Title: Religious Instruction in State Schools
Post by The_Barnacle on Nov 3rd, 2018 at 11:51am
Religious instruction classes will be reintroduced into the Victorian state school curriculum if the Coalition wins next month's election.

A government I lead will bring back religious instruction in schools because it's very important," Mr Guy told the crowd at Crossway Baptist Church in Burwood East.

In 2011 the state government changed its policy so that parents could opt in to the classes rather than being obliged to opt out.

Following this change, enrolments fell from 92,808 students in 2013 to 53,361 – a 42 per cent plunge.

In 2015, the Andrews government scrapped special religious instruction from class time, following a vocal campaign from parents who said religious instruction has no place in secular state schools.

The classes were replaced with lessons on respectful relationships, global cultures, ethics and faith education.

Quote:
"A government I lead will always believe that you determine the values by which you raise your children, not the education department," Opposition leader Matthew Guy said.

Huh?

So why then is he planning to re introduce religious instruction into secular government schools then?
Surely it is the parents decision if they want to send their child to a religious school or to provide their own religious education.
The government should not be providing religious education.

Great, a study of religion creates more atheists better than anything.

This may open the door to Islamic and other 'religious' instruction if there is a court challenge to 'Christianity' instruction.

I went to school in Victoria and I can't remember any 'religious' instruction. So, it wasn't always there.

Better than teaching kids that cross dressing, homosexuals and transgenders are normal.
