‘Blah blah blah’: Greta Thunberg mocks world leaders in scathing speech
An exasperated Greta Thunberg has hurled world leaders’ words against them in a withering take-down of their failure to tackle climate change.

Youth environmental activists have called out decades of “empty words and promises” from world leaders as they demanded action – and money – to tackle global warming ahead of a pivotal UN climate summit.

With just weeks to go before the COP26 meeting in Glasgow, seen as crucial to the viability of the Paris climate agreement, campaigners used the opening of a three-day event in Milan on Tuesday to lambaste governments’ failure to address the crisis.

Swedish Greta Thunberg slammed governments for “shamelessly congratulating themselves” for insufficient pledges to cut emissions and promises of financing.

Hurling leaders’ own words back at them, the 18-year-old laid bare to delegates at the Youth4Climate event the gap between words and action.

“There is no Planet B, there is no planet blah, blah, blah,” Ms Thunberg said to warm applause.

Echoing a speech by COP26 summit host Boris Johnson in April, she continued: “This is not about some expensive politically correct dream of bunny hugging, or build back better, blah blah blah, green economy, blah blah blah, net zero by 2050, blah blah blah, climate neutral blah blah blah.

“This is all we hear from our so-called leaders: words, words that sound great but so far have led to no action, our hopes and dreams drowned in their empty words and promises.”

Some 400 youth activists from nearly 200 countries gathered in Milan will submit a joint declaration to a ministerial meeting at the end of the week, as a lead-in to COP26 in November in Glasgow.

“Our leaders’ intentional lack of action is a betrayal of all present and future generations,” Ms Thunberg said.



She said governments had been “shamelessly congratulating themselves while still failing to come up with the long overdue funding” for developing nations.

Ugandan youth activist Vanessa Nakate echoed Ms Thunberg’s exasperation at leaders’ lack of urgency.

“How long must children sleep hungry because their farms have been washed away, because their crops have been dried up because of the extreme weather conditions?” she asked attendees.

“How long are we to watch them die of thirst and gasp for air in the floods? World leaders watch this happen and allow this to continue.”

COP26 is vital for the effective implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement, which saw countries commit to limit global temperature rises to “well below” 2 degrees Celsius.

The landmark deal aims for a safer warming cap of 1.5C.

But six years after the accord was struck, countries still haven’t agreed how it will work in practice.

Among long-overdue issues still outstanding for COP26 is how each country’s carbon cuts will be counted, as well as how the fight against climate change is financed.

Nations already suffering from extreme floods, droughts and storms supercharged by rising seas have called on developed countries at COP26 to make good on a decade-old promise to provide $100 billion ($A138 billion) each year to help them recover and adapt.

Some 400 young adults will meet in Milan before addressing and debating with ministers attending the UN climate change conference COP26 in Glasgow in November.

COP26 President Alok Sharma told delegates on Tuesday the summit was a chance for “developed countries to make good on their promise of money to support developing countries dealing with rising impact of climate change”.

A couple of years ago, I said that in the last 30 years, I have not seen any significant changes in climate. The number of cyclones and rainfall varied from year to year. It was just as hot and cold during the summers and winters respectively. Our hottest recorded day had barely been approached in the last number of years.

Only last night did I turn off the hot water system to save on power. But that was the first of October that I was able to do so. I have about a week's worth of hot water to use for my showers. Yet, it was only 2 weeks ago I was seeing minimum temperatures into the single digits. I live in Rockhampton.

Many years ago, even back in my university days, I could have a cold shower in late August. Mind you, that was for those 30 degree plus August days. But, I did not see many of those days in recent years.

I would say that the average days are getting cooler on average. So, the only argument for climate change is that we are not seeing the extremes that we did when I was a child.

Having a textbook in my possession on the topic of climate change, I have read the reasoning behind the concerns of climate change. The change in salt composition of the ocean; The erosion of beaches; the churning of undersea currents changing sea level currents; the effect of aerosols and petrochemicals on the composition of how the atmosphere changes.

All of these things that I do not dispute as factors in climate change. But a warming planet? I do not think that is the case. A changing climatic environment? Yes. But not necessarily warmer.

Grown men are not out with placards in the streets, holding up traffic (ironically causing more CO2 to be emitted into the atmosphere than otherwise would have happened). Grown men are not out with mobile phones replaced with "better" model of phone and dumping the old one without any concern for the pollution. Not out needing to be chauffeured 2km down the street to school because it is too far for them to ride their bike.

She is true though.
Politicians haven't a clue about Climate, Environment etc.
They're more interested in Politics, Military and Religion to name a few.

They don't care about Gardening or about Gardeners who need money from Politicians because they aren't self sufficient.

Papua New Guinea should be charging the United Nations of Politics an Air Conditioning Fee for providing the world with Fresh Air.

Maybe plenty, heaps or more than enough ?

What is different about weather patterns 30 years ago that is not common today? The same variance of cyclonic activity. Heatwaves are as severe and common today as they were in the 1990s.

I have no doubt that the world today is a very different place compared to 1991. But we are not in an environmental catastrophe. Just an overpopulated one with a hysterical media trying to sell bullshit.

Net zero is a disastrous solution to a nonexistent problem

Human folly is all too common. But in a long life I have never come across anything remotely as bad as the current climate scare. The government’s COP26 targets are ambitious (and eye-wateringly expensive). Amid the debate, one important question seems to be missing. Are we really facing an existential threat? Or might the climate change ‘crisis’ in fact be quasi-religious hysteria, based on ignorance?

It is true that, since the industrial revolution, when we began to use fossil fuels — first coal, then oil and gas — as our source of energy, this has led to a steady, albeit gradual, increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The know-nothings (notably but by no means exclusively the BBC) customarily refer to this as pollution. In reality, it is the very reverse: so far from carbon dioxide being pollution, it is the stuff of life. It is the food of plants, and without plants there would be little animal life and no human life.

The principal effect of increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is to stimulate plant growth, known as the fertilisation effect. Careful studies have shown that the planet is indeed becoming greener thanks to increased CO2. And yet we’re told that we need to prevent any further increase in CO2 in order to become ‘green’.

A secondary effect of increased CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere is to warm the planet slightly. This is no bad thing: many more people die each year from cold-related illnesses than from heat-related ones. And the warming is very slight indeed. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an offshoot of the United Nations, the Earth is warming at a rate of at most one-sixth of a degree per decade, a barely perceptible amount.

And of course we don’t experience the mean global temperature anyway: we experience the temperature in our own neck of the woods, which varies enormously. Humankind is nothing if not adaptable. For example, the difference between the mean annual temperature in Finland, a cold place, and that in Singapore, a warm place, is some 22 degrees. And both these countries are pretty successful.

The climate hysteria is by no means a harmless folly. The reason the world uses fossil fuels is that they are far and away the cheapest source of large-scale reliable energy. Nuclear power is reliable, but not cheap. Renewables — wind and sun — are not particularly cheap and certainly not reliable (the wind doesn’t always blow, nor does the sun always shine).

The economic cost of abandoning fossil fuels — what is nowadays known as net zero — is massive: even the Treasury admits that it will cost the UK tens of billions of pounds a year. That is why China, by some distance the world’s largest emitter of CO2, while paying lip service to the net-zero target, continues to build new coal-fired power stations hand over fist (and not just in China: it is also building them throughout much of the developing world).

Decarbonisation, in short, would be an unparalleled economic calamity. So how is it that the UK and most of the western world have signed up to it? The answer can only be conjectural. I suggested at the start that the current climate scare is a quasi-religious hysteria. Mankind seems to have a psychological need for a belief system. Traditionally in the West, this has been Christianity; but with the waning place of Christianity in the modern world, climate catastrophism has emerged to take its place.

And needless to say, it is particularly convenient for our political leaders, who will be gone before the full extent of the economic damage caused by the measures they advocate becomes apparent. Meanwhile, whatever errors they may commit in this non-deferential age, they can pass themselves off as saviours of the planet.

But whatever the cause of the climate change madness, the effect is clear. While global warming is not a problem, the policies intended to prevent it are a disaster.

As we have previously documented, the climate change agenda is merely radical leftism dressed up in a more palatable format.

The co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, the offshoot of which, Just Stop Oil, is currently engaged in blocking roads across London, admitted in his own words that his movement “isn’t about the climate.”

In 2019, Stuart Basden revealed the true goals of the far-left environmentalist action group in a lengthy article posted on Medium.

Basden asserted that whatever climate problems exist can’t be fixed and that the movement should instead be focused on tearing down the entire system of western capitalism (China, the world’s biggest polluter, isn’t mentioned once).

He claimed that “European civilisation” is to blame for spreading “cruelty” and “violence” throughout the globe for the last 600 years and bringing “torture, genocide, carnage and suffering to the ends of the earth.”

Basden then cited numerous “delusions” which are to blame for this situation, including “white supremacy,” “patriarchy” and “class hierarchy” (a strange one given that most Extinction Rebellion protesters are upper middle class snobs who do little but inconvenience and harm the working class).

“The delusions of hetero-sexism/heteronormativity propagate the idea that heterosexuality is ‘normal’ and that other expressions of sexuality are deviant,” writes Basden.

So there you have it, it isn’t about the climate, it’s about bringing down the west and replacing everything it stands for with a nightmare far-left form of identity politics-mad totalitarianism.
