They any friggin' good? Thinking about getting this one. I'm done with Apple, Dell and HP horsepucky devices.
It's their "Yoga C940" that comes all sorts of point pricing crap like Dolby Vision, 4K, some "bitch ass" graphics card, 16G of memory, 2TB SSD and a outdated i7 processor. Reviews look okay and for the money can't find anything better. But I'm guessing it will fall apart by this time next year if COVID doesn't kill me first. |

Every one comes with a little bit of Chinese government spyware. Go with any other brand.

Don't buy it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenovo Lenovo Group Limited, often shortened to Lenovo (/lɛˈnoʊvoʊ/ leh-NOH-voh), is a Chinese multinational technology company that is headquartered in Beijing.[4] The company designs, develops, manufactures, and sells personal computers, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, IT management software, and smart televisions. Lenovo is the world's largest personal computer vendor by unit sales, as of March 2019. |

Work is actually paying for it. They want something they can resell at the end of the year and they are really frowning on HP and Apple products. I myself will never buy another Apple product ever. As far as spyware in the BIOS every manufacturer has that. I've worked with Lenovo's before and found them to be more reliable than any Apple crap I've ever owned. I have not used my iMac Pro in months because its such overpriced garbage. |
Title: Re: Lenovo Craptops Post by freediver on Jun 20th, 2020 at 9:32am
But this one is Chinese. That's the issue. We should be boycotting all Chinese products, to send a message to the government over their handling of the coronavirus outbreak and their attempts to use trade sanctions to prevent a proper enquiry.
There are lots of different brands. If it's for work, why can't you just ask the IT people for advice? |

Lenovo started by buying the IBM Thinkpad when it was by far the most robust laptop on the market.
They were always butt ugly and tended to be slow-ish but unbreakable. (or close to it). The chineese ones are not in the same class but likely as good as HP. Been using HP's the last decade and they are getting more and more disappointing, I suspect still in front of Dell and the cheepies. Like most things you can get a lot better but it won't be cheap. Good Luck. |

For home office use, nothing beats a good old tower. Fast, reliable, up-gradable and cheaply repairable = less e-waste. I have two towers in my home office. I used to do a lot of design and video editing (and still do some) so a desktop is unbeatable. It never goes online so it's still as clean and fast as the day it was built. When I upgrade the editing PC it gets demoted to general use Also, I've used the same guy to build my computers for about 15 years and last time one had a fault, a blown power supply, he didn't even charge labour, just swapped it out and it cost less than $100 bucks and ready in an hour. Everything I do with my tablet hits the cloud as soon as I get home and is there waiting for my on my PC. |

I make the same mistake twice. Maybe there will be a third. But, surely, you would draw your own conclusions that I would counter boycott something simply because of the unfair boycott my countrymen receive. I did not purchase a Lenovo laptop simply without being satisfied reviewing the product in store before purchase. Had this pandemic hysteria happened threeeee years earlier, followed by the Chinese ultranationalism and racism against Australia(ns), I would probably not have purchased the Lenovo. |

If it was not for the fact that the Chinese banned meat imports from Australian meat holdings that had mislabeled the beef exports, my town would be doing it tough. The fact is, the Chinese unleashed a virus on the world without clamping down on those who were suffering the virus in China. We could have avoided the lockdown if the Chinese acted responsibly. And we would not be suffering a downturn of Chinese imports from Australia if the Chinese authorities did not act like spoiled brats who can't take criticism. The fact that I don't personally suffer from the Chinese boycott, it does not mean that I cannot act with altruism supporting those that have suffered. I can rethink my purchases a bit more in future about where the product has come from. |

Lets see if I have this right.
Some Australians are boycotting Chinese products because they're a despotic totalitarian regime who are currently holding 1.5 million Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in concentration camps, killing Falun Gong and selling their organs, started a pandemic then manipulated the WHO and lied about it allowing the entire world to become infected, and China is boycotting Australian products because we simply asked for an investigation into the source of the pandemic. These to things are the same? OhhhKey.... |
