Title: Me and Juries Post by Aussie on Jul 3rd, 2018 at 3:20pm
We have never had a comfortable relationship, and I have seen some bizarre outcomes, some of them went my way, some of them did not. This came to mind after listening to the ABC's Richard Fydler's 'Conversations" today.
Have a read of this: Jury Members actually used an ouija board to determine a verdict of 'guilty.' This is a contentious issue but I have the view that Jury considerations MUST have some sort of objective oversight.....maybe cameras, audio recordings which the Trial Judge and both Prosecution and Defence legal teams can access to see if there was crap going on.....and I reckon that happens often. It is not right that a person's freedom or even continued existence can be determined by 12 lay people who have absolutely no accountability for their conduct in the (currently) secret and highly protected sanctity of a Jury Room. An ouija board fer fux sake! |

Dunno. I have never seen or heard a cogent argument for secrecy. |
