I treated myself to a set of these, and they arrived on Saturday. Amazing sound and comfort. I know they are expensive at $599 but I will use them a fair bit . Amazing pieces of technology!

Yes, they’re supurb IF you give them gutsy enough amplification. by that I don’t mean big watts but decent damping to control the bottom end. However, if you think B&W P17’s expensive you haven’t looked at the wider market. My speakers cost would buy a decent new car. But hey, hi-fidelity ( anyone in the sound-bar age know what that means?) is my real extravagence apart from roses. Has been ever since in my early teens I inherited my uncles system which even today, if you can find the components 2nd hand, will cost big bucks. What though do you mean by ‘comfort’? Do you sit on them? Could be an interesting experience if you turn the volume up and have a tight bottom end . :o :D |

What are you talking about, they're in-ear buds, they don't need an amp and comfort refers to how they feel in your ear. |

Google took me to a small, two way standmount speaker when I typed in P17’s.Just tried again and it took me to the 702 speaker. Go figure. Obviously I need to be more careful when searching via Google. Sorry for the confusion. |

And ill bet the people who rave about these earphones have them plugged into they Iphones.
The music on most phones are so corrupted and compressed that they have barely a fraction of the purity of the original recording. When I want to listen to good music, I use Bose headphones (the big bulky ones) plugged into a high end Sony stereo system using original recordings or records (yes the old big black round things). Some quality radio stations put out hi fidelity music as well. The ear buds that came with my Android phone are good enough for just listening to stuff off the phone. And I have a pair of Plantronics blue tooth headphones for better sound. I try to keep as much as possible to the original and having a 128 gig phone with a 256 gig card helps a bit, but really chews up the space. But nothing compares to the Bose headphones and a good quality stereo system. I used to have a brilliant set of speakers once too, the crossover itself was worth $500.00. two 18 inch woofers and 5 inch tweeters with nice 10 inch mid really gave it some oomph. The amp was a 400 watt and the sound could be felt as well as heard. No, I didn't have to blast out the sound, even at a very comfortable volume the sound was crystal clear. But they got damaged over the years, kids, moving etc, they were eventually relegated to the tip. The speakers that came with the Sony unit are OK sort of. But when you have had the best, second isn't as good. That's why I use the Bose headphones, you can hear a pin drop in a recording |

No, I read the thread title but may have accidentally typed it into Google incorectly.Either way I made an idiot of myself. The actual P 17 ear buds by B & W get excellent reviews but I'll stick with ordinary earphones as no matter how good earbuds are I find the sensation of music taking place inside my head disconcerting. My Sennhieser earphones give me at least the idea the music is taking place in front of me. |

Most of the reviews I read for them are say they're good, but the same quality can be had for much less.

Mabye so but a few brand and model names would be appreciated by many. A friend swares by his Etymotic MK5’. Didn’t accept his offer to try them as I don’t like the idea of sharing earwax. |

Some audio magazines can’t be trusted, as with one of Australia’s biggest selling publications who demonstrate a startling and suspicious relationship between positive reviews and companies taking out lots of advertising in their rag. Whathifi, (UK) Stereophile (US) Hi-Fi News (UK) and Absolute Sound (US) are amongst those who can be trusted BUT even Absolute Sound can turn obscure and pretentious when reviewers are let off the leash. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.whathifi.com/au/best-buys/headphones/best-budget-headphones |
