Title: Mass American Copyright Expiration Post by AiA on Dec 21st, 2018 at 11:59pm
At midnight on New Year’s Eve, all works first published in the United States in 1923 will enter the public domain. It has been 21 years since the last mass expiration of copyright in the U.S.
You may wonder why this even matters. It matters for musicians, creative people of all stripes, and businesses, big and small. Quote:

Matters not for the Chinese, they just take what they want. There should be sanctions against them but too much money is involved so the west's IP will be allowed to be transferred free. The west will surrender. |

China is the biggest hoarder of Copyrights and Patents in the world.
They buy up everything, hold it for the mandatory 4 years 'to use' period and then sell it again. They only 'use' 10% of what they buy... holding onto 'everything' for 4 years so that no competitor can buy and use. They have 'sieged' the Western Economy. They won't beat the USA by Military power, but they have by Economic power. |

Theres nothing wrong with more knowledge in the public domain, a positive thing. When the Library of Alexandria started decaying and disappearing the world lost a lot of knowledge, the more works that are in the public domain the less chance of that happening with our civilisation.

What good is old knowledge?
Most kids these days believe that Medieval Europe was full of Token Black Men, thanks to the American Media that rewrites the history of other nations. |

with the rapid changes we have today why on earth does copyright even mean anything... anymore?..
you buy something today its out of date by the end of the week...nothing lasts forever... you buy a book you take it home you read it....if you want to read it again you dont go out and buy another copy....its the same with music..you replay the same thing... the world is changing very fast...I cant see how copyrights and Patents can keep up to be honest. |

Copyright and patents makes it worthwhile for people to create new things that we use. Without it their would be little incentive for innovation.

No one is arguing against copyrights and patents. Did you read the article? It seems not. Why do you bother to comment? |

All Copyright/Patent Attorneys will tell you (as they told me in the BAS courses I did) - that it is always the DEEPEST POCKET that wins.
A good example was Dyson (vaccuums) and his story: of how the Americans ripped him off as an innovator and stole his idea. But he couldn't 'afford' to do anything about it. So he just plugged along, but it was Britain and Europe Market that made him his fortunes and enough to go back to the USA and pulverise in Court, those who stole from him. THE DEEPEST POCKET ALWAYS WINS. Not who is 'right'. It's the golden rule that all Attorneys advise. Remember all those 50 'engine' innovations that Australia came up with in the 90's to become more 'fuel efficient/environmentally friendly' etc - well they were 'bought' up by China, USA and shoved down the back into the 'non-competative' section, to rot away. If you can't 'produce/manufacture/sell/market' (basically put your innovation out into the world) - then anyone can come and legally buy you out. You have about a year to get into gear: USE IT OR LOSE IT. If you can't - then best keep it a secret until you can or be prepared to sell it to someone who can. |

If you have a secret - don't patent it -
make money out of it in such a way that it can't be copied. BTW - military manufacturers steal patents all the time and as their work is secret no one ever finds out - they get away with it. |
