Two questions.
Why did they fine him and why does a white man on the Gold Coast have a negro slave name? https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-05-19/whale-caught-in-gold-coast-shark-nets/12261980 |

Whales are steadily breeding up with more shark attacks being seen on young whales. They used to gather in the Derwent in Tasmania and impeded sailing ships. The Hobart yacht race is after the whales return south.

The fact that the morons are even considering fining him and undertaking an investigation
Just goes to show how little brains these brain dead morons are. But I suppose when someone who defends themselves or their family suffer worse than the animal that attacks them, nothing is beyond the stupidity of these freaks. If he is fined, I hope he crowd funds the fine. But it's sad that the money will be wasted on public serve us morons and seat polishers. |

Not much food in the Oceans these days.
Predators are forced to go after things they don't normally hunt. Orca are being killed by Mexicans because they say "They steal all the fish". That's humanity for you. ::) Whale Sharks are forced to eat bigger fish than mere plankton and small fish. Orca have been decimating Great White Sharks around South Africa for food and to knock off a competitor. Oceans food is becoming scarce. |

have you ever seen them fine those people who rush to get the whales back into the ocean after they beach themselves?????... it happens often round our shore line...yet I have never heard of them fining someone for going to the aid of a whale.. ::) ::) |

Is it embarrassing that you can't spell embarrasses? ABC just reported what he said. A recreational diver who freed a young whale caught in shark nets off the Gold Coast on Tuesday says he was instantly fined for his trouble, |

I saw this guy on the news last night they were also reporting people were outraged he could be fined for this.
He is a diver he isn't afraid of the water. |

It was ridiculous that they were thinking of fining him.
He should have been given an award for freeing the whale. As for being given a "caution" for interfering with the shark nets and being too close to a whale? How absurd. He may well have saved the whale because it was taking too long for the "official" rescue to get its act together. |

From the latest I've read, the infringement remains but they've withdrawn the monetary fine. Very petty. |

Title: Re: Django unchained a whale Post by Belgarion on May 22nd, 2020 at 12:13pm
The issue seems to be that the should have waited for the fisheries people to arrive and release the whale with less danger of death or injury to the rescuers and to the whale. Doing it himself risked death or injury and he damaged the net.

Title: Re: Django unchained a whale Post by Captain Nemo on May 22nd, 2020 at 1:32pm
IMHO it would have been impossible to free the whale without damaging the net.

yes I understand that however he didnt know about the drone and people linging up to rescue the animal.... this guy is an experienced diver I am sure it wouldnt be the first whale he has come across......he would have acted on the spur of the moment..... for all we know bythe time fisheries had got their act together the whale could have been dead. |
Title: Re: Django unchained a whale Post by freediver on May 23rd, 2020 at 9:22am
I have spent a lot of time in the water and have only seen a whale close-up on one occasion.
The other divers would have probably done more damage to the net. The safest thing to do would have been to keep a distance and cut all the way through it, then hope the whale can free itself. |

I freed a goat once that was tangled in a soccer goal net. I had to cut Billy out with a knife as the herd looked on confused.

if the whale had dived while he was trying to cut it free he could have found himself in a spot of bother. |
