Toyota are ceasing the V8s and using V6s soon.

For each cylinder, there are two intake and two exhaust valves (sodium-cooled).       .............

...........  Each cylinder head has its own high-pressure fuel pump driven by an additional lobe on each exhaust camshaft. Depending on engine needs, those pumps provide fuel pressure in the range of 2.4-20 MPa inside the forged steel high-pressure fuel rails used for the direct injectors        .................

.........   Each turbocharger sends compressed air through its own air-to-water intercooler integrated inside a polymer intake air surge tank mounted on top of the engine. Intercoolers and turbochargers use a separate cooling system with an additional radiator and electric pump.             .......

Efficiency is very good.
I'm not too keen on turbos, esp petrol turbos.
I like the laser sprayed valve seats, they have done it for a while now.
Sodium cooled exhaust valves??
High pressure fuel pump - I would prefer not, but that is how they get 37% efficiency.
Turbos are intercooled with separate radiator and pump .

I have worked with turbocharged heavy duty mining equipment for the last 30 years.
These machines are punished, really punished, by the operators for 24 hours a day in environments that even the most hardy 4x4 enthusiast woukd shy away from.

They do break down, very occasionally, but on the whole are remarkably resilient.

Properly set up, adjusted and maintained, turbo are just as reliable as any engine.
With the advantage of being smaller for the same output.

thanks, yes, turbo diesels run all prime movers and buses
