AGW science is physics and maths and physical chemistry and astrophysics and meteorology and lots of allied sciences: geology and geochemistry and and palynology to find proxies for past temperatures.

In “An Intro to AGW” in my Critters & Gardens board I outlined the mechanism of AGW: black body radiation (IR) the radiative properties of CO2, H2O, CH4, N2O, O3 and CFCs etc, satelites spectroscopy of the IR spectrum at the top of the atmosphere etc.

He thinks there has been record breaking cold weather all over the globe, that that is a sigh of his mythical new ice age.

It has NOT been cold all over the globe, of course, that is Booby being the prize pratt he is: no idea of probability distributions, of looking at the whole globe, nothing like that.

A few record cold here—usually coldest in ONE locality or ONE region for 10 years, hardly any cold records going back as far as the 1980s, hens teeth of records going past the 1980s. But they do NOT cover all the globe. A lot of the “cold records” are not cold but snowfalls: snow can fall even in summer, is not a sign of cooling.

We can also look back for the globe over time—these graphs show a lot if you care to look—what has warmed more, winters or summers? Notice that the bands are not uniform, one band can have years from earlier or later periods in its band: things like El Nino/La Nina/Volcanic eruptions etc etc:

It's a great place to begin the debate. The single question that really needed to be answered, but wasn't, was the question about jobs. If coal and other polluting energy sectors were eliminated, what would happen to the hundreds of millions (and I mean hundreds of millions)of jobs that are married to it, especially in Asia? This question was on the lips of every Chinese student in this movie. Al Gore has not one significant, concrete contribution to make regarding this question. And it is impossible for a coal shoveller in China to apply for a job in new solar technology, if his coal pit closes. In this respect Al Gore hasn't fooled a single Chinese citizen. In China if a new coal pit opens, there will be about 100,000 (100,000) applicants. I wonder what the reaction would be if he went to a meeting of coal miners and told them that their livlihood had to be abolished to save the world. I don't think they would clap with praise like the Chinese students and professors. I think they wouldn't give a damn. Complaining about the dirty particles in the air, while luxuriously jetting around the world filling it with exhaust fumes, is not the way to convince the rest of us to change to environmental friendly activities. And who paid for his trips, cars, and voyages to the polar reigions in submarines? Respectfully, after his son's accident, and seeing the bill, I would have thought that Gore would have looked into health care reform first, if he had his thumb truly on the pulse of the people. Two easy ways to dispose of this crap:

1. Go to NASA, see what they say about the Sun. They say solar activity is picking up.

2. Remember that the LIA started in 1300, the Maunder arrived 350 years later. So a GSM did not cause the last LIA so why should a GSM now cause one? Does not make sense.

You can also look through the science literature and find that the cooling due to a GSM is so minor a few years of warming from AGW will wipe it out. Yes, AGW will continue through a GSM which is just the sun emitting a bit less UV.
