i wouldnt be too concerned about the current virus.
it appears to only have a mortality rate of .6 %.

all these 'drastic measures" are probably only good as a dress rehearsal for a 'true ' pandemic.

if H5N1 was as infectious, it really would be neccessary to go bush.

Human cases of H5N1 avian influenza occur occasionally, but it is difficult to transmit the infection from person to person. When people do become infected, the mortality rate is about 60%.

but for this virus....its a bit of an over reaction.

i look at companies like qantas and note they might not make a profit for 12 months.
this happens regularly to us farmers.

a bad year would devalue my farm by maybe 5 %.

and yet some companies are down 50 %.

its a massive buying opportunity and they will bounce back within 12 months

Aqua, I'm not personally concerned about the virus, but close to a month ago I saw all this happening.

BTW the mortality rate is still undetermined as we can't trust Chinese numbers. The mortality rate actually depends on how the cases spike.

The virus is not the danger. It's a mild form of the flu. (Still, you can always trust the Chinese to inflict yet another plague on the world)

if that was me, i would count it as a blessing.

people seem to think we might run out of food.

if anything we will have a terrible glut .

we export food and we currently cant get a lot of seafood , fresh fruit , dairy etc out of the country.

i saw loons buying up on eggs.

Simple Answer:- Stop the War!

You're never going to stop a war by increasing your attacks on innocent bystanders. 

(Now for the ad Nazium) governments rightly condemn national/social groups (such as IS etc) for attacking and killing innocent bystanders in their self-declared war on everyone else - we see the same thing, in microcosm, in the approach of governments in the West to 'prevention of violence' - they continue to imagine that constantly attacking, and constantly ramping up the attacks, and exercising that prerogative of assault based in the majority of cases on nothing substantial - on ONE side of the issues - will somehow force that selected 'oppressor' social group to conform to some impossible standard of not being violent when most are not being violent anyway.

This is attacking a mass of generally innocents in the hope of culling the real perpetrators - and it is a gross injustice, something in itself guaranteed to generate a response.  The harm to individuals and to society overall as a direct result of this government stupidity is impossible to calculate... and nearly thirty years of this insanity by government has succeeded only in escalating violence in all ways, not least by that government itself.

It's simply never going to happen - as I've said countless times - throwing fuel on the fire will not put it out - and deliberately throwing fuel on a fire to cause harm to some near it is a crime.  Tell me - two people are sitting around a fire - one gets upset over something - a cop/court comes in and throws a bucket of petrol (better still, drops a napalm canister aimed at destroying families) on the fire to satisfy their 'feelings'.  How does anyone expect that nobody near that fire will be harmed?  EVERYBODY near that fire will be harmed..... got it yet?

ADDS:-  Oh - and Chimey?  No component of Western belief involves killing as part of some religious affiliation, unlike I-Slam, which not only condones mass murder, but encourages it in its infantile, backward, xenophobic, paranoid manner.  The West doesn't kill Islamites because they are Islamites - if it did there'd be no Islamites - it kills Islamites because Islamites kill other people without reason and often in hideous ways.

Nothing 'cultish' about random deaths in personal relationships..... nothing at all - it's a crime, not a way of belief or of life.

China's Military & Political Leaders not spending money on giving their peasants and country a wash from time to time.
Instead, allowing all the slime from rotting food (meat and plant) and dead animals to accumulate in streets and allow bacteria to morph into Viruses.

This must be the 3rd time some disgusting Virus has emerged from China.

China is a good example of where the world is heading with Pollution and Over-Population ruled by Military and Politics.

Expect more viruses to emerge from China.
