Title: Illegal firearms used in over 97% of gun crime.
Post by Baronvonrort on Mar 29th, 2019 at 8:17pm
Barnaby Joyce and NSW police minister Troy Grant say illegal firearms are used in 97% of all gun crime.

Barnaby also says illegal importation is where criminals get their guns.

Listen to them say it here- https://www.facebook.com/PaulMurrayLIVE/videos/1457208400974791/

New Zealand also had the vast majority of all their gun crime done by criminals who did not have a license.

In NZ they had 15 firearm homicides in 20 years from licensed firearm owners before the recent terrorist attack, what percentage is that from the 250,000 + firearm license holders?

The NSW Police minister said greater than 97% of all gun crime in NSW was done by criminals with unregistered firearms. Since our firearm registry has never solved or prevented a gun crime we can say the only thing it has given us is this statistic.

When tightening of our gun laws are proposed they never target the 97% with illegal firearms they always target those with legal firearms.

Perhaps we should adopt a gun law from the USA like this one or would that be outrageous?

Quote:
Illegal Carrying of Weapons

Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 269 Section 10 makes it illegal to knowingly possess a loaded or unloaded firearm if:

You are not present in your own residence or place of business
You do not have the required firearm license
You possess an illegal weapon, such as a sawed off shotgun or machine gun

If you are found in possession of an unlicensed weapon, carry your weapon outside of your home or place of business without the license to do so, or possess a dangerous weapon, you will be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of 18 months imprisonment. If you are found in possession of a machine gun or sawed off shotgun, you could be sentenced to life imprisonment.

A conviction for possession of a firearm while committing a felony will result in a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment. If the weapon was a “large capacity” one, the minimum sentence you can receive is 10 years imprisonment. These sentences are in addition to whatever sentence you receive on the underlying felony.

Firearms Crimes and Mandatory Minimum Sentencing
As you can see from the offenses detailed above, Massachusetts firearms crimes often have mandatory minimum sentences. Mandatory minimum sentences are just that—the absolute minimum sentence that a judge can lawfully mandate a defendant serves.

When the Shooters Fishers and Farmers party introduced a bill with mandatory jail time for criminals with firearms Labor Liberal and the Greens opposed it.

we are talking about New Zealand, kind of pointless quoting statistics from Massachussetts. The 2nd point is that the vast quantity of illegal firearms or firearms illegally owned start by being legally manufactured and legally owned. whether or not a firearm registry is required is a moot point, less guns equals less gun violence, thats just the fact that you cannnot wiggle or squirm out of. And lets make the point here that gun violence is not just gun crime, it is suicides it is accidental shootings, that is all gun violence.

UK has probably the strictest firearms laws on the planet, yet there is still a budding market in illegal firearms, and criminals will still get them for a price. Now of course they're going to have to restrict knives. I guess we'll go back to eating with our fingers/hands, but wrongdoers will still have access to knives..........and kitchens.

The only answer is a return to stricter penalties (capital punishment in case of murder) for any and all crimes.

And how well has that worked when it's been tried in the past?

It hasn't stopped murder in the US where capital punishment is the norm in some States.

Australia was founded as an alternative to capital punishment in the 18th century.  It was handed out for a whole swag of crimes and how well did it work?  Did the crimes stop?  Nope.  What worked was improving social conditions and took how long?  Over a hundred and fifty years.   Crime in the UK is a lot lower than most people believe...    ::) ::)

Brian, you're an idiot.

Having worked in a position of experience in UK, I know more than you'll ever know about penalties and crime. Crime has sweet FA to do with 'social conditions', it has to do with a natural born criminal mind. I'm not talking about stealing a loaf of bread and being sent to Australia. In case you haven't heard it's the 21st Century.......

::) ::)......oh look I've rolled my eyes as well.....idiot!

Tsk,tsk, tsk........

Do you really, Fuzzball?  Wow, and all those millions, nay, billions of words which contradict you are just bullshit right?

There is no genetic predisposition to crime.  If there was, NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia would be overrun with criminals - afterall, all those states were founded as Penal Colonies, now weren't they?

Run along, Fuzzball, your foolishness is showing yet again.  Tsk, tsk.   ::)

Hang on Bobby, we should only take the word of that smug bastard Bwwwian, after all 'he thinks he knows what he's talking about'.......tsk, tsk....

But just to, once again, keep in mind that UK has the strictest gun laws on the planet.......so obviously the weak penalties over there are NOT doing the job, I know, I've seen it.
