Title: Put An End to Nuisance-Scam-Telemarketing Calls
Post by Tap on May 28th, 2019 at 4:13pm

I used to get 15 to 25 of those nuisance calls every week. Getting on the 'No Call List' didn't even cut them in half. The calls came in at all times while eating, or watching good shows at night, day after day, week after week. Well, when I called to complain to Telstra someone at Telstra told me about this phone system called the Call Guardian, and they said everyone that uses it thinks it's really great.

So they sent me one, and once I set it up and learned how to use it, I haven't gotten any calls in months! I don't even hear a ring when these pricks try to call me. The CG takes care of them all.

I put an end to 99.99% of those PITA unwanted nuisance, scam, and telemarketing Calls.

I can block any callers I never want to hear from again, while letting anyone through to me that I do want to hear from.  Automatically.

All I need is that my telephone service had the caller ID feature, and a $75  phone system from Telstra, which btw comes with 2 cordless handsets, and an answering machine. It's called the Telstra Call Guardian 301 MKII

What about those that block their outgoing caller id?
I gather those still get through?

p.s. ... I can't work out why my reply is coming out in bold type.  :-?

No. All callers that are not in your 'contacts list' (out of area, private, overseas) will be required to announce themselves if they wish to contact you. Unless they do this your phone will not even ring to annoy you, and you wont even know they called. 99.9% of scammers and bogus telemarketers will hang up. If someone announces themselves their call will be put through and your phone will ring. You will hear their announcement, and you will have the choice to answer the call, answer and always allow the caller, or simply permanently (you can remove the block at any time) block the caller.

There is also an option to block non-number callers as a group, like all 'overseas', or all 'private' callers. Again, 99.9% of these type of callers usually just hang up rather than make an announcement, so the call never comes to you, and your phone never rings to annoy you.

Your phone's Contact List is basically your 'white-list'. Anyone on it will get right through to you without being intercepted by the CG, unless you specifically choose to block them. You are totally in control.

The Call Guardian is only for landlines, not mobile. You might try something like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ_F23MPKis

PS. If you are getting nuisance calls on your mobile phone make sure you complain to your mobile phone provider and give them hell if they wont act on your complaint. They can stop them, just like a landline provider can, but most probably neither will because they make money when anyone calls you or you call anyone.

I remember doing that, then the calls came in more and more.

When you answer, and even give them what-for for bothering you, they use that as a verification that the number is active, then they share it with all their Jungle Book friends. In no time you are getting 4 to 5 times more calls.  >:(

The Call Guardian answers like a loyal secretary, and only those callers who announce themselves will get put through, where after hearing the announcement, you then have the option to take the call, answer only this time, or block the caller permanently, which btw you can always undo if you wish. (I sometimes do just to hear what the new scam pitch is, then get them angry, then put them back on block - never to hear from them again no matter how often they call  ;D  8-) ).

That sounds pretty good.  8-)

Does the phone also support 2 satellite receivers or just one? .. I have one that has a base-station and 2 other satellite receivers.

I don't often get calls to be honest.

The other thing I do is not answer numbers I don't know, then google the number and usually that tells me whether it's a telemarketer or scammer. If they persist, I block the number.

The worst one I have had is Greenpeace trying to guilt trip me into donating monthly cause I was stupid enough to do so years ago. Filthy, harassing grubs.

What about the NBN scammers who repeatedly call and ask if you want to keep your NBN service or tell you it will be disconnected ?

Is GetUp! behind this ?
