Joe Biden has distanced himself from a move to impeach Donald Trump, as top US military officials have been asked to put in place measures to curb the US President’s ability to launch a nuclear strike.

Quizzed over reports that Democrats could introduce articles of impeachment as soon as Monday (local time) unless Mr Trump steps down willingly or is removed by Cabinet, the President-elect responded: “What the Congress decides to do is for them to decide.”

He said his priority presently was preparing for his new administration and had three main concerns: the coronavirus, vaccine, and economic growth.

“I’m focused on the virus, the vaccine and economic growth. What the Congress decides to do is for them to decide. But I’m going to have to, and they’re going to have to be ready to hit the ground running, because when Kamala and I are sworn in, we’ll be introducing immediately significant pieces of legislation to deal with the virus, deal with the economy, and deal with economic growth,” Mr Biden said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not comment on when the impeachment process could commence following a lengthy conversation with her Democratic colleagues.

She said Democrats of the house hoped Mr Trump would “immediately resign" but if he did not, action would be taken.

“Today, the House Democratic Caucus had an hours-long conversation that was sad, moving and patriotic. It was a conversation unlike any other, because it followed an action unlike any other,” Mrs Pelosi said.

“It is the hope of Members that the President will immediately resign. But if he does not, I have instructed the Rules Committee to be prepared to move forward with Congressman Jamie Raskin’s 25th Amendment legislation and a motion for impeachment. Accordingly, the House will preserve every option – including the 25th Amendment, a motion to impeach or a privileged resolution for impeachment.

“With great respect, our deliberations will continue.

RUMP TO SKIP BIDEN INAUGURATION
Meanwhile, Mr Trump has confirmed he won’t attend Joe Biden’s inauguration.

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going,” Mr Trump tweeted.

The statement scuppered any idea that Trump might seek to spend his remaining 12 days helping his Democratic successor to calm tensions.

To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 8, 2021
Not since 1869 has an outgoing US president missed the inauguration of the incoming leader, a ceremony symbolising the peaceful transfer of power.

Mr Biden said it was a “good thing” Mr Trump would not be attending.

“He’s exceeded my worst notions about him. He’s been an embarrassment for the country and embarrassed us around the world. He’s not worthy to hold that office,” Mr Biden said.

He said Vice President Mike Pence would be “welcome” at his inauguration.

Mr Biden, who won seven million votes more than Mr Trump, as well as a decisive majority in the vital state-by-state Electoral College, will be sworn in on the Capitol Steps under huge security.

Between drastic COVID-19 crowd restrictions, the absence of Trump, and a new “unscalable” fence thrown up around the congressional complex, there will be little of the ordinary inauguration vibe.

Well she is currently the top dog democrat in congress until Joe takes over.

I dont think Joe has any interest in getting involved at this point in time nor has Pence as he probably has ambitions after Trump departs and he doesnt want to get offside with Trump lovers in the GOP

Biden has no power, cods.

Until January 20, he's just a private citizen.

It's up to Nancy to initiate the impeachment process.

Joe couldn't do it even if he wanted to.

I've tried to explain this to you before.

Joe isn't in Congress.

He's not the opposition leader.

Rocky Raccoon
The Beatles

Now somewhere in the black mining hills of Dakota
There lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon

And one day his woman ran off with another guy
Hit young Rocky in the eye
Rocky didn't like that
He said, "I'm gonna get that boy"

So one day he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon

[Chorus]
And Rocky Raccoon checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
But Rocky had come equipped with a gun
To shoot off the legs of his rival

[Verse 2]
His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy

Her name was Magill, and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy

Now, she and her man, who called himself Dan
Were in the next room at the hoe-down

And Rocky burst in, and grinning a grin
He said, "Danny boy, this is a showdown"

But Daniel was hot, he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner
[Instrumental bridge]

[Verse 3]
Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said, "Rocky, you met your match"
And Rocky said, "Doc, it's only a scratch
And I'll be better, I'll be better, Doc, as soon as I am able"

[Chorus]
And now Rocky Raccoon, he fell back in his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Gideon checked out, and he left it no doubt
To help with good Rocky's revival

[Outro]
C'mon, Rocky boy
C'mon, Rocky boy

And not a word. Not one, about Trump -  yet again - completely trashing convention by not attending the inauguration.

No doubt it will be framed as "That'll show the elitists/cabal...one more time!"  ::)

OR

"He's doing the right thing, else tensions would only be further inflamed..."

No. He is not.

It is about the "peaceful transfer of power."

His non-attendance will be seen by his supporters as (yet another) confirmation that the election was "stolen".

Any chance Biden might have had to re-unite the country over the next four years...gone, I reckon.

As for Pelosi, I hope she comes to her senses and "lets sleeping dogs lie."

I noted in another thread - also ignored - that this whole second impeachment thing is, frankly, pointless Grand Standing. Trump is outta there come Jan. 20th. So why waste time on this pointless exercise?  ::)

Makes no sense.

No Mix, it's not pointless at all.

It's extremely important, and Nancy must push forward with the impeachment.

If they have him impeached in the Senate, it means he can never run for public office again - ever.

That's why it's important they proceed with the impeachment process.

It's not about getting him out of office - it's about ensuring that he never returns.

No cods, it will do more than that.

If they can get the impeachment through the Senate, Trump will never be able to run for public office again.

This impeachment isn't about removing him from the White House - it's about ensuring that he can never, ever return.

Here we go.  This is why impeachment is so important right now:

Article I Section VII clarifies that removal is not the only punishment impeachment can bring.

It reads: “Judgment in Cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States.”

This clause shows definitively that the Senate can inflict a penalty that would prevent Trump from holding office again. Under established Senate practice, that vote to disqualify would require only a simple majority vote in the Senate, less than the two-thirds vote required for conviction.

It's about security (and safety) for the country.

Trump is a dangerous sociopath, and he should never be allowed to run for public office again.

This impeachment is essential for the country to move forward.

... precedents show the Senate is permitted to disqualify President Trump from future officeholding on a majority vote if he is impeached and convicted.

Disqualification is a severe punishment for a “high crime and misdemeanor,” and although it has been used in impeachments of federal judges, it has never been imposed on a US president.

Now, however, we have crystal clear evidence that the president has engaged in conduct that requires this extreme punishment.

Which is the worst "punishment"?

Being disqualified from holding Public Office for good? (But being potentially pardoned for Federal crimes, if any),

OR

Leaving office and letting the "cards of justice" fall where they may?

I guess there are other arguments, too.

1) Prevent someone who is arguably unfit to hold Office from leading the U.S again, and

2) The "justice cards" might also include State crimes, for which a Federal Pardon is invalid.

*shrugs*

Personally, I don't think he should Office again, but that's just me.

And there is the "other" side to this coin...

Many here seem to be "sinking the slipper in" to those on the right (rightly or wrongly). That's fine, as far as it goes. (It's just a forum after all).

But now that the Dems have power "across the board" (or will have after Jan 20th), an impeachment will likely be seen as really "sticking the boot in", which isn't what the U.S needs, if the Dems are serious about "healing".

That kind of stuff will really "inflame" tensions, you'd think...now and into the future.

Again, JMHO.

Nancy on Trump becoming President in 2016

Quote:
Rep. Nancy Pelosi: ‘I guarantee it,’ Trump won't be president
"Take it to the bank."

May 16, 2016

2016 is a bizarre year to be in politics, with a looming presidential election that will likely pit conventional DC-insider Hillary Clinton against controversial outsider Donald Trump. But U.S. Rep. and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says she's not worried.

"Donald Trump is not going to be President of the United States," Pelosi said on the latest episode of Recode Decode, hosted by Kara Swisher. "Take it to the bank, I guarantee it."

That is the role of the House leader. Separation of powers and such, they are meant to be in charge of that aspect.

Actually they spent 4 years trying their best to not impeach him. he could have been justifiably impeached about 15 times and should have been impeached at least 5 times. When he was impeached it was a pretty lame effort leaving out most of the real charges.

Just the Muller report listed at least 10 provable impeachment charges.

nancys husband is one of californias biggest property developers.

with lefty mayors and governors lokcing donw, encouraging tent cities full of homeless defecators,  downtown LA and san fran are now cheap real estate.

nancys hubby should be able to scoop it all up for a song and make a killing.

he will need to if he is going to pay a plastic surgeon to make skeletor less horrid

This might be a case of be careful what you wish for. The fact that Pelosi has spent four years doing her utmost to get rid of Trump to the detriment of the proper functioning of the government speaks volumes about her character, but lets say she finally succeeds at the last minute.

Trump himself cannot stand again, but he is still rich, still has a huge following. He can form a political party with someone else as the front person, someone who comes across far better than he does, someone who has the ability to court the media......

As far as the democrats are concerned it may be best to let this alone.

Yes he can.

Unless he's impeached, and convicted in the Senate.

If that doesn't happen, he can run for President again in 2024.

Biden doesn't have the power to do anything.

He's a private citizen.

I've explained this to you several times, yet you just don't seem to understand.

What the bugger is wrong with you?

Under established Senate practice, that vote to disqualify would require only a simple majority vote in the Senate, less than the two-thirds vote required for conviction.

that looks like vigilante REVENGE....

very nasty   maybe Joe is hoping she will fall flat on her face..

Nancy is finished mainly because she has been a terrible leader of the House. She has been much too generous towards Trump and thus ineffective in protecting the nation.

The sooner Pelosi is gone the better but Trump does deserve to be impeached over his actions many times over.

You only have to think  ?

He has 2 impeachable offences just this week.

His attempt to get the Georgia election overturned with his threatening phone call and then his  actions here. that was 2 in about 4 days.

No, he's not.

He has nothing.

Moreover, the Russian mafia wants their money back this year.

He doesn't have it, so he's in a lot of trouble.

Trump is broke, and his creditors are circling.

Don't be surprised if he flees to a foreign country, or is killed in an "accident" this year.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi: ‘I guarantee it,’ Trump won't be president

She has been investigated and is above the law. There are bad people in this world but rarely do I call one truly evil but this is one!

Pelosi has one lame impeachment doing nothing to interfere with the running of government.

Mitch was the worst performing Senate leader in history in the same time blocking almost every single bill to be put before the senate. Mitch in the senate brought government to a 100% stop. The house were effectively doing nothing as nothing was going through the senate.

Mitch McConnell was blocking effective government for the last 2 years. There was nothing that Nancy could do to impact government, maybe more accurately nothing that she wasn't too useless to do.

Isn't that the truth!

the thing about leftie women in power is they dont have strong confident cocky masculine men to complement them.

this leads to an "emotional state crash' and they become flustered, frustrated , mean spirited and resort to character assassination and reputation trashing as their "go to " strategy.

name one female leader with a bit of poise and charm?
maybe QE2
maybe margaret thatcher.
maybe teresa may.
maybe even tulsi gabbard

but there is something very ugly and sinister about the spinister class.

warren, pelosi, the squad, palachook and the other female state premiers, merkel, plibosek....seething vengeful ugly .

they give off this feeling of being a "creature" that 'disgusts" you.

trump is a pretty crude crass guy.
thats acceptable in a man.
but he is such a dominator, that women get sucked into his frame and "what they resist , persists".

this happens to our leftie posters as well.
they are sucked into trumps frame.
he lives in their brain.
they become just like him but without the wit and the humor.

they just become the crass bullying part of his nature.

fascinating

It's  always arse about with the Left.

Four years of endless, fruitless investigation into non-exustente foreign interference in the 2016 election ( the Russia hoax). Most outlandish claims with no evidene, investigated by the state apparatus and the FBI agai and a gr ain abd again.

Evident fraud, testified to by a 1000 avvidavits, by the Democratic machine with a documented 100 year history of electoral fraud - fairest election eva, nuffin' to see here, move on.

The barefaced, hypocritical and  totalitarian insincts of the Left are always, and once again, on shameful display. But being totally shameless,  nothing will embarass them.
