Title: Should the volunteer Firies be paid after ? Post by Redmond Neck on Dec 27th, 2019 at 12:59pm
Should all the private sector volunteer Firies be paid after working on fires for lets say a months fighting to qualify.
This allows it to remain voluntary but have a protection for these peoples financial situation. Even if this is roughly equivalent to the one months payed leave as per the Public Service Some state governments may already do this but lets make it mandatory I say yes Scomo get off your knees and do the right thing! Hallelujah !! |

Reddy probably does't know but
"Prime Minister Scott Morrison, however, said federal public servants who volunteer with state rural fire services to battle the blazes would get 20 days of paid leave on top of their regular annual and sick leave." But as fire is a STATE responsibility ScoMo can only suggest what they do "Morrison, who has been under pressure since taking a much-criticized family vacation to Hawaii during the wildfire crisis, urged the private sector to implement similar measures." “We know this does not address the situation for self-employed and small businesses directly, but it does mean those working for larger organizations can step in and take some of the load from those volunteers who work for themselves or small businesses,” he said. |

it is tough VOLUNTEER its means doing something for others fo no reward....it is a tough one....firies are not the only ones who volunteer....will it take the shine off what they do and why they do it????????.....
personally I think each and everyone of them should be rewarded not sure a slap on the back or a medal is enough......this year is extraordinary I think it is the exception to the rule......lets pay them what they are worth.. |

Another issue with this is the volunteers average age is getting older, in other words there are less younger people volunteering!
one can only deduce the younger firies are more likely to have mortgages, young families etc and probably cant afford time off work with no pay where as a lot of the older ones may be better off or retired. So pay them Jesus freak! |

The Courageous and Technologically Superior a Race of Australian Military swooped in to help the poor and exhausted Fire Fighters of basic technological capability and who has to sponge help from other nations and their Fire-Fighters.
Even now, the Fire Fighters are now burning their own fires to combat the Wild Fires, as if they had to borrow some 'sacred knowledge' from the jilted Aboriginals to make themselves look good. Now if only they could do it year round - we might not have these bloody Wild Fires of Mass Destruction! >:( Apparently the Soldiers are earning 'Tax Free' wages saving the Fire Fighter's arses! :P |

When you volunteer - you ain't in it for the money.
You are for the Sex though and single Australian women are throwing themselves at single Firies, let alone Mr December in the 2019 Calender. I can't see Politicians getting laid much, let alone picking up in Parliment House like Barnaby. They usually have to pay the Escorts that live all around Canberra in well to do abodes. Real Aussie Men get laid. The Gay ones get paid. |

Many Australian Volunteers are Wankers.
Just like those American Entertainers. I've picked up heaps doing Volunteer. A popular line has always been "I'll rather give you my body than my $10" when I go around with the collection bucket for fundraising. Ahh. Life is Poor, but the Sex is great!!!! No wonder there has been an increase in homosexuality in the Military. Over-paid self indulgence. ;) "When a Yobbo and Wanker want a girl. The Wanker guy will get her. Both of them are equally ugly. But the Wanker hides it better." ;) T.I.S.M |

Younger people have been taught that the way to help society is to be like greta To be an activist and complain To wave placards or glue yourself to the road. To go to a farm and free the goats and get lots of likes on social media. The leftist education system and leftist ABC have taught them this. The volunteer fire fighters are strong noble competent and in contribution. They buzz off their own awesomeness. They know that this sort of brutal training has huge pay offs in the business world. It teaches you to push thru barriers, never quit, call on reserves you didn't know you had. So it makes you more confident, strong, powerful and resilient which means you will crush it more when you get back to business. The lefties won't even support work for the dole , which is a spirit of voluntary contribution and which is way way easier then staring down Mother Nature. Lefties should stay right away from volunteer fire fighters. As greens supporters , most activist lefties are probably off starting fires so they can get all emotional on social media and virtue signal about climate change. I wouldn't put it past them |

Scomo is what we call a counterfeit conservative. He panders, apologises and back pedals. It's bad form. He lacks that core confidence that comes from the rough and tumble of business. Most of our national leaders nowadays are fairly soft and fairly meek and very reactive. It's not good. Foreign powers look at scomo and see he acts in a cowardly way when a few abc journos shame him on leftist media sites for taking a holiday. Strong world powers like china look at that and they pick up that disgusting weakness and it emboldens them to take advantage of his meek and weak character. The leftist s on here think it is very bad to have a " strong man" as a leader. A trump or a Putin or a de Jong ping. But a strong leader means other nations don't see you as an easy mark. Gillard, Rudd, Abbott, turnbull, shorten. Morrison.....All of them were too weak and soft . They need to be more trump like. A few guys like Dutton get it. Be strong, unflinching, love it when they hate you, stand your ground, laugh at the media when they attack you. Do that and you win....every game... Every time . |

Trump is not a "strong man" in any way, he is a weaselly, manipulative narcissistic bully who doesnt even pay his bills. The key to this is moral rectitude of which he has none, thats the mark of a strong man, a man who sticks by his word, honours his debts, exhibits personal morality and ethics and treats people with respect. You have lost your way Aquascoot, I have no idea why you are so fixated on Trump as someone to look up to, he is the least likely person to offer as an example of a "strong man". I agree about Dutton and you are wrong about Abbott, he stuck to his guns over the illegal migration racket from Indonesia despite worldwide opposition.

ScoMo sure knows how to make every post a winner. what a brilliant votes winner!!!! While Anal snarls as his FAKE FOTO shoot exploiting the fire fighters falls flat in great shame. PM Scott Morrison okays payments for NSW volunteer firefighters Jade Macmillan 11:36am, Dec 29, 2019 Updated: 3h ago Volunteers in NSW will be up for payments of as much as $6000. Photo: Getty Volunteer firefighters in New South Wales will be able to apply for up to $6,000 in compensation from the Federal Government, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced. But Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese said volunteer firefighters from all states should be able to access financial compensation for their efforts, not just those from New South Wales. Mr Morrison said the money would be made available to NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers who are self-employed or working for small or medium-sized businesses and who had been called out for more than 10 days this fire season. The payments of up to $300 per person, per day — up to $6,000 in total — will be tax-free and not means-tested. “While I know RFS volunteers don’t seek payment for their service, I don’t want to see volunteers or their families unable to pay bills or struggle financially as a result of the selfless contribution they are making,” Mr Morrison said in a statement. “This is not about paying volunteers. It is about sustaining our volunteer efforts by protecting them from financial loss.” Mr Morrison said other states and territories could request a similar scheme based on their level of need. Opposition leader Anthony Albanese wonders why only NSW volunteers? But Mr Albanese argued firefighters outside NSW needed extra support now. Mr Albanese said volunteer firefighters across the country needed compensation. “What about the South Australians and Victorians who’ve given up more than 10 days travelling across at their own expense into New South Wales to fight fires, travelling to Queensland?” he said. “This has been an issue that was raised with me across the country.” Queensland’s Rural Fire Brigades Association general manager, Justin Choveaux, said Mr Morrison’s announcement would start a conversation for Queensland and urged the State Government to act now. “We’d encourage the [Queensland] Government to get on to the Federal Government ASAP and also get on to the volunteer representative organisations in Queensland and say, ‘How are we going to make this work for the benefit of the people who defend the state for free’,” he said. Volunteer fighters give their time, their sweat and sometimes their lives to protect their communities. Photo: AAP The Government has come under increasing pressure, including from within its own ranks, to compensate volunteers as devastating bushfires continue to burn. Mr Morrison has previously said he had not received any requests from fire chiefs for volunteers to be paid but last week announced those who were also Commonwealth employees would receive an additional four weeks’ leave to fight the fires. “This announcement provides employees of small and medium-sized businesses and self-employed volunteers with the same level of support,” Mr Morrison said. “We expect larger companies to provide their employees with 20 days of emergency services leave.” The Federal Government payments will be administered by New South Wales and are expected to be made available before the end of January. Volunteer Fire Fighters Association president Mick Holton praised the Prime Minister’s announcement. He said some members spent their own money on expenses, including petrol spent driving to fire fronts and crowd funding for smoke masks. “This payment is no different to any other worker making an out-of-pocket-expense claim for their employment,” Mr Holton said. “It’s a step in the right direction — people will be rejoicing.” But he conceded there was concern compensation may attract the wrong types of volunteers. “Sometimes when we have major fires we get people coming out of the woodwork. Many have skills and are worthwhile participants. Others maybe not so.” |

While Anal cowers in shame after his abortive shameful foto shoot exploiting our fire fighting heroes ScoMo shines like a holy beacon on the Mountain of Might.
Australia fires: Volunteer firefighters to receive compensation 28 December 2019 Media captionViews at Australia's iconic Three Sisters rock formation are obscured by thick smoke Volunteer firefighters in New South Wales will get compensation for loss of earnings after spending time away from jobs to battle bushfires in the state, Australia's federal government says. The offer of up to A$6,000 ($4,200; £3,200) for privately-employed volunteers follows weeks of wrangling. PM Scott Morrison - who had previously rejected the idea - said it should not lead to permanent pay. More than 100 fires are continuing to burn, with the largest near Sydney. Authorities fear a heatwave forecast to sweep across Australia in the coming days could see the bushfires escalate. Temperatures are set to hit over 40C (104F) in several bushfire-affected states including New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. The sacrifices of Australia's unpaid firefighters Mr Morrison's compensation announcement came after weeks of criticism by opposition parties. "The early and prolonged nature of this fire season has made a call beyond what is typically made on our volunteer firefighters," Mr Morrison said. The BBC's Shaimaa Khalil visited the village of Balmoral which was razed by the fires There are 70,000 people in the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, most of them unpaid. Earlier this month two volunteer firefighters - both young fathers - were killed when a tree fell on their truck as they drove towards a massive fire in the state. The compensation scheme is a joint initiative between the federal government and NSW. The federal government says other states and territories could bring in similar schemes. Volunteers who are employed by small- and medium-sized businesses or are self-employed will be able to apply for up to A$300 per day that they have volunteered if they have spent more than 10 days battling the flames. "While I know RFS volunteers don't seek payment for their service, I don't want to see volunteers or families unable to pay bills, or struggle financially as a result of the selfless contribution they are making," Mr Morrison said. "This is not about paying volunteers. It is about sustaining our volunteer efforts by protecting them from financial loss." A massive shout out to 100s and 100s of volunteers that gave up their Christmas and Boxing Day to cut lines, backburn, mop up and black out. This is extremely important work to try and contain fires ahead of deteriorating weather early next week. Thank you. New South Wales Rural Fire Service commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons had also previously rejected the idea compensation. "Don't do the volunteers a disservice by suggesting that you're going to pay them, because then they're no longer volunteers and that's absolutely the sentiment that I'm getting loud and clear everywhere I go," Mr Fitzsimmons said earlier this week. Meanwhile, in Sydney, more than a quarter of a million people have signed a petition to cancel the New Year's Eve fireworks and spend the money on fighting bushfires instead, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. But Sydney Mayor Clover Moore said earlier this month that the fireworks had been planned for more than a year and could not be cancelled. She said the display would make A$130m for the regional economy. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-50932729 |

I think Scumo has shot himself in the foot by not ensuring ALL firies have the option of being paid in these special circumstances.
Once you bring money into it some of those not being paid this money will be pissed off and cease volunteering. Pensioners and ones who work for larger enterprises that wont cough up come to mind. Pay One Pay Them All is my advice, if they dont want it they can elect to refuse it. Note: I am referring to the ones who wont be paid even if all the states do come in. |

‘It’s not right’: Firefighter compensation debate must address safety concerns
New Daily December 26 The debate over compensation for volunteers firefighters should address safety concerns too, a senior industry figure has said. Volunteers form a majority of the Australian firefighting force but are often required to pay for their own food and transport to battle blazes. :( In many cases they are even required to use up their annual leave to get away from work to protect lives and property. And as the catastrophic fires raging across New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia reach the end of their second month, pressure is mounting for that to change. Petitions have sprung up calling for volunteers to receive more benefits and Paul Keating’s 1994 decision to provide fiscal help to firefighters soon went viral on Twitter. Prime Minister Scott Morrison even relented on the Coalition’s previous assertions that volunteers didn’t need or want additional support and offered those employed by federal government additional annual leave. But Volunteer Fire Fighters Association president Mick Holton said the debate over compensation also needs to factor in safety concerns. Speaking to The New Daily, Mr Holton said many volunteers are anxious their protective equipment isn’t suitable for battling fires this large. :( The P2 dust masks worn by many are of particular concern, Mr Holton said, and some volunteers are asking for better respiratory protection to be provided. Those requests, Mr Holton said, are being too readily dismissed. :( “If an employee was to raise questions about the suitability of their personal protective equipment, we’re obligated to at least discuss it,” Mr Holton said. “If we’re not being open minded and at least responding to some of those requests from our firefighters, I think it’s a bit short-sighted.” Some brigades are even crowdsourcing funds to buy equipment, and it’s “not uncommon” for individual firefighters to spend thousands from their own pockets on new gear over the course of a year, Mr Holton said. :( “It’s not right that we expect them to spend that money on the basic essentials,” he said. “If you were a mechanic and you spent that on some new spanners you’d expect to claim it back on tax – these people aren’t even generating income. “What it boils down to is that if they’re asking questions, then we need to look at it for them.” Try to donate directly Concerned Australians looking to extend a helping hand need to be wary of where their donations are going, Mr Holton said. “Just be careful, there might be some dodgy people out there trying to raise funds. To me, the only safe way if you want to give money to a volunteer group is to go directly to the brigade,” he said. “Take the time to drive down the road and go and see them, that way at least you know the money is getting to where it needs to go. Mr Holton’s comments follow reports of scammers trying to steal bank details from people whose homes were destroyed in Adelaide Hills and nearby regions. But Mr Holton added that it’s “not all about money” and encouraged Australians to “be a friend” to their local firefighters, supporting them however possible. “They need to be looked after, but a little bit of a pat on the back wouldn’t go astray either,” he said. “If you want to do something worthwhile, just thank the firefighters for what they’re doing and maybe give them a cold drink and be a friend to them.” |
