I'm still trying to work out what this United States Space Force is?

Forget about Star Trek for a minute, the US Space Shuttle was retired in 2011 and since then the United States hasn't even had the means to get people into low Earth orbit let alone set up some kind of "Space Force".

At least they're working on getting back up there on their own:

but, until this is ready, the US has had to rely on Russian spacecraft to get people to the International Space Station and back since the Shuttle was retired.

(Funny how the new Orion spacecraft is similar in design to the Apollo Command/Service modules - when they were on a good thing they should have stuck with it).

Well, if Mr Trump wants to pretend he's returning to the days of the Apollo missions, that's his choice in a free society.

Just remember, JFK offered the Russians a joint mission. The Soviets were too paranoid to come on board.

So yes, the international dream of Star Treck may well have happened if things had turned out differently.
