This impacts home design but more a city thing.

As Squire stated, areas in higher latitudes will face very long very hot summer days. The extreme heatwave in Europe last year brought that point home. Holland recorded a reading over 40°C! As a child in 1950s Holland I used to wear a coat in summer!

Urban design, public transport, power grids etc all need to change to allow European cities to cope with the increased heat they will face in summer. We are not immune—new dwellings are not designed to cope with increasing summer heat and nit designed to be low energy dwellings etc.
