Australia on track to break Paris carbon emission commitments :(
The Age January 28, 2021 Australia must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2045 if it is to do its part to keep warming to less than 2 degrees, an expert panel has found. The 2-degree figure is the upper limit of the Paris Agreement signed by the government in 2016. To reach the more ambitious goal of 1.5 degrees set by the agreement, the nation must reduce emissions by 74 per cent by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2035, according to an analysis by the newly created Climate Targets Panel. The panel includes leading Australian climate scientists such as professors Will Steffen, Lesley Hughes and Malte Meinshausen, as well as former Liberal leader John Hewson. The Australian government has committed to reducing emissions by 26 to 28 per cent by 2030 from a 2005 base, which Professor Steffen says is inadequate to meet the Paris goals. It is also far short of the recommendation by the Climate Change Authority in 2014, which said the government should cut emissions by 45 to 65 per cent by 2030. Due to a failure over recent years to drive emissions down, Australia must now make deeper cuts each year to make a reasonable contribution to Paris targets, said Professor Hughes, pro-vice-chancellor at Macquarie University. Diplomatic cost of Australia's climate stance is beginning to show The panel used the same methodology as the government’s own Climate Change Authority’s 2014 analysis and updated it to account for greenhouse pollution emitted since then. The model takes into account Australia’s population and its per-capita greenhouse gas emissions – making allowances for historically high emissions levels – and calculates what would keep us on track for the Paris targets. US President Joe Biden is expected to hold a climate conference in the first 100 days of his term to urge nations to commit to more ambitious climate change action before UN climate talks in Glasgow, Scotland in November. So far Britain, the European Union, Japan and South Korea have committed to reaching net-zero by 2050, and China has set a 2060 target. President Biden is expected to announce a 2050 target, while Australia has committed only to reaching net-zero sometime in the second half of the century. The panel’s findings come as the Climate Council estimated the cost of extreme weather events had doubled since the 1970s and over the past decade has reached $35 billion. The report predicts that by 2038 extreme weather will cost the Australian economy about $100 billion a year. “Globally, the 2010s was by far the costliest decade on record for extreme weather catastrophes,” the report said. “Australia has faced relatively heavy costs relative to other countries. “On a per-capita basis, economic damages from extreme weather disasters in Australia were around seven times the global average.” |

surely after the last 12 months with just a few airlines in the sky.. this must have gone some way to saving the planet??????...... surely it wasnt all for NOTHING.. :-/
suddenly CC is back on the menu barely mentioned in 2020 it comes and goes.....what the hell is Australia doing wrong NOW?....China has stopped importing our goodies.. ::) ::) apart from drugs almost nothing coming into Aust or leaving....what more can we do in times like this... how about we stop flying the vaccine in crook will that help?????? >:( >:( >:( >:( |

The covid-19 slow down HAS NOT had an impact on atmospheric CO2 levels which continue to rise, just shows how little the human influence is. https://public.wmo.int/en/media/press-release/carbon-dioxide-levels-continue-record-levels-despite-covid-19-lockdown |

How much CO2 would be left in the atmosphere...???
If all nations were to spend billions of dollars on the stock exchange mitigating manmade CO2 emissions. Some science first to get in the picture, Manmade atmospheric CO2 emissions are approximately less than 5% of the natural atmospheric CO2 that degases from oceans and land every year. The IPCC actually gives a residence time of about 4 years in the 2007 AR4 WG1 report (see page 948) see below, The IPCC say manmade CO2 emissions are 35GT/yr from fossil fuels and Natural CO2 emissions are 766GT every year from oceans and land. Therefore from the total amount of CO2 in our atmosphere today of approximately 410ppm then, Berry(2016) estimates the following, 392ppm comes from natural degassing of ocean and land every year and 18ppm are due to manmade emissions 410ppm - 18ppm = 392ppm, So if we got rid of all manmade CO2 in the atmosphere we would be left with 392ppm from 410ppm. Is it really worth it, to try and get rid of so little for so much. This little bit doesn't really make any difference in the end. Do you really want to spend billions of tax payer monies on the stock market to reduce the small amount of manmade atmospheric CO2 content of which is 18ppm because the rest 392ppm is natural, unless we attack nature herself..? Think of it this way how much more higher would the temperature be from 392ppm to 410ppm I don't think that's the sort of mitigation the IPCC is talking about. Quote:
Below Scientific papers that conclude human emissions cause only a minor change in the level of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Manmade CO2 emissions do not continually increase the atmospheric CO2 content as the IPCC claims. The IPCC Bern model about the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere is wrong, see papers below. If atmospheric CO2 levels drop to 180ppm then plants will no longer grow and this will collapse the food chain.
Remember that when you hear these alogorians telling us we have to drop atmospheric CO2 levels. Today we have approximately 410ppm of atmospheric CO2. Only the second time in the last 600 million years that atmospheric CO2 has been so low. Generally and naturally there has always been more atmospheric CO2 than we have today. |

Why it's a dreadful, terrible calamity, cheered on by only fools and idiots:
The US officially rejoined the Paris climate accord on Friday to much media and European applause. Our guess is that China is the most pleased because it knows the accord will restrict American energy while Beijing gets a decade-long free ride. Paris is a voluntary agreement, and nations submit their own commitments to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. The Obama Administration vowed to slash emissions 26 per cent or more from 2005 levels by 2025, but the Trump Administration withdrew from the accord. President Biden has now pledged to reach “net-zero emissions no later than 2050.” Like Mr Obama, Mr Biden is committing the US without submitting the Paris agreement to the Senate as a treaty. They know it would never get a two-thirds vote for approval, and probably not even a simple majority. Yet the Administration will cite Paris to justify sweeping environmental regulations to raise the cost of fossil fuels and subsidise renewable energy and electric vehicles. It will bypass Congress for much of this. The economic damage will be real. A 2017 analysis of the Obama Paris commitments, by the US Chamber of Commerce and the American Council for Capital Formation, predicted a $250 billion reduction in GDP and some 2.7 million lost jobs by 2025. Meanwhile, China emitted nearly twice as much CO2 as the US in 2018. Yet under Paris, Beijing gets a pass to increase its emissions until 2030. In 2020 China’s coal plants produced some 4,874 terawatt hours of energy — an increase of nearly 15 per cent since it joined the pact, according to S & P Global Platts. WSJ EDITORIAL BOARD 8:18AM FEBRUARY 22, 2021 Bidden, Mrs 'arris, Pelosi and the rest of them - what a fvvn disaster they are and are bring on the rest of us. |

Paris will have zero effect on the climate even if every nation meets its commitments. Mr Biden will dispatch John Kerry, his climate envoy, to lobby China and everyone else to reduce emissions, which will also please President Xi Jinping. Mr Xi will be happy to make promises about the future while demanding US concessions today on Taiwan, trade and more. The Chinese Communists must sit back and marvel as they watch the US undermine its own economic strength.
The Chinese contempt for Western stupidity is justified. |
