This is unbelievable:
https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/CPU/AMD-Socket-TRX40/81131-100-100000163WOF AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X (Base: 2.90GHz, Boost: 4.30GHz / 256MB Cache / TRX4 / 64 Core / 280 Watt / Without Heatsink/Fan) $6799.00 64 core 128 thread. I never thought I'd see the day when you could own your own supercomputer. |

Mate I remember when I had to get a US exception to buy for work a VAX VMS system that was classified as a super computer because it ran at 100M CPU. We all have super duper computers compared to any previous classification in our phones and PCs. 128 threads... you need an operating system and applications that are multithreaded to take advantage of this. It is impressive. I bet they will use it to emulate quantum computing and for AI. Probably can access one soon in someones cloud services soon. |

I look at my iPhone 6 and think back to my first computer, a Tandy TRS 80 model 1. Tiny size, it is a phone, a computer, a compass, a calendar, a camera: photo, video, slomo, time lapse etc.
Only about 40 years between the two! The first Apollo manned moon landing spacecraft had less computing power than my Tandy! Now this monster! |

I have a chess program called Stockfish 11 - free down load and the best chess program in the world. It can take advantage of as many cores/ threads and as much RAM as you put around the CPU. Many programs can do that now. 64 cores and 128 threads is an astonishing achievement for a computer you can have at home. AI tends to use GPUs - programs such as Leela chess zero. |

You are correct bobby.
I am clearly behind on such progress. |

Flamin' dear.
Wait for a bit and the price will come down. To use such a hot CPU generally you need a new mother board and a new power supply and more fans to stop overheating. |

Always let the gullible guinea pigs go out and buy the 'latest' gizmo that promises everything.
Remember the suckers for Plasma TVs, Hummers, Ostrich Farms and more!!! Steak knives thrown in for free! |

You need a whole new computer - water cooled with radiator & fans - new motherboard - new memory - new power supply, new video card etc |
