Title: Electric cooking gear for camping Post by Jovial Monk on Oct 16th, 2021 at 7:28pm
Will be camping on my block. Be “Total fire ban” I imagine Dec–Jan.
So what are some good electric cooking gear? (I will have water and power on the block.) Car fridge to keep fresh food good. Electric jug for making tea/coffee Need a pan to boil 3-5l water (preprared meals, pasta etc) Electric wok or frypan—reccomendations? |

Also—any suggestions for dried food I could bring? I won’t be 5 minutes from a supermarket!

Wrong forum! Try your own blog. John Smith should be able to tell you all about bush tucker and how to make fire by rubbing 2 sticks together 😂 |

You can still use a gas BBQ during a total fire ban:
Can I use a gas barbeque? You can use a gas barbeque under the following conditions: It is under the direct control of a responsible adult, who is present at all times while it is operating; No combustible material is allowed within two metres at any time it is operating; You have an immediate and continuous supply of water; and The barbeque is within 20 metres of a permanent private dwelling such as a home; or The barbeque is within a designated picnic area and the appliance is approved by Council, National Parks or State Forest. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fdr-and-tobans/total-fire-ban-rules Your only issue may be the 'designated picnic area' thing if it's your own property. |

Yup, no house there yet either. And Tasmanian rules would apply, not NSW ones. But I will have power and running water. Good Guys are having a sale, will have a look there today. |

The trusty old Sunbeam electric frying pan(or similar) has a large capacity with temperature control and lid, they will cook anything from steak sausages bacon eggs mushrooms and tomatoes or banana fritters for breakfast to 4 pan fried toasted sandwiches at once for lunch to stirfry stews caserones chips anything for dinner, there are probably some deserts that can be cooked in them as well.
mmm time for breaky. ![]() |

get yourself a portable electric induction cooktop. With the improvements in solar, a lot of campers are swapping their gas cookers to induction because they don't need to carry around a bottle of gas or worry about refilling
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/electronics-marketplace-lenoxx-2000w-electric-dual-induction-cooker-portable-twin-hotplate-cooktop-stove-ic800/ just make sure your pots and pans work on induction BEFORE you get there. ::) |

That is what I decided. One induction plate, one electric frypan, one jug to boil water for tea and coffee.
Lots of dried foods: Rice and pasta Dried peas, beans, lentils Sundried tomato, tomato paste (concentrated if not exactly dry) Flour, polenta, semolina, cornflour Packet soups—not ideal but if there is a good brand a quick meal Jerky Full cream powdered evaporated milk Any other possible dried foods? Foods easy to reconstitute and turn into a reasonably tasty meal? |

Yeah, an electric frypan is useful for a lot of different meals. Induction plate for more concentrated heat. I like pancetta but have not found a shop selling that but bacon will do. Will try to find an (American) biscuit recipe that does not have that overpowering baking powder taste (same with scones) this would allow me to make quick fresh bread. Maybe bicarb + buttermilk? |

You are allowed comfort fires most of the time, in Tassie that would be about 364 days of the year.
