Title: How can i find a Renaissance painting i once saw ?
Post by Yadda on Jun 13th, 2020 at 5:11pm

How can i find a Renaissance painting i once saw ?

Is there an online search hub for Renaissance paintings anywhere ?

DESCRIPTION....
The painting is of a man, standing in a room, standing next to a table.

And there is a ram's fleece laying on the table.
[The table looks about 7 feet [2m] in diameter.]

[I have/had the impression that the painting, perhaps, portrays a man [Jason?] with the Golden Fleece? But i may be mistaken about that.]

I have quite a vivid memory of seeing that painting [or a copy], on a wall, in a house, around 1959.
[i won't state where precisely]

Hmmm.    I do not know that it was 'renaissance'.     I'm not readily familiar with the names of all of the painting styles.

But i thought that it did look like what i would associate, as being a 'renaissance' type style.

I would just like to see an image of it again, and perhaps learn its name, and who painted it.

Thanks Frank.

'man, fleece  large table'      yeah, OK.    [wink]

Wow.  I have, on some fortunate occasions walked through many wonderful art galleries [in Europe] as a tourist, many years ago now.

It all 'knocked my socks off', so to speak.

It was so, so, pleasurable, just leisurely walking around those places, and seeing all of those beautiful 'pieces' of art.

I remember seeing the statue of David in Florence.

Wonderful times, never to come again, i would guess.

It was an fortuitous opportunity [that trip through Europe], and i took hold of it, and i'm very glad that i did !

Well, if you saw it in europe it would be useful to know where you saw it.

I know what you mean  about those galleries. I saw an 18th century French  portrait of my wife in the Louvre 10 years before I met her. I knew that the face I was looking at would be significant in some way in my life without knowing how. The penny dropped when I saw another portrait of the same 18th century woman in the National Gallery in London 11 years later.

Never too old for Jung.

I've done all sorts of searches on your description and not found a thing that would be what you describe Yadda. I think it's god telling you, you should take up painting and paint the pic he has put in your mind.

The Birth of Venus sticks in my mind as a beautiful painting which i sighted in Europe.

Don't know if she looks like your young wife though.     [wink]

No probs Yadda, just remember it's the same god that let Islam become the second largest religion on earth with 1/4 of the worlds people following it. He obviously has a morbid sense of humour.

Setanta,

He created us, and then,     He stands aside, and allows us all, to make our own choices in life.

Is it cruel, to let the innocent suffer ?

I can see how, and why, many would harshly judge God, and his ways.

I do not.      .....i trust Him.     .....the result, is the peace in my heart.

Proverbs 16:4
The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Galatians 6:7
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Then how the hell can you see him as also an interfering god? A personal god that intervenes on your behalf? I get it, he works in mysterious ways.

Setanta,

How ? you ask.

'interfering' ?

You have a conscience.

Every man, and every woman, does.

The spirit of God will speak to us, in our conscience.

An 'advisor'.

If we take no notice of our 'advisor', he will withdraw.

And then, we will stop getting advice, from our 'conscience'.

Setanta wrote on Jun 13th, 2020 at 11:05pm:

We have a guardian angel, all of us do.

The spirit of God gives power [or NOT] to our 'guardian angel' [to act on our behalf].    ....it is what i believe.

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

When i was a teenager, and my situation in life was quite vulnerable ['unprotected'], two separate instances,
two people who threatened harm to me, [i learned] they both died.

Not at my hand !

One was a suicide.

But these were not an act of God ?

No, maybe not.     [.....how can a suicide be an act of God ?]

Can't prove it was.

And i know it is very presumptuous to assert/suggest that i was protected, then.

Will God protect me now ?

I'll die.     ....all flesh will die.

Does God say that he will protect [certain people] ?

Psalms 50:14
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
15  And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

God, talking about his own people, 'O Israel'....

Isaiah 43:3
For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4  Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

Psalms 73:1
Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

Some people believe.

Some people do NOT believe.    ....except what they can see with their very own eyes.

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Numbers 12:3
(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

Yeah Set, maybe their deaths [a little while after threats against me] were just coincidental.

As we all know, coincidental occurrences in time and space, are a part of the universal order of things [aka 'reality'].

I've just spent some time again, searching google images with these phrases,
but nothing.
I can see the painting in my mind, but can't find anything like it, approaching its form.
It would jump out at me if i every saw a copy of it again.
