When is someone going to question the competence of the so called experts who have given the politicians in this country this information...…
Politicians trot out this modelling crap ad nauseam to justify their actions...yet when the modelling is wrong...they simply say...well this is what it could have been...so we had to do what we did..... Its all crap..... And the dumbed down Australian public swallow it every time... We had a weak strain...we are an island.... The politicians will pat themselves on the back forever and a day.... Yet, they have ruined the economy and placed hundreds of thousands on the dole queue... ALL because of DEFECTIVE academic modelling..... |

I assume that modelling was a 'worst case' scenario.
ie - if no restrictions had been applied. Am just guessing here. |

"There could be as many as 30 different strains of coronavirus, a study of patients in China has claimed.
Zhejiang University scientists studied a small number of patients with the disease and uncovered tens of mutations - 19 of which had never been seen before. Some mutations boosted the virus' ability to invade cells in the body, others helped the disease multiply more rapidly. The most deadly strains were genetically similar to the ones that spread in Europe and in New York, reported the South China Morning Post. Meanwhile, the weaker strains were similar to those found circulating within other parts of the US, such as Washington State. The authors say their findings - based on just 11 patients - are the first to show the mutation could affect the severity of illness. They believe he previously unreported mutations could be the reason behind Europe and New Yorks devastating death tolls. It is still unclear why the aggressive strain of Covid19 spread to Europe and the more mild version hit large swathes of the US" Taken from a link which this forum does not allow me to post yet. Its a DailyMailUK link which I cant even cut and paste due to the rules...dated today... |

"Preliminary data from the Moscow civil registry office showed almost 20% more fatalities in April 2020 than the average April mortality over the past decade. The data, first published by The Moscow Times on Sunday, suggests that the city’s excess deaths may be linked to coronavirus. "
Russia has 146m. , av life span 72 years so 2m. die yearly or 160,000 month. 20% is 30,000 for April so maybe 45,000 total from covid. Russia reports 3000 deaths. US has 92,000 deaths so the 45,000 is likely to be the true amount. |

I have been standing behind the lines in the supermarket
like a good little slave. I even stayed at home for two weeks and didn't go out...like a good little slave... I regularly wash my hands, probably six times a day, which includes toilet visits. I cover my mouth when I cough. But seriously, Ive been doing this since I started school. This is simple commonsense hygiene but we are being brainwashed into believing that the sky is going to fall in if we don't adhere to tyrannical rules. I would hate to live in Sydney and attempt to abide by all these social distancing rules...sit on a green dot on the train...ride a bike to work..dont go somewhere if theres more than 10 people... Anyway....Im me....you are you.... I doubt everything the government tells me... Why..because I learnt at a very young age to never trust politicians....long story.... |

Title: Re: Corona 19 - what might have been Post by billy the kid on May 20th, 2020 at 12:14pm
On the one side of the coin we have medical "experts" such as Dr Jeannette Young in Qld, who wont allow two vintage planes to fly overhead on Anzac Day due to concerns about the virus.
AND on the other hand we have the economic "experts" who advise the politicians. The politicians then listen to both sides, and make their decision, which they tell us is based on the advice of the medical experts...who by the way "probably" were influenced by the "modelling experts" who could have been economic "experts" (or simply academic experts) or medical "experts" AND today I read an article from an American biologist which suggests that "loud talking" and singing will spread the virus further....the mind boggles... The only question I ask is.... Which experts are our "expert" politicians listening to... AND then when our politicians make mistakes, which by the way, they conceal with jibberish, who do we blame.... The politicians....or the "experts".... ….like Dr Young...... |

Why then does she order NRL players to have flu shots to play in Qld, yet other visiters to Qld are not stopped at the border
and turned away if they haven't had a flu shot...… This is the same CMO who is telling us that there could be tens of thousands of infections caused by one nurse in a Townsville Nursing Home.... I see...… Is that based on modelling...(insert here fit of laughter) or an "expert" opinion..... Phonecalls and footlockers....that's all they've got...... |

No...Young said that NRL players could not play in Qld unless they had flu shots...she stated that they could play if they had
a medical waiver, but would not be allowed to play if they refused to have a flu shot based on philosophical reasons. The NRL originally demanded that all players have a flu shot, then when Cartwright and others objected Young stepped in and demanded that they all have flu shots if they WANTED TO PLAY IN QLD.... |

Title: Re: Corona 19 - what might have been Post by billy the kid on May 20th, 2020 at 12:44pm
Doesnt social distancing on golf courses/pro shops allow
golf to be played.... BTW other states allowed it...but would not allow players to share a golf cart...which obviously contravenes social distancing….therefore the CMO in Victoria as an "expert" is out of step with other states... |

BH..youre avoiding the issue which GP raised...
that is.. he raised a question about medical professionals and their advice.... Perhaps you are simply conceding that their advice is not so much "expert" but simply guesswork. You cant get the virus playing golf. BTW I have spoken to Police at the roadblock in Coolangatta…. They assure me that no-one is turned back if they haven't had a flu shot. They also agreed that it was quite laughable for Young to insist on all NRL players having flu shots if they wanted to play in Qld…. |

Are you defending Andrews and his CMO?
It sounds like you are defending Andrews. Youre not serious are you. Each state has an expert CMO. Why didnt Victoria close its borders. The expert advice given by Qld CMO was to close Qld borders. Victoria is far more heavily populated than Qld, and adjoins NSW, another heavily populated state. Interstate travel between Victoria and NSW Id imagine, would be far greater, or at least equivalent to NSW/Qld travel. Why dont you admit that Andrews is simply a tyrrant and that all the CMOs are just guessing. We still dont know who was responsible for the Ruby Princess debacle.... Was it NSW Health...was it the NSW CMO.... In Qld we have planes which cant fly on Anzac Day due to a ruling by the CMO In Victoria, they cant play golf because of a ruling by the CMO And in NSW we have the Ruby Princess debacle where 2700 passengers are allowed to disembark.... By the NSW CMO????????....maybe.... And we are debating their competence.... Gimme a break......!!!! |

i'll call it into question. we have spot fires starting all over the place as was exactly to be expected. the correct scenario was to lock down to the extent that the hospitals werent overwhelmed. unfortunately our politicians and health officers (all of whom have not missed a dollar earnt or a day at work) clamped down way way too hard. we have 5500 ventilators, 5495 gathering dust. we should ease off and keep easing off till those ventilators are occupied because , guess what, this virus is going nowehre, many 100's of thousands of people are destined to get it , so why the delay. many 100's of 1000s of people get seasonal flu which is less contagious and which we have a somewhat effective vaccine for. the idea we can extinguish this is a lie. we need to man up and get back to work and shut down a bit if and only if our hospitals cant cope. i might add, in america, their hospitals are coping quite nicely |

That has been the case for much of the modelling, but it's like election polling and predictions. The modelling is probability-based. Those who are questioning it and the mouth breathers fighting every action taken to mitigate the spread of the virus deal in absolutes and can't handle the mathematical notion of probabilities. They're the same people who said everyone got it wrong when it came to the US election when most of the major pundits gave Trump a reasonable probability of winning, they just don't understand, or choose not to as it suites their narrative to claim the predictions were wrong, how the whole process works. It's the same thing with COVID-19. They are just itching to call all the predictions and the experts wrong so all the work that has gone into avoiding the worse case scenarios is undone because they don't want to show weakness and wear a mask or they're angry they can't go to their Asian massage parlour or spend hours away from their mouthy wives at the pub. It's not like you're being conscripted to go to war, you're being asked to social distance, wash your hands, treat surfaces as if they're raw chicken and stay at home. Such whiney little bitches. What would be wrong
With exploring other markets In a very quiet way And slowly readjusting our position Apart from our politicians feeling all virtuous about leading the world assault on China What real benefit does Australia get from being confrontational I can't see it Why would you tell the Chinese that you are going to explore other markets Why would you insult your customer It makes no sense I'm sure McDonald's could take the moral high ground And declare the we have an obesity epidemic And that it would be really good if that Steven and fat Janine no longer came to their establishment The board of McDonald's could sit around glowing in their virtuous position They could all slap each other on the back And give each other props Then when the shareholders get no dividend They could all vacate their positions Australian taxpayer is about to receive no dividend They are going to have less cash in their wallet And my ssessment of the Australian shareholder In Australia proprietary limited Is that they will be none too pleased when this virtue-signalling leads to a reduction in their disposable income |

Fortunately the real Australians are not as morally bankrupt as the CEO's, mining magnates and some politicians who will grovel to an evil regime to keep themselves in the style to which they are accustomed. Australians know that taking a stand against China's lies and bullying will cause some economic pain, but are willing to accept that rather than grovel like cowards. |

I've worked with enough crazy horses
To know that direct confrontation Is always a mistake You take on a 600 kilo beast head on And your ass is in the dirt QuickSmart You can't out muscle the beast You have to outsmart it A sensible Australian policy would be to continue to maintain pleasantries with the Chinese Whilst exploring every back door option available To cut them off at the knees The naivety of your average Australian He would rather virtue signal to his mates Then triumph on the playing field |

The problem Australia has is that our politicians, both state and federal are incompetent...always have been...always will be...
As a nation, we will lose out due to our spat with the CCP. Im not siding with the CCP.. Im just saying there is a winner and a loser. The upshot of the whole gig is that we have to find other markets overseas..... AND find them fast... That makes us even more vulnerable, as time is of the essence... Who was is that said..be careful when you want to poke the bear.... |

It's all very well to say we should be maneuvering behind the scenes to find new markets without upsetting China publicly, however given China's very public abuse and insults to Australia over the virus inquiry this is not possible. China will take any sign of compromise and attempts to smooth things over as weakness and will only grasp that they have made a mistake when Australia and the rest of the world tells them so in no uncertain terms. They can spit the dummy and slap tariffs on our exports but that will only hurt them more than us.

I have seen this situation unfold before where the perpetrator pushes the "I'm not responsible because I have a lot of friends and money" line against the victim.
China's mentality is that Australia is 20 million white people sitting amongst 2 billion Asian and brown people. We have no friends nearby. It is not surprising that China would use Australia as a target to bully. As suggested, if undeclared sanctions (we stop buying Chinese products) were to occur, perhaps China would rethink their attitudes towards the world in terms of who to bully. But, it would take a worldwide effort to get China to reconsider their attitude. And we have found that when Australia loses out on trade, the alternative trading countries take over. |

I used to start a Rugby game running slower than I could - to delude the opposing centres and wingers - then suddenly I'd show my true speed... take the ball from the scrum half by slicing in from left wing and storming through seven or more defenders before touching down under a pile of opposition players who tried to make out it was a ruck despite the fact that I was firmly down over the try line and ball on the ground and I wasn't letting go... The opposition 5/8 - one of the defeated defenders who should have taken up the slack - was an old school team mate and he didn't realise I was that fast when I wanted to be... Same with China... gull them into believing they are above the law - then take them down... every bully over steps his mark... |

Looking at the timeline when the restrictions were implemented, the Chinese virus was already under control, to prevent an overflowing of hospitals. I understand the point But all things we do to keep ourselves safe Come with the cost Now a seatbelt probably saves maybe 500 lives a year in Australia And the cost is maybe 100 bucks per car Extreme lockdown has may be reduced the death toll by similar amount And the cost is maybe 4 billion dollars a week we need to stop this you can't put a price on a human life bulshit If every teenager was given a $100,000 Top of the range Volvo With every safety feature known to man We would save quite a few lives Instead many of them I driving around in $2,000 15 year old Honda civics with dodgy brakes So society has decided they are fine with that Society has decided that a teenager's life is not worth shelling out the 10000 For. And yet society seems to be stuck in this weird vortex Where they are willing to shell our 4 billion So that we don't have the catastrophic death of 95 year olds in nursing homes It seems quite a logical to me |

An old vintage model of course. Only two of its type in Australia. Felt the freedom of moving with no belts. If only I could do so without a car too. That would be grand. |
