Title: Fingers crossed... Post by Lols on Jan 1st, 2021 at 1:06pm
I have nervously booked flights to go to Queensland from Melbourne mid month!
Let’s see if we can finally get there to sort out what we couldn’t do last year due to border lockdown! I see on news as from midnight tonight...the whole of NSW will have borders closed to them, rather than just hot spots. Well... now the cases of Covid have grown in Melbourne as a result of travellers from NSW! So fingers crossed ... yeah... :-/ |

;D of course, “greetings earthlings” welcome to Queensland! Let’s hope we make it, all flights and long term car parking booked. Be interesting to see if many visitors are up there with all this Covid uncertainty about us. I’m told by friends “hold off on the booking” but I say.... it’s NSW the problem, not Vic or Qld. But that could change. Hopefully not. It’s a waiting game. Be funny if it all went into state border lockdown all around and I’m stuck up there in Qld! Will batten down hatches here at home for the long haul... just in case! |

Fingers crossed Lols. It is not looking good, however. Palaszczuk could shut it all down in a nano-second. The current outbreak in NSW and to a lesser extent Vic is pushing the envelope again. Thing is, while I totally sympathise, there a very few Qlders who are unhappy about the tough stand Qld has taken. Quite happy as always to have you lot up here...but leave your Covid out of this State. Lying 'Mexican' arseholes have also not been helpful to 'your' cause. Anyway, I do hope you make it, and you are quite right to prepare for being held captive up here at a moment's notice. |

I am in the same boat Lols. We have booked a flight, accommodation and car package to Cairns - plus airport parking here in Melbourne. We are due to go next Saturday but it with the virus issues in NSW and now Vic, we may get shut out (or shut in) either here or in Qld. I really want to go back to FNQ again but I am not sure whether it is worth the worry or the risk. I guess tomorrow will be judgement day

Vic... I got their “higher than normal call volumne” message on Jetstar contact number... but the message was that if our flights are effected or cancelled, they will let us know
So it’s a day by day wait for now. I’m yet to find out about needing to have test and self isolate when arriving in Queensland, so... any news update would be appreciated. |

Thank you my dear fellow Queenslanders.
Now my next query and for those travelling into Qld ... do we go to our accommodation after arriving at airport, then proceed into getting Covid tested until results? Also, which is better out if these locations to go get tested... https://www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19/visiting-fever-clinic-getting-tested And, are there more testing sites or are these ones in links only ones in Gold Coast area? I will try phoning airport again as it was closed yesterday. |
|
Title: Re: Fingers crossed... Post by Lols on Jan 4th, 2021 at 3:19pm
Hopeless getting through to airport so I left message (bet they don’t get back to me) then it was hopeless getting through to airlines, I phoned
con-x-ion shuttle bus, they outlined things and I phoned Qld Covid hotline. Results to this date and time is coming from Melbourne (Victoria) is okay as it’s not a declared hot spot by Qld. Must wear mask. Can come into airport, collect luggage, get shuttle to where your accommodation is, then can go to get a Covid test at either Hospital in Gold Coast, or UpperCoonera respiratory clinic. Then... self isolate until results come in. Can be on average 2 days. But can really be anywhere from 24 hours up to 5 days. Hope this helps other travellers from Victoria into Queensland. For now. |

I got the same message when I was down in Wollongong a couple of weeks ago. I had wanted to change my flight but wanted to check some details because thats the same weekend all the lockdowns started up again. I tried multiple times, each time holding for at least 30 mins, and never once got to speak to anyone. I'm pretty sure that message is on a loop, and you're not even on hold when you get it. They're just pretending to put you on hold. |

Be interesting to see if at Gold Coast airport they help arrival passengers with this list etc If they have their act together that is! PS... still no return phone call after I left message on Jetstar contact number. But... I will give it time... very interesting to see how long it will take. |

My advice Lols is save your money and don't go to Wally World. Not for a while yet.
By the look of the Fed Govt opening up more Internationals to come in, as if Australia can deal with this ::) effectively in protecting this country. I very much doubt the Virus will go away this time. Tourism/holidaying is what has spread the Virus (from OS) around considerably in Australia. With the Virus accelerating considerably and mutating new strains which seem even more deadlier - I think the next few years are going to be far far worse than 2020. 2021 is the year Australia falls in line with the rest of the world. Australian Medical lack the Staff (because everyone sits on the Dole) and will fail to keep up despite the ego of 'technological superiority', etc. ScoMo "But we can let in a few people, it'll be ok. It's all about Jobs and Economy... all about the $$$ - just ask Hansie Cronje "But I didn't mean to take the money" |

Yes. I think many people don't appreciate their own States.
Let alone their own country. Why the need to 'flee' to have a good time? The Tourism Industry (as much a rip off as the American Health system) in Australia and Qantas are trying to drum up the drive for Australians to fly overseas 'soon' - as if the Virus will go away. "Australians have always been famous for travelling overseas... blah, blah" There is more to the Australian and local Economy than saving an Industry that was a Rip Off in the first place. |

Daughter arrived at airport in Coolangatta okay.
First thing she noticed... everyone took their masks off! She kept hers on. So that’s wrong isn’t it? Until one had to to tested for Covid? There’a an error in that way. And in the shuttle bus no one wore a mask, yet daughter kept hers on, up front riding shotgun, with window open away from everyone! What the hell is wrong with people!!! Wear the friggin mask until test and remove once in self isolation. What part of that is hard to comprehend about this virus which can spread???? |
|
Title: Re: Fingers crossed... Post by Jovial Monk on Jan 7th, 2021 at 3:02pm
In the Spirit of Tasmania you are supposed to wear a mask in public areas in the ship (can take them off on deck.) Yet there are bars and restaurants in the ship—and people eating and drinking took their masks off, naturally but theoretically eating and drinking should have been restricted to the (outside) decks, not inside the ship!
Half measures! |

She says to me “Queensland is so clean and shame on anyone that does not respect it to stay that way!” I’m actually thinking of reporting the slackness at airports and lack of information and lack of SMS on travellers mobile phones of requirements! Title: Re: Fingers crossed... Post by Lols on Jan 16th, 2021 at 1:26pm
We made it. Up here in the Qld heat!
We left cold wet winter like Melbourne (yes it’s mid summer!) so I guess I feel the heat more! Everyone between airports are all wearing masks no problem. No announcements or signage to ask all travellers into Qld to do Covid test. But we will go do the test this arvo. Then self isolate until test results come in. So there was an interesting unexpected border “situation” my daughter had coming to pick us up at Coolangatta airport. She went doing that highway loop on route to airport crossing into NSW to get back to Qld and was stopped to get checked, So far not a good look, Victorian number plate, Victorian licence. After her explanation they checked her phone where she had been in the past up to that point...(via all phone towers).. that all checked out okay, no hot spots....plus she had the negative Covid test results on her phone .... whew! ... so yeah... they’re doing their border checks good! Who knew your phone could dob you in via phone towers info stored when you travel, and where to :o |

Yes, your phone does dob in on your movements! Want to move in secret? Leave your phone at home!—
Glad you made it to Qld! Now to get back to Vic! Check the Vic govt website. I might be travelling to Tassy in April—selling my block, buying a bigger block so have to move trees (or supervise those doing the moving.) Will try and sneak in a day in Melbourne and visit that antique shop. Will let you know. Going to change the Mazda for a utility—transport my trees, transport second hand doors, windows, plant pots yadda yadda when the house gets built. Second hand is good—recycle, repurpose. Cheaper than new, more solid then new, etc. Double glazed windows is what I want to source! |

Geez did the heavens open up late yesterday :o
We got a drenching big time between the M1 to the M3 coming towards Gold Coast! It was heaviest downpour and flooding. The wipers could not keep up... it was like blind driving ...I like the fact every car slowed right down at crawling speed to get through that storm safely! Many cars went and stopped in emergency lane rather than keep driving. I thought we left wet cold mid summer Melbourne behind. Guess it followed us up to Qld ::) note: oops sorry image too big... just scroll it across fit whole picture. Can’t adjust the image sizes via imgur on mob phone |

Well, we had a great 9 days in FNQ and got back OK. Even with the mandatory application for permit to enter Victoria that happened during the middle of our time away, all went smoothly. I must say that there was a bit of added stress checking each day to make sure Victoria hadn't stopped us from returning altogether but, where we were was relatively COVID free so in the end, it wasn't a great worry. The advantages were plenty of spare rows on the Qantas flight up and back, hardly any tourists where we were so good access to everything, and the price was great!.

Well that’s it... Victoria in a snap decision in stage 4 lockdown again. Another hotel bungle up.
It’s the type of new norm we have to expect.... and how do people feel about planning anything even to travel within our own country? Answer: Hesitantly! I myself, feel very mistrusting and have resigned to just putting the suitcases away... gathering dust... future travel planning is definitely off putting. Even trying to organise a wedding can be ruined in an instant... as lockdown starts midnight tonight.... I think weekend weddings one or two days before, with food going to spoil. How do they recoup their losses? How do they re-book it all when it can take up to a year to book places, photographers, musicians, caterers. And weddings guests that have nervously travelled from interstate are now stuck. Everyone that were at Melbourne airport during certain days this mid week (about 5,000 passengers) are now required to have a Covid test, and self isolate/quarantine for 14 days. Words like travel, weddings, funerals, celebrations of any kind, are going to be “iffy”. All that good fun stuff we used to do without any fear. My d.i.l was a Qantas airline hostess travelling to LA, Dubai, or Singapore. She feels travel overseas via plane or ship may not take hold again for years. She has a different local job now...part time only. I can’t predict it, but I think at least another 18 months before we know if the coast is clear... for real travel again. What I had noticed.... all them amazingly reasonably priced camper vans during lockdown... are all sold... and the rest of them are more expensive... Second hand cars also selling like unprecedented crazy as new cars could take 2 months to get here? Don’t believe them car dealers if they say 2 weeks... not so. Now we Victorians are back to limited 5 kms travel from home. I’m making photo books of our past travels.... nice to look at the memories.... |

I bit the bullet today and booked a cruise from Southampton up to Norway and into the Med to Rome. It is in October 2022 so here is hoping the world has returned to some semblance of normality by then. It was very good value - flights to London with two nights hotel, transfers to Southampton, 24 day cruise with Verandah Cabin on the Island Princess, two nights at a hotel in Rome and flights home. A few sightseeing tours thrown in. All up, 16000 for both of us. We both love Norway and if I were a bit younger, I could live there!. So, fingers crossed

Yeah Red, It is called Re: Northern Lights & European Explorer and I got it through amanda.taylor@mycruises.com.au It is only advertised on Facebook at the moment. It may be on the Princess website but apparently MyCruises is the only one with the all inclusive flight/cruise deal. |

Sounds like an amazing cruise! Would love to see the Northern Lights. When we cruised Alaska... no, we didn’t see any northern lights but I did buy a ring called northern lights :) Looking forward to some of your photos later Vic 8-) |
