Childcare, unlike pensions and other social security, is a form of welfare not funded by direct contribution from the taxpayer - it is instead a direct impost on consolidated revenue.... which pensions and unemployment insurance are not......

Childcare is at least an employment provider - but like all such the majority of the funding is absorbed into personal profit for the few owners etc and shareholders.

Another way of shifting billions of taxpayer money into the hands of old mates, cronies and families etc.

If childcare were a state run operation - kind of the Israeli creche thing the feminists used to rave about to 'free' them up etc - instead of a for-profit operation, it would still employ the same numbers, but would be of more benefit to the state.

Meanwhile Fatima and Achmed (no relation) have an eldest son who drives a taxi, and he has a cousin named nearly the same who has a taxi licence... and all collect their Basic Australian Pay by attending Centrelink once a week... or fortnight... or whatever.... while awaiting settlement of their claim for injury in a minor car accident... but that's in the name of another cousin with a very similar name, so won't affect their payments....
