see is the turning tide of that threat, now that the Darkies have offered up Australia, after the Whities 'took' Namerica.

It's a complicated thing Ayn.
But hey, I'm a 'day ahead' Aussie, not a 'down under' one. ;)

Since when have we been exporting pharmaceuticals to China?
Some decades ago we handed manufacturing of such products and their base ingredients to China in the interest of ’shareholder benefit’ and drug company executives bonuses. The time it would take to re-establish manufacturing in Australia would see a staggering number of their customers die.
Be very careful what you wish for.

We have a relatively small ($700,000,000 p/a) but consistent export market for pharmaceuticals to China.  https://tradingeconomics.com/australia/exports/china/pharmaceutical-products

With a bit of effort we can stop relying on imports from anywhere, not just China.

The chemical scenario seems quite likely, although even Putin must realise that most people in the West would never buy it. In Russia itself, who knows?

The use of nuclear weapons however would be an escalation that even Putin must see will do his cause far more harm than good. Aside from the immediate impact in Ukraine, the automatic protocols in place for such an attack will almost certainly develop a life of their own resulting in an escalation that would effectively be WWIII.

Any nuclear or chemical attack will tell badly on the Russians.  The winds are primarily from the west so any fall out would fall on Russian soil, hurting the Russians, themselves.  It might kill a few Ukrainians but in the longer term...    ::) ::)

That’s the wrong question. How likely is Putin to unleash nuclear weapons is closer to it. To presume anything like the Russian people as a whole have any say in unleashing nuclear war is as inaccurate at to suggest the American people as a whole are able to make such a decision.

You have a point but basically it is useless.  Russia as a entity is referred to in the singular, as a collective.   In theory, at least, they are a democracy and Putin represents them as a people.  Therefore it is assumed that as a consequence when I say "Russia" I am referring to the country as a whole.   Just as a "America" as a whole refers to them collectively, as a "Australia" refer to Australia as a whole...   ::) ::)

Yes, not a good sign for Putin.

I would advise him to ask for a meeting in the UN with Zelensky, and settle for a commitment by Ukraine not to join NATO (which Zelensky has has already offered, to end the war), plus an autonomous  Crimea.

But I expect that advice would go the way of the advice offered by one of Louis XVI's economic advisors, to increase taxes on the aristocracy....

In the age of MAD, the most dangerous threat to our species is the concept of "legal" war itself.

You of course are opposed to international law which criminalizes war between nations (judging from the fact you have refused to debate the issue so far).

Zelensky wants ScoMo to send him some of our Bushmasters -
Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles -
It looks like we have 1,052 of them -
how many will ScoMo send?

https://www.army.gov.au/our-work/equipment-uniforms/equipment/vehicles/bushmaster

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushmaster_Protected_Mobility_Vehicle

They weigh 12.5 tonnes each -
you couldn't send many except by ship.

Australian Bushmaster -

I reckon ScoMo will send none of them -
we need them for the Chinese invasion - coming soon.

The Bushmaster could have secret radio equipment inside it that
we would not want to end up in Russian hands -
if any vehicle was acquired by them in a battle.
It could even have equipment that is under export control by the Yanks.

It would also require training to use.

What will ScoMo do?

yep ... Putins actions left Sweden with no choice but to pursue the exact thing Putin wanted to prevent . Sweden would have happily stayed out of nato for another 60 years if Putin hadn't started invading his neighbors.

Chomsky on the Ukraine war.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCVN7iV5kVo

"The insane experiment" : NATO  weaponizing Ukraine, "to fight to the last Ukrainian", to weaken Russia. Hence complete disinterest in the US congress to seek a diplomatic solution. Yet Putin WAS provoked, unlike Bush in Iraq.

The experiment: How far can Putin be pushed, what will he tolerate?

Mainstream media and politicians are pro-war. Life is expendable in "survival of the fittest" geopolitics.

[My observation: The 'human psychosis': we must die, in order to live....hence the insane concept of "legal" war].

Things just go from bad to worse for Comrade Putin, however I doubt membership will take effect until after there is some sort of ceasefire in place in this current conflict.  The NATO philosophy is an attack on one is an attack on all, and I don't see NATO ready to engage Russia directly just yet.

Unlike some others here, I have no issue with the PMs travels since taking office. They have all been important meetings (even though I disagree with his 'reconciliation' with the French and his push for an EU free trade agreement) and are certainly in the national interest.

This visit to Kiev has shown that we are firmly in the Ukrainian camp, as we should be.

It is not, at least as far as radiation contamination is concerned.  There has been minor damage to some of the infrastructure  but reactors themselves and storage sites are OK.  This bloke gives an excellent summary. https://www.tiktok.com/@theradguyglows/video/7129614734206324011?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1

I will also add that this statement from the ABC article:
"The plant requires power to run the reactors' vital cooling systems, and a loss of cooling could lead to a nuclear meltdown" is inaccurate alarmist rubbish of the most irresponsible kind.  ::)

Putin is getting desperate. That makes him even more dangerous. He is backing himself into a corner with his not so veiled threat to use nuclear weapons and may be tempted to lash out. The west can't afford to show weakness now, no matter how much more belligerence he shows.
On the positive side there are growing anti-war demonstrations happening in Russia and there is a slim possibility that if Putin does not show restraint then a coup may be on the cards......Interesting times.

Any student of logistics could have told the US that ammunition usage would be in excess of perceived requirements. However it shouldn't be too difficult to increase production accordingly. I see on the news just now that a bridge in The Crimea that is a major supply route for the Russians has been damaged, possibly putting it out of service. https://groundreport.in/crimean-bridge-linking-crimea-to-russia-hit-by-huge-explosion/ Russia may have supply issues of its own.

The problem is that the US no longer has any logisticians worth their salt.  Korea/Vietnam were fought on stockpiles of WWII munitions.  Gulf War I was fought on NATO's stockpiles, Kosovo revealed how pause were the remaining NATO stockpile.  They haven't been building much in the way of munitions for over 70 years.  All their logisticians have grown old and are retired. ::)

The TV news tonight stated that the perpetrator was a Russian soldier who had been recovering from injuries and was due to return to his unit in Ukraine shortly. If this is true and be it a stupid, drunken accident or a deliberate act, it is an indication of the quality of the personnel the Russians are depending on.

There does seem to be a fairly high success rate with the interception of Russian missiles, and this seems all that Vlad has left in his arsenal. Will there be a 'spring offensive' in the best traditions of war in Europe, or will he decide that enough is enough?
