I use Youtube for a lot of different reasons. Unfortunately, I am seeing a trend were different interest groups are using the "toob" for propaganda and advertising. The problem is that these groups are presenting their spiel as if it were news and they are getting good at subliminal messaging. If it is presented as news, analysis or a breakthrough, it is probably bias, self-interest, or thinly disguised advertising. They don't cite their sources, so I am not going to either.

I watch youtube videos of psychologist Dr Grande. He is pretty good at his job. But I doubt that he is very good at what I consider making a comprehensive case of psychoanalysis of people. Don't get me wrong, he is a good guy. But he comes off a bit narcissistic and drones on about his analysis with his banal use of a psychological template.
There are YouTubers who critique movies and television shows. I do like the Critical Drinker. He is one guy from Scotland who likes to pretend (sometimes not) to be drunk whilst delivering his critique of entertainment. Then there are those WatchMojo videos where the voice overs just drone on about shhtuff that really have no bearing on whether something is good or not. Just time wasting commentary of minor issues in stories. The only non-time wasters on youtube are those Ted Talks or some actual university lectures. Most of the time you are not going to be bothered watching groups give their opinion on things. So, you might as well surf over to other websites. Try Top Documentaries. |

Title: Re: Youtube Post by Yadda on Jun 21st, 2021 at 7:46pm I mostly go to YT for 'how to' information on doing mechanical things. When i find i have something i want to do [and i don't have a clue], on YT i can often find someone, somewhere, that has figured out a simple way to do it. Phew !!! |

Television and youtube had gotten so vacuous in content, that I had to turn to read novels again. Having read some textbooks on certain subjects that I had been watching online, I managed to reassess the way people present their entertainment or claims of expertise. In fact, you develop an insight into how you look at things when you critique others. It does get fascinating.

I think Youtube is one of the best resources ever invented.
I now don't bother with TV broadcasts anymore except the news, Netflix and Youtube are my goto for entertainment and youtube is great for learning things I wish I learned when younger on any topic I pick or stumble across. The main problem with youtube is that it's AI algorithm can present biased content. For example if I watch a pro-trump show, it presented more and more of them. If you are stupid you will think that is real news. Same for antivax nonsense. |

Actually, sitting in front of the television to watch a show or movie has become a bit of a luxury for me. I sit in this ridiculous chair that has no real comfort for me, to use my computer. But, I can come home from work and have a meal and a coffee ready reheated in 10 minutes. Then I can sit down in front of the television in a comfortable chair and channel surf for a few minutes until I decide what is best to watch. With all these channels to choose from, the inevitability that I will find a station with something worthy to view is very likely. And even when there is actually nothing worthwhile to entertain me, ABC24 is a good enough station to watch what was going on around the world.

Found this podcast 'Like Stories of Old'... Some Dutch guy who philosophically analyzes movies and movie themes...
