Title: Avatar 2 Epic Fail
Post by .JaSin. on Apr 16th, 2019 at 1:15am
The expected release of Avatar 2 in 2014 came and went four years ago.
The reason for a No Show is that Cameron has been forced to make two other Sequals. With them to be released in 2021 and 2025.

C'mon! I really can't see this happening at all. In fact, there will be many attempts even in 2030 to try and piece together what film was made by fans and enthusiasts trying to capture something that was lost years ago.

It could be because of War time? It could be because of Cameron's age? It could even be economical where the Budget for the movies is no longer financially affordable be it due to inflation or recession??

It will never happen.
If it does - I will leave this Forum FOREVER!!!

TV seems to be re-running Fury every week..... silly movie in some ways.. special effects OK though.

Tanks roaming the countryside without Infantry support... bit like Rangers walking the skyline and open fields in Saving Private Ryan or Airborne in Band of Brothers back-lit by flames... one MG-42 and it's Hasta La Vista, Babies and send your momma the cheque....

One should never mistake movies for real life, Graps.

Movies are driven by cinematography, things need to be seen so that they can be dramatised.  Troops are forced to walk virtually shoulder to shoulder to "get them in the frame".   Attacks are always full frontal for the greatest effects and of course, casualties.  Troops always talk in loud voices so they can be heard in the cinema.

Perhaps the best war movie I've ever seen was "Odd Angry Shot."   Field signals were used or if they talked in the field, it was in a whisper.  When a soldier is hit, he screams and keeps on screaming in pain.  The diggers were quiet, purposeful and dispersed.  Hijinks a plenty out of the field but deadly serious in the field on Ops.  Admittedly, the unit which was supposedly SASR suffered more casualties in a single attack than the SAS suffered throughout the whole of the commitment to Vietnam.  Of course, they had a professional military adviser on the movie, along with Australian Army support.  I still think the best scene is at the end, when they go back to Sydney and when the barman serves them he asks, "what was it like over there?"  "Oh, just the odd angry shot," is the reply.   8-)

Yes. Odd Angry Shot is a good movie.

Australian Troops are pretty good against Asians.
But against Africans - they're pretty crap.

For 64 years of age, James Cameron is a very fit person. He does not drink. He is conscious about what he eats. And he makes sure that he keeps his mind alert. Cameron could go on making movies into his 80s. But I think he is into his last 10 years on the movie scene. Cameron could very well do a few Avatar sequels before giving up on the directing. Well deserved retirement.

Avatar 1 was an epic fail: there is nothing memorable about the film at all. Not a single quotable line. Not one.

But visually it was amazing.
Maybe you liked it when the soldier said "Cum get sum!" before opening fire?

You are confusing Avatar with "Seal Team 69"

To an extent, I agree. There was not much about the story that stood out compared to Titanic. Visually stunning. It did take you to another world. But there was so much cgi throughout the movie that I could not absorb it all. I find myself having trouble trying to recall the detail, that I have forgotten what was the plot.

Avatar 1's plot was based on the legend of Pocahontas. Cameron kept the plot 'simple', but made the movie 'complex'.

Ridley Scott's success with Alien, was to keep the alien itself - as hidden and mysterious as possible. To be like something caught in the corner of one's eye - for a split second. He made 'mystery' the scariest thing in cinemas.

...sometimes, less is more and Avatar 1 still makes money.

Avatar 2,3,4, etc - are a NO SHOW though.
If you've ever seen the making of The Abyss, you'll see why Cameron won't get there. He takes on too much.

Heard from Cameron in an interview that the Avatar movie was inspired by Pocahontas. To my knowledge, I have never seen the movie, Pocahontas. Looking it up online now.

Cameron is a perfectionist. What people don't appreciate much about the movie was how much effort goes into creating his movie. I had stated that I did not like his movie "True Lies". Although, I figure I am a harsh critic and have understated via implication the amount of effort gone into producing such a feature.

Once the Camerons, the Spielbergs, the Bergs, the Manns, and the Scorseses leave the movie industry, we are really going to miss them. We are starting to see the drivel from directors in recent years sully our cinema screens.

You are right. The great Directors are vanishing.
One of my favourites was John Boorman (Zardoz, excalibur)

Cameron based it on the early colonial American Pocahontus legend, not the movie, btw.

I did like the Cameron Doco "aliens of the deep" - its really good and an insight into his passion.

You cannot expect great cinema from the major studios. That is not their business. Garbage is their bread and butter. And sooner or later, they are going to need to justify their endless glorification of firearms.
