Read a good phrase.
'If you don't take some time for your own wellness, you WILL be forced take some for your sickness.' Only that one won't be as much fun. Have seen this in practise too. Many years ago I was walking home from work, struck up a conversation with another walker. he said he was walking as his doctor told him he had to. He said it is not as much fun walking when you have to do it. The best healthcare you can get is what you do for yourself. |

I know the feeling.
For the last 6 weeks we have been caring for a relative who is disabled. Its a full time job, knowing no real rest, last night she was up wandering the house at 0200 hours for some reason. It took me an hour to get her settled again. She cannot be left alone, she falls and will hurt herself. The stress is omnipresent, I have had a headache for weeks, my wife is under so much stress that she herself is becoming sick. Yesterday we had a few hours to herself as another family member had the day off and came to give us a break. For the first time in weeks my headache was gone and my wife actually smiled. This cannot go on, Id hate to think of the stress that full time carers feel...all the time. It must be an enormous burden, one I will seek to find a way to ease once this is over. I may be able to help some local carers to get a little time off. I guess ours is an unusual case. The woman has dementia, which makes her unreasonable, and she has always been very independent. But she forgets to turn things off and goes to walk down stairs, which she cannot do (there is a travelator chair, but she forgets to use it) The door to the stairs must be constantly locked, the stove turned off at the powerboard, even the kettle and toaster must be hidden. Yes, we all need a little self time. And Ill be getting mine next week......I hope. |

Well said sprint and Valkyrie
it is not obvious to me that our health system does anything to improve human flourishing It seems to just keep old decaying people around a few extra years so they can suffer a bit more I would like to see a focus on healthy eating I saw a dominos ad recently for puff pastry rolls containing either cheese or Nutella I hate to break it to people but you are signing your own death warrant if you get yourself addicted to that sort of crap I've always drunk water straight out of my River Believing that getting a good intake of germs is essential to create a healthy biome And now it seems like I was right I know there are many people on this forum who are morally superior But it's simply a great feeling to be physically superior To be able to walk up and down hills all day doing fencing in the hot sun And then to roll into town And see all the tubs of lard half your age Getting around on their scooters It gives one that wonderful smile that comes from knowing you are on the narrow road to success And with the way most people live their lives now days That road has virtually no traffic |
