Title: No Pension Increase In September Post by whiteknight on Aug 19th, 2020 at 7:19am
No pension increase in September :(
August 18, 2020 WA Today Pensioners won't get the automatic boost to their bank balances they're used to in September because inflation went backwards in the June quarter. The only welfare benefit that will go up in the regular six-monthly review is the single parenting payment, which will rise by $3 a fortnight on September 20, Department of Social Services officials confirmed to a parliamentary committee on Tuesday. Australia's pensioners will have to wait until at least March to see an automatic rise in pension rates. Consumer prices fell by 1.9 per cent in the June quarter, taking annual inflation to minus 0.3 per cent. "Based on the calculation for indexation, if it's negative, we don't reduce the pension but we also don't increase it," DSS deputy secretary Nathan Williamson said. He could not say how long pensioners would have to wait until their payments did go up. "I'm not in a position to say that because we have to wait to see the broader economic outcomes," he said. JobSeeker payments, which mostly go to unemployed people, also won't rise in September because, like pensions, they are linked to the consumer price index. "It all comes down to the different formulas, the different statutory formulas which are applied," acting deputy secretary Shane Bennett said. Each payment is reviewed every six months, in March and September, to reflect changes in living costs and wages. The current base rate for the aged pension is $860.60 for a single person and $1297.40 for couples per fortnight. Officials said they probably would not have the data until about mid-February to know whether a rise would go ahead in March 2021. |

Just dump em in an Aged Care facility.
Where women, having to care for children. Also have to care for the oldies, because Men won't care for anyone. Just dump em and void the Pension. |

Where did I specifically blame the Libs in my post, cods? And is it wrong for old age pensioners to be renting their homes? |

ahh nice deflection bam... who said anything about renting ?? you blame the libs for everything... a lot of pensioners still like poker machines still smoke and like a drink with their mates.. all things they did when they worked... you cant expect the govt to fund that lifestyle....look at the cruise ships bam full of retired people...some go every year... |

I did - because it is relevant. Old age pensioners who are renting are not doing very well at all. cods wrote on Aug 19th, 2020 at 4:04pm:
Where did I specifically blame the Libs in either of my posts, cods? cods wrote on Aug 19th, 2020 at 4:04pm:
They can enjoy some pleasures in their autumn years if they want. Are you such a sourpuss that you would oppress every person in the country who relies on an age pension, denying them even simple pleasures in life for no other reason than their source of income offends you? And how do you know that none of them paid taxes in their working life? The usual rightard tendency to generalise, perhaps? |

They have to save and go without to do that. Why wouldnt you want them to do it in their old age? Most worked all their lives and deserve some R&R. you really are very judgy arent you Spot |

For some lonely pensioners, that is the only R & R they get. It's their business anyway what they do with their earned pension. I restrict myself to $15 at the club - $5 for a beer and $10 for a flutter.... and I've been twice in the last month. I drink from a case cheaper at home and can play online pokies for nothing. |

I am not judging them....but dont cry poor....I went without when my kids were little we had bugger all... now I spend what I have on things to improve my home that we worked for...no hand outs in my day..... if I need a plumber I am the one that has to pay him not a landlord.... I am not the one crying poor btw......I consider myself very very lucky I live in a great country... |

Seriously? Crying poor? Not exactly what anyone accused you of. Would you like the govt to tell you (or someone like you) what to spend your money on? Spot |

That's what the Federal government has planned. By 2025 or so, aged pensioners would no longer have control over their own aged pension. They would not be allowed to pay an electricity bill if it's a few dollars over the government's budget for that item. Don't believe me? I've seen the legislation. |

The high cost of pensions might explain why the Communist Victorian "Govt" now regards old people as disposables and is freely allowing them to die from the Virus.
