Title: Business Bargaining Changes Would Cost Workers

Business proposed bargaining changes would cost workers billions   :(

Business proposed bargaining changes would cost workers billions

A new report from the Australia Institute’s Centre for Future Work includes modelling which shows that the changes to bargaining rules proposed by business groups would cost workers currently on private sector EBAs $2000 over the first three years and rip billions in wages from the workforce as a whole.

At a time when Australia is in a wages crisis and enterprise bargaining in the private sector is down to just 11 per cent coverage, weakening the rights and protections of working people will make things even worse.

The report highlights that the proposed changes - weakening or removing the Better Off Overall Test, reducing scrutiny of non-union EBAs, narrowing the scope of what can be covered by an agreement, and blocking bargaining on certain projects all together through ‘whole of life’ Greenfields agreements - will mirror the effect of WorkChoices.

The Morrison Government has made it clear that it has a radical agenda to change workplace laws to further entrench the power of corporations over working people. Unlike John Howard’s hated WorkChoices, this time the Morrison Government is drip feeding its plans in an attempt to disguise the extent and impact of the changes.

Quotes attributable to ACTU Secretary Sally McManus:

“Australian workers haven’t had a pay rise in almost seven years. We have a wages crisis and this report shows that the Morrison Government is getting ready to rip billions out of working people’s pockets.

“Slow wage growth has stalled the entire economy. This Government is fixated on trickle-down economics, but that experiment has failed.

“Australians literally can’t afford much more of this Government. By reducing the power of working people and unions and caving to business on changes to the law, the Morrison Government is crushing wage growth.

“The Morrison Government could take a step towards positive wage growth tomorrow by withdrawing its union-bashing bills and supporting union efforts to increase wages across the country.”

Another "Workchoices" policy from these ass holes....Why wasn't this policy highlighted by the Coalition before the last election....The Morrison Government has no mandate for these changes and should take them to the next election where they can be up front with voters and explain their policy!!!

So what....Show me where the Coalition said they would change industrial relations policy before the last election and what those changes entail....When Labor proposes a policy we will discuss that but until then your comment is nothing but deflection from the Coalitions lies and deceit!!!

I agree, they should take these changes to an election to secure a mandate first, even if they call an early election to do so.

The Morrison government has made no such policies. There's nothing that needs an explanation. Make that four pairs of specs.

Where has it been made clear. It's just horseshit made up by the dropkick that wrote the article. The only one that needs to justify anything is the person who wrote it.

I'll condemn them if I don't agree with them but since none have been made there is nothing to condemn except the stupidity of the author. The Institute for Future Work is modelling suggestions from business groups and not some stratified policy agenda from the government for certain parts of the population.

It is part of the outcome from the anti Union bill about to be debated. They did take this to the last election. The Low life scum of Australia didn't care enough to squash it when they should have. The rest of us will pay for it well into the future with lower wage outcomes.

The other changes are at this time only business group lobbying. The same way that workchoices kicked off.

The Old BlackDay is quite keen on that Extremist Commo Socialist Feminazi Sheila at the ACTU - you know the mouse that roared but nobody even noticed she is so insignificant and generally useless. A bit like the old BlackDay - the parrot that squawked!!
