Title: ASIC charges you for your own information
Post by freediver on Sep 28th, 2020 at 6:50pm
If you register a business such as a coporate trustee for a SMSF, ASIC keeps a record of the company information. Some dealings require you to provide a copy of this information (an "ASIC company extract") to other people. ASIC does not provide this information to you when you register a company, even though they require an email address with registration. Instead, they charge you to look up your own company information on the ASIC website and download it.

The ASIC website has pages and pages of information about how to use this lookup service. Almost none of those pages include a link to the lookup service. So if you google it you invariably end up looking at very detailed information on how to search for a company and interpret the results (it does not really need any explanation), yet the flood of information prevents you from being able to search for a company.

I just searched my own company information and it came up straight away, no charge.

Ok. Doesnt surprise me they charge for anything further, nothing is free these days from government services.
