The details of ABC former managing director Michelle Guthrie’s unfair dismissal claim have finally been revealed.

Ms Guthrie will receive an out-of-court settlement worth $730,000 after she stopped her legal action against the national broadcaster.

She was sacked in September last year and chose to take on the ABC for wrongful dismissal in the Federal Court.

There has been backlash to her payout, now a total of $1.64 million, from the union sector and within the ABC.

The secretary of the ABC section of the Community and Public Sector Union Sinddy Ealy said it was outrageous that the board allowed the broadcaster to be exposed to such a huge liability.

“ABC staff are as shocked as anyone else at the size of this payout, knowing it means $730,00 won’t be spent on producing quality ABC content for all Australians,” Ealy said, according to The Guardian.

“It’s absolutely gutting that this payout has been revealed at the same time as we’re told that more ABC jobs may be on the chopping block.”

the airline isnt fully funded by the taxpayers though...they earn their money from other sources....the ABC doesnt have to earn their $2bn.

she was after all just another public servant.paid a huge sum to do WHAT exactly we never find out... ::) ::)

As pensioners, we don't pay tax (aside from a small amount of GST which goes to the states - not the federally funded ABC)

CONSUMER levies - which NONE of us can avoid, go straight to the coffers of private enterprise, to cover "golden handshakes" in the private sector

yes anyone in the ABC that treated this woman badly should be sacked for betraying the publics trust with their money, the court agreed...... ;)

mate I dont know about you   but I paid income tax for many years as did my late husband.....

I pay top dollar for petrol which has more than just GST attached to it...

at least in the pte sector   you dont like what they do with your money  then you get a choice not to give it to them.....

unlike any tax you pay....

Even the French a blowing up their $50 billion from the original estimation for the Subs.

In Australia - the Workers are right, not Consumers.
That's why you gotta be in it to win it and rip that Government off!
Hence why 'everything' costs the Governments 'double', even 'triple' to do anything... like build Irrigation Canals for Floods/Droughts.  ;D

In a nutshell the Liberal appointed board sacked her for not getting along with the government.

So this $1.6m payout is the fault ofg the libs, who couldn't help themselves but try to stymie well deserved criticism of their government from the ABC.
