The headquarters of the NSW Labor Party in Sydney have been raided by the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

It’s understood the Sussex St headquarters were raided on Tuesday morning as part of an ongoing investigation.

It’s understood ICAC officials were looking for records.

A NSW ICAC spokesman said they wouldn’t comment on “operational matters”.

A Labor Party source said the ICAC staff accessed computers when they attended the offices.

The source argued the raid had been timed to coincide with the ALP national conference in Adelaide which is attended by the organisation’s heavyweights.

“It’s clearly intentional,” they said. ;D ;D ;D

Sources have suggested the raids could be linked to political donations to the ALP.

An ALP official said they couldn’t comment for legal reasons.

Federal Labor MP Matt Thistlewaite says he supports the work of ICAC.

“It’s been a great body that’s uncovered corruption, investigated corruption and ultimately led to the prosecution of a number of individuals and the jailing of a number of individuals in NSW,” he said.

Former NSW Labor powerbrokers Eddie Obeid and Ian Macdonald are both in jail on corruption charges after initially being investigated by ICAC.
:) :) :) :)
Mr Thistlewaite on Tuesday said he couldn’t comment on the “ongoing investigation”.

The Sydney-based MP wouldn’t be drawn on on the timing of the raids saying he didn’t want to “second guess” the corruption watchdog.

“They should be given all of the support to do the job that they’re established to do,” he said.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

"An ex-union boss has avoided jail after being found guilty of dumping and burning tonnes of documents that might have been needed at a royal commission.

Key points:

A jury took seven hours to unanimously find Dave Hanna guilty of deliberately destroying documents

The court heard Mr Hanna ordered their destruction the same day the union was contacted by the royal commission

The prosecution told the court CCTV cameras were covered while documents were shifted

Former CFMEU Queensland president Dave Hanna was sentenced to nine months in prison for "recklessly" destroying documents in the lead-up to the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption."

I don't think any fair-minded, non politically aligned person is concerned whether it is Labor or LNP that is caught in the net... all wrongdoers in public office need to be outed and punished for doing wrong.

I'm happy to see all the parasites and vultures publicly condemned and punished for their sins and crimes.

Let's look at 2000 on - the New Millennium ..... though I'm not overly impressed with the names being tossed up as possible sitters on the board of this potential crime commission....... we need someone totally untainted and truly independent ... not just the same old 'give a mate a job'.... that is corruption in itself and does not augur well for the future of any such body.

Fair point- we're gonna have to globalise.... get a bigger boat catchment... put it out to international tender along with our resource extraction and such......

Word for today:-

'sextraction'  (n)...... ripping out the resource, being drawn to one of the OPPOSITE sex... ummm... never mind............
